Totally not a dumb question! So important if you ask me! It really depends on your location as far as how fast a collection will sell out, especially the holiday collection. But if you want to make sure they have what you want in stock, you have to go the day of the release. I feel better doing it this way so I get what I want AND if you can go on the release day, which is usually a Thursday, it won't be busy or crowded - weekends are HORRIBLE like that, especially during the holiday season.

On a related note, I found last year that most stuff from these collections were still available at my counter through the holiday, so I waited b/c I knew that on Christmas I'd get some gift cards from family. Sure enough I did, and went to the MAC counter just a day or two after, and all the holiday collections had been removed! I was super sad. So make sure you don't wait til AFTER Christmas to go.
