Foundations without titanium dioxide
Does anyone know any resources I can use to look up ingredients in cosmetics? More specifically, I want to see if the foundations I'm interested in have titanium dioxide, since I look horribly white in photos. Holiday season (read: lots of picture taking) is coming up.

Alternatively, if someone can give me the names of some great foundations without TD or zinc, I would appreciate it. TIA

Seeing as titanium dioxide is usually used in sun protection products, I'd try to avoid foundations with SPF protection (when indoor-bound only!). I can't think of any brands/products off the top of my head, sorry.

It's not as simple as looking for foundations with or without Titanium Dioxide. Every single M·A·C foundation either lists Titanium Dioxide explicitly as an ingredient or carries the note "may contain Titanium Dioxide" which depends on the shade. Titanium Dioxide has uses both as a sunblock and a colouring pigment which makes it an attractive ingredient for cosmetics manufacturers.

While Studio Fix can sometimes "white out" with a flash, Full Coverage and Face & Body don't even though they both contain Titanium Dioxide too.

Titanium Dioxide irritates my skin terribly, so I have to hunt for products that dont contain it. If TD is listed way down on the ingredients list as +/-, my skin doesnt react, so that product really doesnt contain much TD. I use MAC Select SPF 15, MAC Studio Finish Matte, and NARS Balanced foundations, Prescriptives concealers, and MAC or Chantecaille loose powders.

Not that this is a huge help but if you look at Sephora many foundations have their ingredients listed.

smashbox's studio seamless foundation has very very little TD I assume. I wrote them an email asking for its ingredients and it was nowhere to be found, but it had a "may contain titanium dioxide." Also, a lot of cheapy makeup brands (like Wet N Wild, NYC, etc) don't contain any TD, but I don't know if you would feel comfortable using those. I recently picked up a Wet N Wild stick foundation that has no TD, and took pics and there was no "floating white face" effect lol!
Also, even if a foundation has no TD, if it has any light reflecting properties it will white you out as well (as far as my experience goes). Anything with "radience" "light diffusing" I try and avoid.
It'll be a tough one looking for a foundation without TD though. I did a google search and came up with nothing grrr...but as that saying goes, seek and ye shall find! Good luck, and if you happen to find any, let us know!!!

Following on from some research I've done in relation to reported allergies on another thread (allergy to MAC products?) I've found a website that lists ingredients for a huge range of cosmetics products (currently 14,229 in total).

Putting my scientific hat on for just a moment I have to say that the following disclaimer applies;

The website can be found at Skin Deep

Caffn8me, that's a great link you provided! I hear as long as Titanium Dioxide is not a main ingrediant * not at the very top of the list,etc.* it won't cause much of a problem with having a white face in flash.

I just found a mineral foundation without titanium dioxide. I've never used anything from this line, but here's the link: http://www.twistedfayte.com/foundations.asp
Apparently they also have "pigments" for eyes, and at not a bad price. I've seen some girls wearing these pigments on FOTDs on MUA, they look really pretty. I really want to try the foundation, seeing as its the only mineral foundation i've come across with no TD, and at 8 dollars! HTH!

holy crap, I just figured out that the foundation comes in jars of 5 or ten grams, which is like, 1-2 TEASPOONS. If I got my conversions right, then that seems like a lot of money for TEASPOONS lol!
