I've noticed that some Mac shadows are too chalky (Yogurt) or apply unevenly/go on choppy (Vex) so I'm wondering what other Mac shades have been problematic.

I have noticed this also ( I second ur example with Yogurt-it is chalky) and i totally agree wit you on Vex, it does apply unevenly.....
For me, toehr problematic eyeshadows have been:
Steamy ( I cant get this color to show up!)
Plumage(again, this color just applies unevenly on me)
Juxt (I cant get it to show up either)

I do think that part of the problem is the base that I use-I use Bare Canvas paint and I think it rather fades out colors, which is why im going to be looking into the Shadesticks in the future....

Well, Vex is a nice e/s in my opinion, you can combine & blend it very nice.

It really depends on the person- their application techniques, tools, skin, products used in conjunction, local weather, etc.

I have no problem with any of the above mentioned products.

Thats true...I have plumage, juxt and steamy and i love every single one...skintone does play a big part on what colors stand out. and i dont use bare canvas..alot of ppl do..but i prefer shimmer bases like magrittes, stilife, or the shimmersand shadestick. im telling you...when you put steamy over a shadestick it really stands out....just go to the store and test it on ur hand..ull see.

I've never had a problem with Vex or Steamy, but I do with Motif and Surreal. I use Stilife paint as a base, so I'm going to give shadesticks a try, or maybe Bare Canvas.

As much as I love Jewel Blue, it never seems to go on well with me. I need like a million coats of it for it to show up, and I have pale skin.

It's the only shadow I've ever had that problem with before, other than Chrome Yellow.

Yeah, Jewel Blue, I hate it with a passion, it's the only one I really don't like.

Ooooh… Plumage is so pretty, one of my favorite winter colors, especially when paired with Whim. Also, I use the sponge tip applicator for Plumage because it gives a better concentration of color and it makes the blending so much easier. Hope that helps!

It looks super briht on me, but I'm just not able to blend the bitch

The only e/s I have found a problem with is trax. It never goes on evenly and always creases and it never looks right with anything I try to pair it with. It is such a beautiful color that I can't seem to do much with.

Orb and Steep for me. I don't have the time or patience to build 10 layers of e/s. They're horrible. I'm sure there's more but these are the two I have that I hate. And I hate Honeylust even more, don't know why they stick it in every friggin' palette ever made. It has so little color, all you end up applying is that chunky glitter. Yuck.

And I totally agree re: Trax. Pretty, but I can't figure out what the hell to do with it?

The only shade I've ever had a continuous problem with is Honey Lust. It was like loose glitter and didn't apply any significant color (just shimmer all over the cheeks). I never found a way to make it work, and I've gotten rid of it. But there's usually a way to make anything work -- chalky ones, streaky ones, etc. A different base, brush, or technique often helps a lot.

I actually love gleam, but I allways apply this on a stick underground like a ccb or a shadestick, NOT over a paint! Same for honeylust.

The only shadow I can say I really hated was meadowland. It just never worked for me. It was so sheer, and no matter how many layers, s/s, or paint I tried, nothing worked. I gave it to my mom. Honeylust works great for me though. I use my beiging or cedarrose s/s and I always get compliments on it. In fact, I think it might be one of my favorite colours now. It is so pretty with mulch.

I love Honey Lust, you just have to find the best way to apply it. I find that it goes on beautifully when you use your finger to apply rather than a brush.
One shadow I don't like though, is Parfait Amour. I just can't get it to work.

Honey Lust IS difficult,but I must say that Gleam and Retrospeck are 2 of my VERY favorite shadows. It did however take some working to get them to perform correctly....

I must insist that when working with these colors...use the 252 brush!!! The packed bristles distributes evenly and perfect. I use all of my shadows over a paint (a necessity!), never NOT use a base! Thank you. I will shut up now.

Aside from the difficulty of working with the Lustres, I've had trouble with Motif and Parfait Amour.

Bases and special techniques help, but really, I'd rather just use a shadow that works in the first place...

pretty much all lustres are too difficult to work with IMO except aquadisiac

here are the ones i cant stand because they never show up

+ honey lust
+ trax
+ beautymarked

even though they look so gorgeous in the pot, they just are too hard to work with

btw, jewel blue is probably my favorite eyeshadow :O how strangeee

I had trouble with Hush and Oceanique. No matter what I use as a base, I just can't get them to show up on me!

I find that Steamy goes on much better when applied with a sponge applicator. It is way too sheer when I use a brush.

I loathe Trax - I have green eyes and everyone told me to try it but I end up looking like I've been punched. It's too bad because it looks so pretty in the pan.

I love Juxt, it is sort of sheer, but I don't think thats necessarily a bad thing. If you want that colour but intense, get chartru paint instead.
I agree about Trax, I have green eyes as well and wanted it to work and its so beautiful in the pan but every time I try it but it just doesn't happen. The purple undertone doesn't want to blend and is bruised coloured on me (I once swatched it right beside a bruise on my inner wrist, same colour.. no joke) and the lack of blendability gives it even more of a bruisey look, and then the gold shimmer is easy to move around and goes everywhere, so its impossible for me to get a nice finish with it. Sad... I'm so jealous of people who can make it work!

Beauty Marked is also plain black on me, the shimmer ends up in random places on my face and doesn't show at all in the shadow unless I use it wet, and then its only good as a liner and maroon pigment is similar but prettier imo.

Retrospeck can be messy but the colour is beautiful and so worth the effort! I'm glad they seem to be improving the lustre texture. Idol Eyes is the worst, blargh!!!
