MAC - Holiday 2008 "Red She Said" Discussion

FYI for those who are trying to budget: Last year the Antiquitease came out Oct 18. The palettes and brush sets came out on Oct. 25. The gift sets came out Nov. 15. The lipstick/lipgloss sets came out Nov. 21. So basically every couple weeks after the middle of Oct., expect goodies through the middle of Nov. The only good news is that the rest of the collections from then til Christmas aren't wallet burners, at least for me.

Me too! I am in big trouble with this collection. I adore the holdiay stuff and I usually end up buying it for myself because I can't wait until Christmas to open it!

That's what I did last year! Hahahah. I actually really like the Antiquitease stuff, but I didn't pick up any of the palettes, though I'm still kicking myself for not getting the warm eyes one.

To go off of that, I work retail and we start having half of the store as Christmas in October. We are going to start getting Christmas items in probably in a month. We go full holiday first week of November. It's not designed for us as much as it is for people who are doing their Christmas shopping...and face it, I am hoping to be 80% done by the beginning of November.

Thanks for all the scheduling info! I have a dumb newbie question. Is this the sort of thing that you need to hurry and buy the day each piece comes out, or are they likely to be available through the season? I would guess it would depend on each piece, probably. Is there anything that in the past has consistently sold out early, like the gift sets or the palettes?

This collection sounds like it'll be amazing! I'm waiting to see the colors, but I'm lacking in neutral and matte shadows (and am awash in shimmery purples) so I'm hoping for a more neutral eye palette and dazzleglasses - hopefully one with red sparkles! I'll probably buy either the thing I most want or the thing I want that's most likely to sell out on my own, and put the rest on my Christmas list.

I may just ask my mom to get me a gift card to one of the stores with a MAC counter in it, as she has an uncanny ability to buy ALMOST exactly what you ask for. Like if I ask for a Cool Eyes palette, I'm almost certain to get a Warm Eyes palette or a Lip palette, or one from a previous collection that's lingering around, or an eye palette from some other counter nearby...

Totally not a dumb question! So important if you ask me! It really depends on your location as far as how fast a collection will sell out, especially the holiday collection. But if you want to make sure they have what you want in stock, you have to go the day of the release. I feel better doing it this way so I get what I want AND if you can go on the release day, which is usually a Thursday, it won't be busy or crowded - weekends are HORRIBLE like that, especially during the holiday season.

Yeah that's what I thought.But it does mean that at least I can get my hands on dazzleglasses sooner than I thought too.Sooo many collections-I can't wait to hear what is going to be in the gift sets and palettes.They will be killer I'm sure

Thanks! I wonder if I can get my best friend to hit the malls with me on Thursdays after work during the season, to "get our Christmas shopping done, and see what ornaments are left at the Hallmark stores for our day-after-Christmas shopping. Oh, and let's run by the MAC counter while we're here..."

On a related note, I found last year that most stuff from these collections were still available at my counter through the holiday, so I waited b/c I knew that on Christmas I'd get some gift cards from family. Sure enough I did, and went to the MAC counter just a day or two after, and all the holiday collections had been removed! I was super sad. So make sure you don't wait til AFTER Christmas to go.

did you ask them if they still had them. sometimes they have to put away the holiday stands to make room for the new collections, but if you ask the MAs, they might still have some stuff from the past collections

So far I will definitely rush-buy all the Dazzleglasses, but I draw the line there. October will be draining my wallet between Manish, minerals, and holiday stuff from not only MAC but my store AND VS.

October is going to be a killer month. Not only will my bank account die from starvation but I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is going to kill me for spending hundreds & hundreds of $$ on MAC in one month...

All I know is. I haven't been wanting much lately as my collection has been maturing, so let's hope this trend continues. I don't ever want another Fafi experience. O_O Though I really hope I will have more money once holiday rolls around. I'll be working more shifts, hopefully!

Even if it will be their 25th anniversary next year, I doubt EVERY collection will be awesome. Release a BEST OF collection on the day of their anniversary, at least, I hope so!
However, one more repromote of Jardin Aires, Steel Blue, or Kitschmas and I will explode! :argh:

I mean I could understand if they repromoed colours like Vanilla, Fuschia, or so forth among there to give the people who shop at counters a way to get the pigments...but it is excessive with Jardin Aires and what not. Also I would love it if they repromoed the Crystalled glitters.
