Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
Hey ladies!! I'm having some issues with my skin. I just turned 29 a few months ago and for several months now I've noticed (of course!) that my skin is a little different. I used to the combo/oily T zone girl, but now I feel like it's alot more dry than it used to be. Yeah, yeah, I know age is def a factor, but it's mostly dry, flaky spots around my mouth and the lower part of my cheeks and also around the eyes. I try to moisturize right out of the bath or shower when my skin is still damp b/c if I wait too long, my face starts to feel dry and tight almost immediately and then the lotion doesn't want to absorb.
I had problems with acne when I was in high school but once I hit 18 and started taking BC my skin thankfully cleared up. I do have really sensitive skin b/c everytime I try any new cleanser or moisturizer, my face gets red and itchy with little red bumps. I've been using Basis soap and Purpose facial lotion since high school!! I've sometimes wondered if my skin is just sick of these prodcucts, but I still have the problem of not being able to use anything different. I've tried Clinique, Aveeno, Cetaphil, etc. and have the same issues. Does anyone else have this problem or have you noticed more dry skin as you got older? How do you deal with it?

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
I will turn 29 next month and i have the same problems just like you.I thought to use Clinique but saw that have alcohol so i passed.I got Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15-Lotion Hydratante from MAC but to tell you the truth made my skin with more patches/and this was recommended by MA/.Then i went and talk with other MA she said to get the Studio Moisture Cream Creme Hydratante. This cream so far works really good for me-no more dry patches.I guess you just have to try few stuff.Since your skin is so sensitive mine is too but not that much -you can just go and ask for sample from some products and to see how you feels on your skin. Also as far as i know it's not very good to use soup on your dry skin try cleanser - i got the other day Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser/fragrance-free/.My skin feels really great and soft-usually this is not the case with soups-feels more dryish. This is just my opinion .

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
WOW, it must be something about 29. I will be 29 in 3 months and I too have noticed a change in my skin as of late. I have always had really sensitive skin on the dryish side. But I have always had really clear skin so much so that I would always receive compliments on it. Lately I have been having a few break outs and also have noticed patches of dry skin, especially my eyebrows (weird, huh).
I have been using the Aveeno products for sensitive skin for a while now. I guess I need to moisturize more? I have no idea. So strange that we are all the same age and having strange skin issues.
I wish I could be of some help here, but I can totally sympathize with you.

I've thought about using cleanser instead of soap. I always thought the Basis soap was non-drying and all that b/c it's a gentle soap, but I guess soap is still soap. I work part time at Bath and Body Works and a few years ago when the CO Bigelow collection came out, we got free samples of the skin care to try out. I got the cleanser and moisturizer for normal/oily skin (that's when mine was more oily) and for the first 2 weeks I loved it! My skin was softer and felt better but about the 3rd week I started breaking out. Maybe it was the moisturizer. I've also wondered if I just need to find a good, gentle cleanser and stick it out to see if the breaking out/itchiness goes away.

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
I have super dry skin whenever I go to Europe/Australia/Canada.
I use Glysolid At Great Prices ..:: FREE Glysolid Product With Purchase
that thing is a miracle I used to have rash during winter when it gets so freezing, now not anymore..
other than that, just few weeks ago I had dry and cracked lips. I put my glysolid for my lips and it worked within 2 days..
also for my cracked heels, glysolid worked within days..
good luck..

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
I have very sensitive skin. I use Aveeno cleanser.
I don't use a toner b/c I find it's very drying.

For the winter when I'm very dry, I use Cetaphil moisterizer. It's very thick. I love it.

In the summer months, I use proactive.

I also exfoliate only 1x a week. More than that will irritate my skin.

Good Luck.

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
I'm sure you guys are aware of this, but I thought I'd point it out just in case, since sometime people forget! Your skin loses a LOT of moisture at night, so you should try using a good heavy moisturizing cream before you go to bed. I know a lot of people don't bother with the night creams, and some are afraid that since they're heavy, they'll be pore-clogging, but you can find some pretty good ones these days. I haven't noticed it so much with my face yet, but I can't sleep without wearing medicated lip balm anymore, or I'll wake up with severely chapped lips (which would never happen so fast in the day time).

Re: Sensitive skin/ skin care routine Help
Im 26 and noticed a very big difference in my skin but within the last couple of years. Prior to that I had normal skin (actually perfect and very clear). Now that my skin has turned to shit, my facial skin is now very VERY sensitive, (entire cheek area only, forehead and nose is fine) oily as well which = white heads, and some dry patches around my mouth area. So I've yet to find a moisturizer that that does not irritate my face ( i should say cheeks). I currently use Neutrogena Oil Free for sensitive skin no spf. This product is OK, no irritation but not enough moisture cause my face is still producing oil, much more than normal.
So no luck with moisturizer, but a great cleanser I found is by Mario Badescu (enzyme cleanser) which is great, no irritation at all, it doesnt dry out my skin and removes makeup nicely.

Good luck... having sensitive skin is a b****.
