Stila: Spring 2005 Collection- general review
I'm an avid Stila lover, and so I decided to post my review of Stila's spring collection. As a whole, I'm a fan. After winter, I'm really ready for a fresh, not-to-much makeup look. Here's my review of the hits and misses:
Bamboo Blossom palette: Great palette! The blush in this has been a surprise hit. In the pan it looks like a scary orange but goes on a very nice peachy-pink... good texture and really sheers out. The eyes are pretty neutral: a shimmery champagne, a not-too-orangey light peachy coral, and a brown that is not so dark that it is limited to strictly liner use. Also, I like the compact that the spring palettes come in--sturdier and prettier than either the holiday palettes or the fierce femme palettes.
Lotus Bloom palette: My favorite palette, since I finally found some pinks that I'm happy with that don't make me look too "red-eyed". The blush is almost a dead ringer for Stila's Cozy. As for the eyeshadows, there is a similar pink (I think it may be Orchid, but I'm not sure) in the pro line. This pink is great--goes on sheerly but is buildable. The lightest shade is a pretty nondescript color... just a pinky beige that isn't too exciting. I really like the darkest shade though--a darker version of Grace that's can be used in the crease or wet as a liner.
Mystic Bloom palette: I didn't buy this one, since I'm overflowing with purples. However, it is a pretty palette. The blush looks similar to that in Lotus Bloom, though, and if you already have the Pussycat Dolls palette these colors are VERY similar. Comes with a shimmer white, a blue-based purple, and a charcoal liner.
Lychee lipglaze: I heard raves about this and picked it up and am so disappointed. Despite the color in the tube, this goes on very sheerly and light, almost like Grapefruit. It's great if that's what you're looking for, but the color in the tube is very deceptive. Also, I'm not totally sure I like the smell.
Mango: a pretty, slightly irridescent pink. As with Lychee, if you have other lipglazes this is not a must-have since it's not terribly unique, but if you don't have a lot it's a good one to start out with. Does look nice over Devon lipstick.
Lemongrass: my fave of the three lipglazes. Similar to Apricot, but shimmery and not as brightly peachy--more nude. Looks very nice over the Kira lipstick for a nude lip. More unique than the others when compared to the rest of Stila's line.
Devon lipstick: a very sheer light pink. The spring lipsticks feel great compared to some of Stila's past lipsticks, though pigment is somewhat lacking. They feel almost like a moisturizing lip balm though. I like this color well enough, but I'm not much of a lipstick girl. If I already had a light frosty pink, I wouldn't need this one.
Kira lipstick: sheer frosty peachy-nude. Actually was somewhat similar to MAC's Petal Lure when I compared them, though Petal Lure is more opaque and slightly more pink. Kira goes on more of a true nude and isn't quite as bright on my mouth. I actually liked it more because of the more subtle look. Does look great with Lemongrass over it.
Maia lipstick: this is a sheer lavendarish color (I think probably along the lines of Madame B). Since I already have Madame B and really don't need too many purples, I passed on this one.
Hope this helps someone!
