YouTube make-up gals.
This has been on my mind all day...
I never thought that on all places I would find such amazing make-up divas like the ones on youtube. Granted, I have seen a few that should practice their techniques off-camera, but the majority I have seen are really, really good.
I am a budding, self-taught, soon-to-be attending make-up school fantatic, I must say, I have come a long way from drawing my brows on too strong (gasp! with black eyeliner!), or nearly losing my eyesight from lack of knowledge on how to use a lash curler. I know I have a long way to go, but I am ready for the long haul, no pun intended.
My point...er...question is if anyone from here ever feels intimidated by the any of the well-known, really damn good make-up gals from youtube? like panacea81, ApropoMakeup, monroemisfitmakeup?
I ask that not in a bad way, but in a way that knowing how good they are and how talented, it kinda knocks me back down to earth from thinking I possess some serious skills when comes to cosmetics. I know it's no competition, but yes, there will always be someone better at what you want to do.
So, I ask, does anyone feel the way I do? or should I take a chill pill and go about my daily life?..kidding..LOL.
*to any artists from youtube reading this, please don't be offended.*

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I agree with you and know what you mean. When I watch YouTube vids from some girls that are extremely talented, I always feel jealous, but in a good way and very inspired by them.
I wonder though if these same people who post awesome looks & have mad skills, often feel like we do?

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I post video on youtube, and I'm not nearly as good as Panacea and such, but I don't let it intimidate me. It's weird though, when you use the same tools and products and techniques how a look can come out totally different when two different people do it.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
i like watching youtube make-up videos, it doesnt make me anyhow intimidated, it gives me an inspiration, i learn new tips, i have fun. I think you shouldnt let anything like that make you feel down, cause see, then it gonna drive you crazy.. What about Victoria's Secret models, now thats what may possibly make me feel down!
And this make-up girls are real, i learn from them. I just dont have much time to watch youtube, and i dont watch all of them, just a little here and there. My favorits are fafinettex3 & ToMISs23.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I ran across the best girl ever ... makeupgeek... She has really helped me so much. She posts hers in a way that allows me to understand whats going on. She is so helpful. I don't think she posts to "rub it in your face" but to help . She has skills and wants to share the love .... She seems really down to earth and helpful... I'm so thankful that she posts .

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
It doesn't make me intimidated, it inspires me. I was watching YT videos for a while before I started my own channel, but I just wanted to spread the love (aka addiction, lol!) and to help people. If I see a YT video I like, it inspires me to try it out myself.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I totally understand what you mean! I wanted to start posting makeup videos on YouTube, and did, but took them down. I want to practice off camera first, so that instead of being a hassle to watch, my videos are helpful. Most of these women (and men!) post videos to be helpful to other viewers, as I'm sure they found YouTube gurus to be before they started posting videos. There is so much about makeup and application to learn, so I appreciate all of these people and the time they take to help viewers. I understand being intimidated - I am intimidated when I enter the FOTD forum here sometimes! But I always learn something, and appreciate someone's skills and work. It is awesome.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
no, not intimidated.. I wanted to post tutorials too.. really, think of them as tutors and friends instead of competitors..

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
They have never once intimidated me because they seem like such down-to-earth, real people. I feel like a friend is teaching me how to do my makeup. It's honestly a joy to view videos from my subscriptions everyday.
I think that, if it weren't for the YouTube gurus, I would have never gotten into makeup like I have now. They all inspired me to create my own looks, taught me some great techniques that I could have never learned from a magazine.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I used to do a lot of videos on there, but my camera started to play up a lot, and I got kind of sick of the constant nasty emails from certain characters on there, so I gave up. I really love Leesha on you tube, (Xsparkage) she’s very good! But sometimes her looks are a bit too bright for me!
There are also a lot of good hair tutorials which I am currently in to!

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
i absolutely love the youtube gals! i can sit and watch them all day, and sometimes i do hehehe...not only do they help me with different techniques, but also creativity with colors since i am so far from being artsy in anything hahaha...and i especially love most of the girls on there because they seem so friendly and down to earth...and i get so irritated when people leave them really mean and cruel comments, ugh!

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I was planning on also creating a Makeup-themed Youtube Channel but decided not to, mainly because I don't feel like I would have anything new to contribute.
The people you listed along with several other Youtubers have shared pretty much all there is to know about makeup, so I wouldn't have anything new to add except my lame jokes and stupid rap songs about MAC. :P
But don't not make videos because you're intimidated because there really isn't anything to be intimidated about. It can be a lot of fun and expose you to a lot of new things.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I think everyone on you-tube is not a teacher but a room filled with students. And coming to the chalk board helps them learn.

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
Pancea is extremely popular, she even had a 10 minute clip.. televised air time on her local news . You can watch it on youtube, shes just a shy 26 year old single mother, who never went to beauty school or had any makeup training beforehand. And now shes got a million views on some of her tutorials!

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
To the O/P I understand, and I am that way with FOTDs cos some, actually most women here are very beautiful and their photos are sharp. I am daft with photos and I'm really working on it, but it's hurting my esteem In terms of youtube, I appreciate most for offering to help. Some I may not be keen on but they may have a technique or something I haven't tried. I would love to have something to offer but for now I am learing loads

Re: YouTube make-up gals.
I'm not a good MA by any means, but I looooooove watching the best of the best on YouTube. To me it's not intimidating at all, rather, inspiring and creative juice!
When I was serious about being a MA, I was on YouTube every night after my daughter went to bed. I've learned so much! From application, to product recommendations, to tips and tricks, and DIY stuff, goodness!
The internet isn't called "the information highway" for nothin'!

You took the words right out of my mouth!
I think that every makeup guru on youtube is different and has a different style for the most part, so I don't like to compare myself to anyone. I just started doing videos (like MissChievous said) to help people and to share some tips and ideas with others. It's definitely a great place to share ideas and to get inspiration!
