Has anyone heard anything about this years icon collection?
Well, I know it's coming out in January, but I was curious as to who it actually is.

I heard yesterday from an MA at the store in Richmond, VA that the eyeshadows will be available in pan form for this collection. Yay for not having to depot.

If you want to see a great movie with her in it, rent Indochine.
She's done a lot of great work and she is a classic beauty.

Well it's safe to say I don't think I'll be looking forward to the icon collection this year. :/
I thought they generally picked famous people who people could identify easily.

She's not as well known in the US, but she has international appeal. And even if you don't know who it is, that doesn't necessarily mean you won't like the collection.

I always thought she was well known. Wasn't she a spokesperson for a perfume or something a few years ago? She truly is a classic beauty.

I LOVE Indochine, but the only movie I've seen of her in beside Dancer in the dark so I never thought of her as a legend. I wonder what colours will be in there!!

I said this the first time around, and I'll say it again. I'm glad they picked someone who isn't a US celebrity, and solely that.
Liza and Diana WERE big in their day in the US, but nowadays? Not so much here, let alone the rest of the world. MAC is an international company, yet most of their releases are designed to be marketed towards and appeal to an American and White audience. I wish they would choose someone from India personally.
Also, MAC appeals to a large age range. Just becuase Catherine doesn't appeal/isn't well known to the twenty-something crowd doesn't mean she won't be a great icon. My mother is VERY excited, as am I. Catherine is a great spokesmodel, particularly for the VASTLY overlooked older demographic. MAC has few products and formulas which work with older skin, yet their motto is to be all inclusive.
Honestly, Liza and Diana are questionable at this point as icons. Some of their life decisions have removed them from such titles in my opinion.

Deneuve has been a muse to Yves Saint Laurant and the FACE on French Money.
She is legend in the fashion world as well.

Whoa whoa, off the soap box. I didn't mean like THAT. I just mean someone who's more widely recognized. If they did someone from india? Could you IMAGINE the colors? They'd be delicious. I'd love to see Isabelle Adjani there, but like Catherine she's probably not as widely known.

well with the previous choices (liza and diana) it seems they HAVE been choosing an icon for the older demographic. its not new. thats why i was hoping for once they would choose someone for us young folks. even someone like angelina jolie who is not only beautiful actress but also does SOOOO much around the world. an awesome icon indeed.

That's a good point martygreene re. non-US celebs. I'm quite surprised that some people don't know who Catherine Deneuve is, she's been in heaps of films, though admittedly French. We get a lot of French films to watch here, both on TV and cinema, so perhaps I just take it for granted. Icon material, she definitely IS.

Oooh, I never even THOUGHT about Angelina Jolie, but yeah, I'd like to see that, even maybe Mariah Carey, I'm not a huge fan of her music, but I think they'd be able to create something amazing together.
I don't know if MAC would consider it though because of how much of a huge DIVA she is. When I say Diva I mean demanding thinks highly of herself before others.

while i would LOOOVEEEE to see angelina jolie, madonna, gwen stefani, mary j blige as MAC icons , i don't think they have reached true ICON status yet. to me, an icon is someone like john lennon, marilyn monroe, tina turner, katherine hepburn.. someone who is widely and uncritically admired, a legend if u will. someone who symobolizes an era, or their field.. sure diana, liza and catherine may be older BUT their legacy is what gives them icon status, hence MAC choosing them. i admire MAC for going outside the scope of the hollywood " ideal".

Yep, Diana and Liza were older. Think back over the past few years of MAC ads and models. How many have looked over 25? How many actually WERE over 30? Diana and Liza. The icon collection really is the only collection that has been marketed towards an older demographic at all, and even then they've airbrushed the poor women so much that they look like a computer generated version of what they -might- have looked like when they were younger. I really wish they wouldn't do that, I'd love to see MAC say that it's OK to have older skin, and you can still be beautiful with it. But I suppose that's not en vogue right now.
