Migrating mascara frustration! Help!

I was hoping someone could give me some tips on how to keep my mascara on my lashes. Within an hour of putting on my mascara I always end up with that racoon look. I am using Clinique mascara so it is not cheap mascara. I have even thought it was because I was getting moisturizer on my lashes before hand so I have tried keeping my moisturizer away from my eyes (which concerns me because my under eye area gets dry) and that helps but I still end up having to check a mirror constantly all day to wipe away black smears. I have tried water proof which does help a bit but I was told water proof mascara is very hard on your lashes. Any suggestions or opinions would be much apprecieated. Thanks!

If you're concerned with the moisturizer under your eyes, maybe make sure to dust a layer of powder around the "raccoon" area so it'll make it less oily around there.

I have EXTREMELY oily lids, and every. single. mascara. smudges on me. Except for SANA Extra Large Mascara (it's a Japanese brand, I don't know how available it is in Canada). I have to buy it in Hong Kong. It never, ever, ever smudges on me, unless I use a very old tube of it. Generally though, most Japanese eye products are verrrrry smudgeproof.

You spoke of Clinique mascara...have you tried the new Lash Power ones? There's a regular Lash Power and now a curling formula. It forms "tubes" around your lashes and can be removed only with warm water. Perhaps that would work for you.

But I mean, if you don't want a waterproof mascara, and yet you don't want your mascara to run...I don't know what to tell you. Maybe use a lash primer underneath that conditions your lashes and makes the waterproof mascara less harsh on them?

I have oily lids in the summer and it's best to go for a waterproof formula. Though, I hate waterproof, so the best I've found was Lacome. Any of their mascaras is pretty water resistant. Hypnose is my fave mascara ever. HTH!

Sometimes I find it's really just the mascara.
No Clinique mascara isn't cheap, but that doesn't mean it won't leave you with smudges.
For me, finding one that doesn't smudge is trial and error.
It's the worst when you find a mascara that makes your lashes look great, but smudges. For those cases, I've applied powder right under the lower lashlines. It helps, but it doesn't keep it from doing it entirely.
For me, smudging is kind of a deal breaker.

I had the same exact problem. I totally understand your frustration.

I tried every mascara out there in the market whether it was advertised as waterproof, smudge-proof technology, whatever.
Nothing worked for me until I found Imju Fiberwig Mascara.

I know people out there have heard mixed reviews about this mascara, but if you seriously master the application (which isn't any different than applying any other mascara, really) it's the best mascara ever. I do admit that it does not register the whole broadway-style dramatic showgirl lashes but it makes my lashes looking long and pretty and most importantly, it keeps my lashes smudge/migration-proof!

^ I wish Fiberwig would work on me, but it INSTANTLY kills my curl. It's almost immediate. The only way it doesn't do anything is if I put the slightest coat of mascara on, which doesn't really do much. This mascara pretty much made me a believer of BAD mascaras. Staying power is great though.

Same here. The mascara can be the MOST AMAZING MASCARA in the entire universe, but if it smudges on me, I will never, ever use it. It's really a shame.

It's working great for me. I will never go back to any mascara again.

As for the losing the curl factor, I can see why people have problems there. I am not sure, maybe I'm an odd ball but I just curl my lashes before I apply the mascara and the curl stays fine. I've heard people who actually curl their lashes after the application of mascara but....eek, I'd be afraid of my lashes falling out onto the curler.

But anyway, back to each and our own search for the best mascara. =)
