Question MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
Hey everyone! I have the satinfinish in NC20 & the MSF in medium. For some reason, everything looks so caked on when i apply it. Maybe i'm not applying the foundation correctly? I use a foundation brush and sometimes a sponge but maybe my technique is off? Do you slather it on or "spackle" or rub it in like lotion? I know that may sound so stupid by the MA at MAC kinda rubbed it in my skin when she tested me for my colour. I also notice that i don't blend so perfectly and soemtimes it looks a little on the orange side! Maybe i use too much?? Then when u put on the MSF it looks more cakey and my skin doesn't look flawless (i have pretty nice skin) it just looks more obvious!!!! So any preferred methods/techniques/tips/tricks.....anything LOL!!!! The first few times i used it, everything looked great but i don't now! Sorry for the long post! Oh and does the stipling or kabuki brush really make a difference? I'm thinking of getting them! Thanks!!!!!

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
I tried Satinfinish at the store and it was just generally horrible. I looked like a greasy, shimmery orange mess and it was just so obvious I had foundation on which is never a good look. I think this foundation just sucks..you'd be better off just using the MSF since you have decent skin.

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
Well, I don't use that much - my sample's given me 8 uses so far, and there's at least 6 more. I apply with my 188 (cuz the 187 won't fit into the sample jar =P), using quite little, maybe enough to make 4 light "dots" with the brush on my cheek/forehead. Then I blend with either the 188 or 187, doing only one section at a time (cheek, other cheek, forehead, nose area). Today I applied my msf with my 182 and loved it, again doing on section at a time. I only swirl the brush once over the msf and buff like crazy. =D

If you find you need more coverage after this... it may be best to try another foundation. It doesn't seem to layer very well. =/

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
i used to use a foundation brush for the satinfinish and then use my stippling (skunk) brush with some lightscapade over my face to give it a glow and i was happy with the results, but then i saw that my face really started to break out and become blotchy (i think i was alergic to the satinfinish) so i stopped using it and went back to my beloved hyper real foundation.

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
I use this with the 187. I start out by dotting it on my face with my fingers, and then lightly buffing it in with the 187. I add Moisturecover concealer to undereyes/spots, blend with concealer brush, and then again with the 187. I find that the Satinfinish needs a moment to "set" before I put powder on. I use Studio Fix, and put some on a kabuki brush (I have the Essence of Beauty one from CVS, this is a NEW version, and is just as soft as the 182, and does not shed one bit! /shameless plug=]), and then really buff it on my skin. I don't use a lot, just enough to take the shine down a wee bit. Then I mist with Fix+ and go over lightly with the 187.

Jeez, that sounds like a lot of work once I write it out. If only the Studio Fix Fluid came pale enough for me. Alas, this stuff matches my skin the best of any foundation I've ever tried.

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
Do you use a primer and moisturizer before applying your foundation?! Start there and then like everyone's been saying, apply the liquid with a 188 or 187, it'll help buff it out. Then take a 182 and apply the MSF Natural. If you still feel cakey, which you shouldn't cuz the MSF Naturals are very light, spray some Fix+ and you should be good.

Re: MAC Satinfinish foundation & natural MSF....tips/tricks?
I second (or third, rather) the moisturizer/primer. I use Oil Control & the green Photofinish.

When applying the foundation, I use only 1-2 pumps for my whole face...apply it w/ a 180 & buff it & put on powder w/ a 182 (but I really want to try putting it on w/ a 109).

I've found that it works best when my skin is a bit dry. I'm going to have to stop wearing it when the weather gets warm, so I don't look like a greasy mess, but I think it's going to be a really nice "winter foundation" for me.
