Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
OK,
I just got my Magic Mirth and Mischief Haul and I am so disappointed with the eye kit. That just can't be 5.3 g of product like last year. I was going to pick up the smoke and mirrors, sorceress and devil may care and I just couldn't. I only picked up the sorceress because the colors were so different. I decided to buy all the MES except Blue Sorcery (I do not wear teal). I live in the islands and roughly converted, I paid US 41.00 for the sorceress eyeshadow.
I know that I like to use a lot of colors, so that sets make the most sense for me, I tend to like the Christmas collection because it is economical, but even I couldn't bear to pay so much for so little.
So my haul looked like this
(1) Midnight Madness
(2) Mayhem (don't have it now, but I'm getting it next week)
(3) Devil May Care (Wasn't going to get that one, but I decided what the hey, it looks good on me)
(4)Under your spell (Same as above)
(5) It's a miracle
(6) Sorceress
(7) She Zam
(8) Conjure Up
(9) Phiff (My sister has this one for me)
I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the sets.
The brush set have no eyeshadow applicator brush. What sense does that make
The Fadacadabra set I was going to get before i decided to feed my MES addiction. I have warm blend MSF and it will do as a bronzer kit
I was also going to get Superdupernatural, but it just didn't show up enough for me and I prefer darker browns as I am an NW45/50.
So that's my rant.
But on the plus side, She-Zam makes it 17 Dazzleglass and 2 Glimmerglasses and counting.
Just call me VampMac

when i got my palette i thought they were smalled than previous years. however i compared it to the past 2 years holiday compacts and the amount is the same. the palette is deeper so i can only assume the shadows are deep but smaller area covered
i wore my sorceress palette today. sooo pretty! i used the middle colour on the bottom row on my lid, the dark purple in the crease and the white one to highlight!

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
One of things that drives me crazy about this year's palettes is the *tiny* bush that comes with them - - I usually use my full size brushes anyway, but if I wanted to use the brush that came with the eyeshadow or lip palettes the handle of it is SO SMALL. Ugh. Why even bother putting one in there at all if it's that tiny. Forget carrying the palettes around for touch ups unless you bring other bushes.
Annoying.
/rant over....
that said, the neutral lip palette is my favorite thing from the holiday sets....it has the *perfect* nude/nude-pink colors. I am actually contemplating a backup. I have been wearing it all the time - so perfect for everyday.

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
^ yes the brushes this year were stupidly small! shorter than previous years in fact. i never really use the mini brushes. they get chucked in a brush bag where brushes i don't use too often go!

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
I Just got back from bloomingdales and picked up the deep lip set (models misbehaving). It is GORGEOUS! All my brown girls run out and get this set ASAP! I am so in love with this set that I think I will get another one before it sells out. Unlike last year, every color is perfect and gorgeous. I skipped all holiday sets last year b/c there would only be one or two shades that I wanted and that pissed me off, so I passed. This set, though is a total winner and I love the name, Models Misbehaving.
This set, Utter Fun lipstick and Lucky Number Nail Polish are all I got from the Holiday Collection. I'm done, so bring on Warm & Cozy. I also got Touch lipstick and I'm in love with that also. On my pigmented lips, it's the perfect nude. It also adds a warmth and liveliness that my bare lips was lacking. I'm on a high now from my two perfect purchases.

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
I am limited myself to only 2 lip gloss/pigment sets this year. But which ones should I get??? I am def getting the sexy shenanigans set but am tossing up between the other two lipgloss sets or the sexpot pigment set. I have a tonne of lipglosses and dont own any piggies but I am such a novice at eye makeup....

well the sexy gloss set is a good choice! as far as the other sets go i think the sexpot pigment set would be good if you don't have any. however pigments can be tricky to work with and i find the vials they come in hard work too because not many brushes will fit in the container. and equally it's tricky tipping product out to use because too much usually comes out! alot of the time i transfer my vials into sample jars for ease of use.

Thankyou for your advice...I think I might give the pigment set a miss, I prob wont get much use out of them anyways. Think I ll just get the sexy lipgloss set for now but temptation may get the better of me

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
I found a good use for those tiny little brushes that come with the palettes and I use it for smudging my liner either on my top lash line or my bottom lash line! I never use it to pack on colour as I think it's too small to do so, so I thought of another use for it!

What collection was Elle in and is it similar to Phosphorelle from the Lure collection?

I wore the same combo on Friday and lined the bottom with Parfait Amour.
Did anyone else's palette have shadows that were crooked in any of the sets? My Sorceress palette has the (second) top shadow thats crooked. Trivial, but I just happened to notice the other day.

Re: MAC - Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief (Holiday Sets Part I) Discussion
Only one more week for us (I hope!). I am getting 2 pigment sets this year, the warm one and the sexpot one. I know many of you think they're not very exciting but I just have to accept my brown/neutral leanings and go with it. Also, I look forward to the glitters - Reflects Gold and Antique Gold are both sooo beautiful!
The lipgloss sets are also very tempting, I want both the Sexy and the Frisky one, but I think I'll have to settle for one of them and hope my husband gets me the other one for christmas.

i'm surprised that the uk got the kits so quickly. i wasn't expecting it and some of the counters and stores still haven't put them out! but they're on the site. so odd. hopefully time will go quickly for you and that they'll be well worth it when you do get them!

The new swatches of the Sorceress palette have made me want it even more and have pushed it from a nice-to-have to a must get! Lol. I am seriously considering it. I'll base it on whether or not I get the BB compact :/

I really only want the lipglass set because of elle. I ran out of that lipglass such a long time ago and it is gorgeous. Hopefully it will show up at a CCO someday.

I know, it was the same for me when I saw the swatch thread! I really can't afford it though, so I hope I can be strong and just say no.

You and me both, Karen! That's why I'm trying to find dupes first I'm sure it can be done. Except that middle top colour! Love it. It matches my Photo Realism quad

honestly i would skip the bb compact. if you have a cco near you it'll most likely end up there. people aren't spending as much on make up now and at a cco in the uk i went to a few weeks ago they still have last years monogram compacts. i'm skipping bb compact because i'm saving for the yet to be confirmed disney collection!
