Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
hey all!
So I have done a search on this site, temptalia, yahoo and makeupalley and I still cannot decide if Lustering and Up the Amp are for me.
Up the Amp: I have seen several lip swatches and pictures. Originally, I liked it because it seemed to have some hints of berry (reddish-pink?) in it. I have Purple Rite and Fierce and Fabulous. Do I need this? And does it have a berry tone to the purpleness of it, if that makes any sense?
Lustering: I have seen this in the FOTD and it looks different in every single picture I have seen. I saw it on make-up alley and same thing - one picture it looks like I would love it and then another I am like I saw this on a hot pink must have on temptalia. I considered Girl about Town but that seemed to be too much for me.
I don't have a MAC close to me so I do most of my ordering online. I do a lot of research before I purchase. However, this go around my head is spinning from all the searching.
For reference, I am NC 25-30 (or at least close to that. I wear Sand Beige and Buff in REvlon Colorstay) Blue eyes, blonde/brown hair.
Thanks all!
Any help would be so appreciated.

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
Sorry, don't know about Up the Amp, but I can tell you that Lustering is a great hot pink, a bit like Impassioned but cooler, with a touch of fuchsia. Very bright but, being a lustre, very wearable.

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
If you got 20 min, check out this YouTube Video, he goes through a bunch of different lipsticks, one of them is Up the Amp:
You can probably skip to his review of Up The Amp, he lists the lipsticks he goes through in the sidebar.

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
Lustering, on me anyway, was a more sheer version of Girl About Town, which is why I skipped it. I prefer the amplified formula over lustre, and didn't think I needed two different formulations of the same color...hehe. Can't tell you much of anything about Up The Amp, as I don't have it, and honestly don't remember if I've ever swatched it...I go toward really bright (mostly blue-toned) pinks.
Basically I'd say go for Lustering if you're a little intimidated by hot pink...it's a very wearable, pretty color, and easy to tone down. That being said, I think every girl needs to own Pink Nouveau. Gorgeous color.

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
I don't have lustering but I loooove Up the Amp. I would say it looks good on most ppl so I think you should get it. It's definitely my favourite lipstick in my stash (and I have too many lispticks). I get complimented so much when I wear this....I'm in between NW25 and NW30 for reference

And Up the Amp is pretty blue toned, it's sort of a cool toned pink purple. I think you should get it too, best lippie ever

forgot to add, I searched youtube as well and this video came up for me. How funny, I have seen it before. I will watch it again. Love this video! thanks for reminding me, cuz I am a dork!

cripes, that was on my list too! I think I have a pretty good idea on the color though. Swatches were good and clear.

I'm new to this board but you are an enabler aren't you? Seriously though, I need to figure out these terms (cool toned, blue based, etc.) Time to search again!

I'm the same way...I'll pimp my favorites out to everyone...but unfortunately my HG lipstick isn't perm...well, not in their regular line anyway...Show Orchid...but at least I can order it from Pro...I'd die without it.

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
I must be the only person who Up the Amp doesn't work for It looks sooo good on other people but it looked like a garish crayon colour on...I agree it's a cool pink/purple...it was almost neon on me, like Lavender Whip. It looked so promising in the tube
I have a very olive skintone (think Jessica Alba skin but maybe a bit darker) so maybe that's why. I really tried!!

Aww...not everyone can wear those colors...but I bet you could pull off Morange and look dead sexy in it...unlike me, who looks like...a dead pumpkin.

I freakin love Show Orchid I have a thing for bright blue based pinks...so I adore Show Orchid, Gladiola and Up the Amp (more purple-y)

yeah try Morange...unfortunately that one doesn't work for me...I remember a while ago at MAC I tried it on coz my MA said it must look good on me (as per her reasoning, ppl with my complexion should be able to pull off anything). As soon as I put it on, she's like: "ok take it off, let's try something pink"

LMAO definitely check it out...I tried it, cuz I'm in love with obnoxiously bright lips, but it looked AWFUL on me *pout*...so I stick with toned-down oranges like Vegas Volt (such a hot color...esp with Euro Beat d/g).

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
Lustering is my absolute favorite pink lipstick ever. It just makes my whole face look fresh and glowy. If that even makes sense!! LOL

Re: Two questions about Up the Amp and Lustering
I have both Up the Amp and Purple Rite and they are definitely different. Purple Rite is frosty where as Up the Amp is an amplified (I believe). I think you can get away with having both. Up the Amp is also one of my faves!
I also have Lustering and it's a pretty, wearable vibrant pink. If you are scared of bright, strong pinks then definitely try Lustering. HTH!
