Exclamation Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
http://cosmeticdatabase.com/wordsear...y=mac&&start=0

Legit?

Dear God.

Thank God I don't use any of the skin products! I was really debating whether to try them out. I know people who have used them and they all complained one way or the other. So it makes me iffy and I have acne prone skin. Hmmmm...

well, if you look hard enough, everything kills you because to keep ourselves alive, every part of our body is slowly wearing itself out. but i'm not gonna stop living to live "better". that being said, mac can do sooo much better with their foundation and skin care products

the skin/face products seem like they all have atleast 1 thing that is labeled as a skin irritant in low doses, ive never talked to any1 who loves them, so i never even bothered trying any.

Re: Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
Yeah but then you search other products and it doesn't seem so bad really...L'oreal's hair dye is in the 9's, Chanel has a couple of 9's in their skin care, some stuff from Revlon is in the 10s! Most cosmetics are on a 2-8 range, there isn't any really "safe" product out there - even Johnson's Baby lotion scored a 7.

I will still plod on with my make up, if brain damage or skin cancer doesn't get me something else will. Feels like everything we do, use or eat is slowly killing us anyway, might as well be a product that makes us happy.

Re: Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
Yeah.... ingredients in many cosmetics and skincare can be pretty frightening. I'll never use MAC skincare or foundation because of all the junk they use in their formulations. There are much, much better products for skincare and plenty of great companies who create wonderful mineral makeup.

I don't mind using MAC MSF, blush, eyeshadows and lipglasses because I have a layer of beneficial makeup making direct contact with the skin barrier. That prevents me from worrying too much about the crap leaching into my epidermal layer.

Re: Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
Why doesn't it say which of the ingredients are the harmful ones in each product? I know things such as parabens are often targeted as bad ingredients, but they are preservatives and necessary in small amounts so our products don't go bad! I would be more trusting of this if I could tell which were the bad ingredients...unless I just don't see it?

I bet a lot of those ingredients are harmful only when ingested at high quantity. So unless you're eating your makeup, I think we're all safe. The best way to know is to get the MSDS sheet for each of those ingredients.

I remember watching an investigation on the local news on MAKEUP COUNTER TESTERS. OMG I felt sick. No joke. One of them happened to me MAC. They took samples from these and tested them out and there were microbes and what not in them, and some of them were harmful! From then on, I never used a tester. lol

Re: Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
I looked up La Roche Posay for comparison and the two products I've used (Hydrophase face moisture) rate higher than most of MAC's skincare... so maybe I should switch? =P Naw, I think we're fine, b/c I'm sure if there was some rating system for the foods we have out there we'd find out we're eating cancer everyday.

I agree with clotheswhore that it's harmful in large doses, just like coffee's bad for you taken 5 cups a day (my dad used to do more!) or even having too much of a vitamin or mineral. All in moderation, as we always hear. =)

Re: Whats in our MAC? *Frightening*
The majority of MAC fall in between 3-6 moderate hazard. If you look at the list of mineral make-up like BE you will see that it is listed in the moderate hazard category also. Unless what you apply to your face is TOTALLY ORGANIC and PURE there will always be hazards etc. so unless you want to go that route don't sweat it TOO much. I would be more worried about the preservative's and pesticides that we digest through food and drink. NOT TO MENTION THE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS pushed on to us by the pharmaceutical companies and medical system (but thats a whole 'nother thread lol)

That being said I am careful as to what I put on my sons body. I also love weleda skincare which scored between 0-3 low hazard.

When you go for makeovers, they use those testers on you.
Powder products cannot harbor much bacteria, so powder eyeshadows and blushes are fine.
Also, anything that has to be poured out is ok, coz no one is putting their fingers into the bottles.
But when going for makeovers, I would say not to use cream blush, studio tech foundation, studio finish concealer, basically anything that's a cream product in a pan where anyone's fingers could have been.

I agree. They do use testers but with sanitized brushes. They never use their fingers. And they put their products on a lil palette rather than dipping it straight into the pot or product itself. I rather have it that way than any other way. And I never let them use any skincare or foundation products on me when I am there. I just say "pass"
