Re: List of companies that test on animals!!!
That really is pretty much everybody, isn't it? I'm very conflicted when it comes to animal testing. I used to be 100% against it, but then the medical aspect comes into it so that's also something to think about. However I understand there is a difference between testing on animals for a cancer cure vs. new waterproof mascara technology.

What saddens me is it's virtually impossible to not use a product which has INGREDIENTS that were once tested on animals. For example, you can buy a product from a company that states they don't test on animals, but that usually refers to the final product. And if not the final product, at some point in time, the individual ingredients were tested on animals whether by the same company, or whoever supplies their ingredients. So it's a very gray area IMO.

I don't speak about 100% organic stuff though, depending what the ingredients are. Though even some natural substances can still cause irritation and some of them have been tested on animals for human safety. Also, you do sacrifice a lot in quality if you choose to only use those products because most of the time they are still inferior to synthetic chemical ingredients.

So, even if you buy something from a company who says it was not tested on animals, some time ago it or ingredients were.

Of course you can still avoid putting money in the pockets of companies who do the testing...like Proctor & Gamble. But they usually open the gateway for other companies to use materials THEY tested and found safe, into their own products and state they don't test...

I apologize if this was a little jumbled, like I said this is a very gray area for me and I am constantly conflicted about it. I do wish animal testing would stop for cosmetic purposes, because I think technology in that area is already in a great position. I don't think we *need* to continue advancing when it comes to cosmetics...what is available for the most part, is amazing. I could live without any cosmetic advances for quite some time.

Re: List of companies that test on animals!!!
I am fairly new to MAC and I nearly had tears of happiness in my eyes when I found out they don't test on animals!
I used to be a boycotter of animal testing companies when i was in highschool but i later realized that silently depriving myself of some products is not gonna make these companies stop...

Instead of not buying products from these companies and being like "I do my part let others do theirs" it's more effective to sign petitions, protesting, and spreading the word around so more people join the cause.

That's my 2 cents.

I'm sure the woman from PETA had her reasons for feeling the way she does about pet ownership, but if pets are like "slaves," why have I always had cats practically beating down my door, wanting to become my "slaves"?
Maybe it's because word has gotten around that my "slaves" have high-quality [often cooked to order] meals served 24/7, sleep on my furniture, get free, gentle and thorough health care, and eat off my plate if they feel so inclined. They also do no "labor," unless you count licking themselves.
Back to the subject: I make it a personal principle to not buy from known animal-testing companies, simply because I don't want to give them any of my money.
It's been very hard at times not to try one of Lancome's mascaras; I hear they're terrific.
Oh, well; I love UD's Skyscraper, fortunately ...

Re: List of companies that test on animals!!!
I am glad to know that MAC does not test on animals....
But then again, some of the ingredients are probably still not safe for us to use (like talc.)

Still, VERY happy. I am very very into cruelty free products. When it comes to makeup especially. There's just no need to use products tested on animals when other companies have done a good job without doing so. Though I wish a lot of companies who do not test would put it on their website. I hate not knowing. I need to find as many options as possible.

It's probably not always a sure thing when a company is cruelty free, but that's where research comes in. I think some people have now become cruelty free but I'm iffy on some of them (like The Body Shop).

I will not buy any makeup from a line that tests. I've always been an animal lover and I am a cat owner and I hate to think of them suffering for OUR beauty. If we take care of our skin and really do a good job with researching products, we might need a lot of makeup anyway.

But that's my two cents. ^^;

EDIT

I wanted to add that I find trying to find good companies that truely are cruelty free to be very hard. I was happy to find out Revlon was cruelty free until I read this thread...so now I'm not sure what to think (even about MAC). Dx
