Argan Oil

I'm new here, so I didn't know where to post this information, and I really wanted to share with you what I learned about the cosmetics industry.

Everybody is talking about the Moroccan argan oil and it's benefits. It's true, this oil can do wonders to your hair and skin. But there's a lot more behind it.
Last week I saw a documentary on how it was made, where the well known cosmetics brands go buy it and who makes the oil.

First I will tell you about the fake one. There are many sellers, especially in Morocco who sells fake argan oil. The seller said it was pure argan oil and all that, well they took the oil to a lab and saw that it was sunflower oil which is so much cheaper than the argan.
The reporters said that there are many fake argan oil out there, and people are spending so much money on a fake thing. A woman bough 600 euros of fake products.
Then they showed the women who worked on the argan too. These women were working hard and they only earned 5 euros a day! Offcourse all the people behind it, lied and said they were earning much more, which was a lie.
On top of it, the sellers would sell the argan for thousands of euros, then the buyer procceded the argan into an oil and sell to cosmetics brands for millions! I was overwhelmed.

AND THEN,the reporters went to a drugstore and bought some prodcust that claimed to have argan oil... They bought Shampoos from L'oreal, Schwarzkopf, Garnier etc and tested on a lab... Only to find out these products only have 2% or less argan oil in it. Which does nothing for our skin and hair. And you can imagine how much these companies earn with spending so many little oil on products that sell very well.

I was really shocked, and this made me think about how much we are beeing ripped off by these brands...

I hope this isn't confussing. I tried my best to explain, because I really wanted to share with you all this information (:

I've best way to use argan is to buy food grade oil, imo.

They didn't, unfortunately! I thought they would, but then it ended with them saying the trees where they get the argan are close to being extinct.
But from what I understood, the major brands buy real argan oil but they put very little of it on their products, and the independent stores or the stores there in Morocco are selling fake argan oil. This made me think maybe the brands which are less known and buy argan oil independently are buying a fake product, maybe without knowing.

I'm sorry, I wish I could tell you where to find it, but they didn't mention it. I'll just don't buy it anymore

Unfortunately, a lot of buyers sell fake argan oil in Moroccan Souks. I bought one litter a few years ago for 120 dirhams (+/-12 euros) and the smell wasn't the same at all ! The color was darker.
The seller swore to God it was true argan with no mix at all. He swore to God! Can you believe the nerve? He was not supposed to sell a mix after he swore lol

I got a bottle once from someone who knew someone who made it only for personal use. And it was for free so I knew it was genuine. The real argan oil. You could tell just by the color and smell it was true argan oil.
I don't even buy it anymore cuz I don't know where I can find it and the price is so high I don't wanna pay that much for something that's not the real thing.

Those corporations in Morocco are ripping off customers AND workers. As usual.
I don't trust argan oil you can buy in Europe. They sell you beautiful bottles but you don't know what's in it really.

The reporters went undercover to a store and the guy swore too ahaha he was like "More pure than this you can't find, this is the real thing" and then that oil was sunflower :s it's crazy, I just don't buy it.

That makes me really sad. Corporations need to take some responsibility for the environment...Enough is enough

Awh.. I was just about to buy some to test it out... But now I'm a bit weary =/ What if I get a fake one =(
