Pigment: Dark Soul

Buy again? Not sure
Dark Soul is one of the newer formulations and I am not as fond of it as I am the older MAC pigment formulations. Dark Soul is a more gritty pigment. Charcoal gray with silver tiny microglitter is the best way I can describe it.
Used dry, it is very light gray, used wet, it is dark, and looks a lot better.
Nice for holiday looks, but best if used with mixing medium or locked into place with a good base.

Dark soul makes a beautiful liner; however, it isn't eyesafe unless they have reformulated it . Dark soul is a black with silver glitter.

In the pot this looks black with little sparkles which is what made me but it but on the eyelids it comes out gray and doesn't seem to last very long on me.
This is probably the only pigment I haven't been that impressed with, I was expecting more.

I bought this at the CCO after passing it over many, many times. I've only used it as a liner because I'm pale and black eyeshadows aren't my thing. Now that fluidliners are out I never use this. If you don't wear black eyeshadows pass on this one. It's only good as a liner and there is much better out there.

I only use this as an eyeliner and it is really pretty. I tried to use it as an eyeshadow but it wasn't that great. It's a bit too dark. If I mix it with other colors it helps give more of a smokey effect

i got this as a mini in the holiday pigment set, and i am glad i got a smaller version before i purchased a big jar. this color is pretty, but sort of akward to work with. it can be used wet as a liner...then again, so can a lot of other things, and they can work better. this pigment tends to have a LOT of fall-out, as well. this pigment can have a few uses, but its not worth it, IMO. i think MAC's black tied would be a great substitute to getting this pigment.

I, too, got this as a mini as a prelude to purchasing a full jar and I'm glad I did. The consistency is not the "norm" for pigments and it doesn't go on dry very dark. Used as a liner either wet or with mixing medium, it's wonderful, but it's definitely NOT the great black shadow I was hoping for.
In the future, it's carbon or black tied for me.

I have the same complaints about it as everyone else. Looking at it I thought it was black and would be a great black but it looks grey on and looks terrible on my skin. Way dissapointed

Buy again? no way, I will never use up what I have!
I have a sample of this.... and I use it for 2 things:
Halloween (really nice to pat over black lips), and to darken other pigments. it actually works pretty well as a darkener for any pigment. Use a petri dish or a sample container, put in your desired color, and mix in a SMALL amount of DarkSoul, mix, and add more accordingly. When SheShines came out, I wanted to see if Nightlight was a darker Goldenolive, so I tried this and it worked like a charm. By using this to mix with pigments you can expand your color selection like whoah.

One of the pigments I was hoping to be happier with, I found the grey it produced when used dry disappointing - I was really looking for a TRUE black shimmery non matte pigment and this just isnt it. I only use this wet now (with mixing medium) and only as a base for smokey eye which I find to be acceptable although it can be somewhat difficult to work with I will continue to use what I have but wont be buying another, I find black tied a better alternative!

I HATE my Dark Soul pigment. It's sad to say because it's the only MAC product that doesn't work for me. I've tried this wet with water, wet with contact solution and/or Visine solution, I've tried it dry...NOTHING works for me. This stuff makes a huge mess and irritates my contact lens wearing eyes. I find it very hard to work with on my eyes and I always use a base, whether it be a shadestick or a paint. I have a whole jar and nowhere to go with this! Like all pigments, I took off a point because I think they could have a sifter top so clumsy peeps like me won't be as prone to spilling it. The color is beautiful, deep black with lots of pretty shimmer...but it just makes a huge mess, on and off my eyes, so I'll just have to find someone else to pass this one onto.

I see you don't like this pigment, but I adore it, it looks very dark black on my extra pale skin, and it's not dull as some other black pigments, the quality of shimmer in it is very high and subtle. I have only a tester of it and I wll definetly purchase it in full size.
