I love how descriptive you are! Weeping acne.. ripe odor. What perfect words.. and so very very true.

Re: MA's... do you ever dislike a look you have to wear?
I personally love color. I know most of the MA's @ my mac counter that I goto.
They know what I like & if I don't like something I tell them, no I don't like it.
They get to know you & it's all trial & error. But to be nasty @ a MA for no reason is totally uncalled for. It's just not nice.
Remember, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it @ all.
I like the crazy colors & trying on different looks. Ladies, remember it's makeup, if you don't like it, wash it off. It's not permanent.

People tend to forget there's a person behind the fierce make-up and can get really personal about your appearance. Most of the time it's aspirational ("I really love your eyeliner, I wish I could do my make-up like yours!" etc) but sometimes people can be incredibly brutal about your looks. Aaaaaaaaaall the time. I can't tell you how many times I've been described by customers as 'the fat girl with glasses and pink eyeshadow.'
how rude. :/ they are obviously jealous of your amazing hotness.

Re: MA's... do you ever dislike a look you have to wear?
The only time I was ever disappointed with MAC MUA's makeup looks was around the N Collection. I went in super excited to play with the new stuff and all the artists looked normal. I was really bummed. Really bummed. Browns and grays BLAH. I was so confused and trying to figure out why my makeup was more exciting than there's.

Well, it was a natural collection.

Re: MA's... do you ever dislike a look you have to wear?
This post was very informative for me!
I had no idea that MAC MAs have to wear certain looks on the job. I just always saw all the pretty made up faces and was like, "wow, that's somebody that loves makeup". lol
It's fun. It does sometime look a little over the top, but never ever BAD.
Bad makeup, to me, is what a little girl looks like after playing in her mommy's makeup.
How can what a professional makeup artist creates on themselves ever be BAD? No, it's just on another level that some people don't get.

i've had MA's say to me, 'i'm going to do neutrals on you' or ask me 'would i mind color?'. i always say hell yeah-i look good in anything do whatever your heart desires-well with the exception of red lips and noticeable lip liner. i have big lips and those accents make me look like i'm giving bj's in the parking lot. lol!
I think that it is great the MAs ask that question. I know too many WOC, especially Black women that fear color. Gosh, it makes me sad sometimes. What I realize is that people do not understand the art of makeup, which imho, makes it more compelling. I want to see people trying different colors and stepping out of the box.

Re: MA's... do you ever dislike a look you have to wear?
I'm so glad that all of the ladies on here are all really understanding of our situation.
Working at MAC has taught me to come out of my comfort zone when it comes to my makeup. I never really wear bold lips. I never wear eye shadow on my days off unless I'm going out. I'm pretty plain.
I have a lot of woman diss me at work. I wear s.fix fluid with mineralize skinfinish natural on top and a few ladies have been like "I want foundation but I don't want it to be heavy like yours". Well, excuse me. I just tell them in the nicest voice that "to each there own and I happen to like how my makeup looks". You can't win them all.
One time I wore a really dark smokey eye. These girls walking in the mall when I was on my break said outloud so I would hear "omg... is that much eye makeup necessary".
I think a lot of people are just haters.

Gah, that would be annoying, I may stare at the makeup, but it's usually because i'm trying to figure out what colors they used. I think theme days are really neat and fun for both the MA and the customer. If all jobs had that creativity in them i think more people would like to work.

He goes on to explain that a few days previously, a bunch of girls came in "that looked exactly like the girl on that bag" and he couldn't figure out where they came from. It made me laugh =)
 How funny!!!

Re: MA's... do you ever dislike a look you have to wear?
Every day is a staring contest at the counter, not just special theme days or looks for new collections. haha
Although we get some haughty looks, I find our theme days or event days always bring in more people and business.
And I never hate wearing a look. Ever. No matter what look I'm wearing, I always make it my style. That's what MAC is all about.
