eyeliner suggestion
ok so, I love Ziba, it's a beauty place, and that's where I get my eyebrows threaded when Im in Los ANgeles.
But anywho, this guy there named Oscar does makeup for their magazines nad does wedding makeup etc etc. I absolutely LOVE his makeup, his work can be found at the link below...
http://www.zibabeauty.com
I was looking and I was trying to figure out what kind of eyeliner it is he uses. It's so vivid and so black and POPS out at you, it even shows up well on the Black girl in his portfolio.
Do you guys know what kind of eyeliner this is? IT reminds me of the arabic makeup that I see or the makeup that I see in many Bollywood films, very dark perfect eyeliner. I know you can't know the specific brand etc, but perhaps it's kohl...Or maybe it's a certain technique. Or even maybe I just suck at eyeliner lol. I usually use liquid eyeliner on top , and if you looka t my last fotd, it actually shows up shiny even after it dries. And the more I apply it to make it darker , it just looks bad lol. Am I crazy or what?

Re: eyeliner suggestion
Looks like maybe he's using a black Kohl pencil. MAC's smoulder eye pencil would be a good one to try. It always shows up really, really well on my skin. I find that kohl is the best thing to use if you want to achieve middle-eastern or Indian style makeup. Usually I will apply the kohl first and then use fluidline to do a perfect curve at the corners of my eyes since it's kind of hard to do with a kohl pencil. A little goes a long way too so you don't need to use much. I apply a thin line close to my lashes, then use a smudging brush to soften, thicken and even out the line. The Body Shop sells an awesome one!

I find it also makes the line stand out more if you start with a wash of pigment or shadow like Vanilla or Courage.

You can go to an Indian or Arab supermarket and ask for Kajal or Kohal in stick or powder form. Some show up almost a charcoal gray colour and some are an intense blue black. Definately worth a try!

Re: eyeliner suggestion
According to an article I have read, Kohl, Kajal products contain too much lead and are very dangerous to your health.

Re: eyeliner suggestion
I agree with Spectrolite.
I think that it's kohl also.
I've even tried Blacktrack lately and it's fabulous.
I have a small lid and sometimes when I use pencil, it's takes up a huge portion of my eye.
I use the flat liner brush with the fluid line and it works beautifully.

Re: eyeliner suggestion
Yeah, it looks like Kohl. I really like the liquid last liners because they stay put, but another MAC alternative could be fluid lines since they're gel and can smudge to give more of a kohl like look.
The one that I use though is something from Gurelaine (I think that's how it's spelled). They're a higher end brand but the product that they offer is more like Kohl than what I've seen at MAC (since it's actually a loose powder). It is very expensive though. I think someone mentioned that in an upcoming collection in September, Smoke Signals, MAC might come out with some kohls.

On a side note, I don't think you have to worry about the lead content in most Canadian, US, or European companies. I think they have regulations for that, but I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, the only real kohl I ever owned was made in Pakistan. I don't think any US or Canadian companies make real kohl. Just pencils that they call kohl.

Re: eyeliner suggestion
From the looks of it, he might have used kajol from an indian/pakistani store. Umm...from what I've been told its dangerous if you put it in your inner eyelids. I've tried the kind that comes in the little tubes, and it was hard to use. Try the one that comes in the stick form, but be forewarned it bleeds easily.

Re: eyeliner suggestion
Kohl pencil, at least in the US cosmetic industry standards, looks really great, but it doesn't last unless its set somehow, either with a sealant or a good powder shadow. Kohl is designed to be smudged, so it doesn't stay put, it's very malleable. I can attest that the Sephora Keep Kohl waterproof kohl pencils (i call them kohl-ish, cuz real kohl is rarely waterproof) are really good; they're super smooth, very very rich in color and they stay put. And they're only $8.
