General Comments on this product:
My old standby red lipstick. I am particularly partial to matte lipsticks, and MAC has a pretty good formulation. Not chalky, and they go on smoothly. Some people find they can be drying, so a lip conditioner underneath might be adviseable. Russian Red is a bright, bold, true blue-red. Reformulated in 2004 to be less drying.

I love this red. The new formulation isn't as drying as it used to be, but I still use lip conditioner underneath. I also have the l/g and I adore them both. Perfect fo rwhen I want to glam up!!

I just got this as a Back 2 Mac and like it a lot - I'm wearing it as a stain with a little bit of clear gloss on top, and with minimal make up on the rest of my face. It's a lovely clear, bluish red that brightens my complexion when I put it on - so much that I don't really need to wear eye makeup, just a little mascara and perhaps some blusher high up on my cheekbones. Would definitely buy this again if it runs out.

A good red, I would definatly reach for it more if I didn't have my trusty Ruby Woo! The matte texture isn't too drying, and it's still a good red although more orangey, I don't think this one is blue based.

This is THE MAC lipstick, it rocks. Along with Steamy e/s was my addiction starter and my HG lipstick. It works gorgeously on most skins - both me (NC20) and my friend who is white lol, could use it. And Kylie rocked it on tour - what more do you need to love it?

i'm such a red lip slut. i got this for free from mac, and now that i have it i don't know how i ever lived without it. it's such a perfect, classic red, and i love the matte texture.

Russian Red is my first (and only) red lipstick.I wanted one for a bit but i didn't know if red would suit me.(I don't wear a lot of color in lipstick mostly gloss)I basked the MA at Mac and she tried this one on me...wow, I couldn't believe it when i saw myself in the mirror, i felt sooo sexy i had to buy it!

I always somehow feel that I don't love Russian Red quite as much as I "should."
I think that's because at the time I bought Russian Red, I was looking for an equivalent of my beloved HG red, Powerhouse.
Powerhouse is a clear, brrrright, five-alarm, sirens-screaming red, while Russian Red is deep red; the classic pin-up red.
Now that I've discovered Red Enriched liner, I like Russian Red more; it has become my go-to deep red.
I love that Russian Red doesn't have brown or berry tones; it's just deep pure red.
Though I was initially kind of lukewarm about Russian Red, I don't want to be without it now.
