I'll have to try a larger Michael's... the one near my home has an ill-stocked (and very messy) brush selection. And they didn't carry the Winsor Newton 240 series. I did pick up several brushes by American Painter (a subsidiary of Loew-Cornell). The 4000 Round in #1 is a fantastic liner, and the #6 is unbeatable for getting into the crease with e/s. The 4450 Chisel Blender in #6 is perfect for defining that outer V or putting concentrated color. Try them... all three cost me about $10 total!

i don't like the art store brushes as much because of the handles. they're too long. won't fit in any of my makeup bags

I tend to just cut the handles if they are too long. It's pretty easy to do.

I really want to stop at a craft store now... I thought about buying artist brushes, but I never have yet (for m/u).

I read through this thread, but I just wanted to know what brand everyone thinks is good? esp. for a e/s blending brush

Yeah! I do the same for my synthetic nylon brushes. They are so cheap. It's the best thing to do!

I'm going to Michael's tonight to pick up a brush for actual painting, so I'm excited to experiment with the others to look for some for makeup application.

I currently own ZERO MAC brushes because I'm just getting started. I've always used my fingers or those cheap sponge applicators. I'm old school I guess.

Is there anything that remotely resembles the mac 'square shader'? (not sure what number) I love the look of it but I can't bear to spend any more on brushes!!

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
I think we've started something, ladies. During my monthly visit to my local arts store yesterday, I noticed something that looked suspiciously like a brush roll sized for makeup brushes and picked it up...

Not only was it a "cosmetics brush roll", it came with a complete essential set of brushes inside, from lipbrush to three different sizes of eyeshadow brushes and even the fan brush and eyebrow brush/comb. All for the equivalent of USD10.

They're also nice, if something happens to them like you lose them or the dog gets at your brushes, you didn't lose something that expensive

I use:
Loew Cornell 5812 Taklon as my concealer brush
Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 270 1/4 brush as a replacement for MAC 231
Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 270 3/8 brush as a replacement for MAC 239

but I still luv all my above MAC brushes and the others I have.

LOL I forgot about this thread. As I told the lady who PM'd me about this - was it darkh3av3n? - I'm in Singapore, and I doubt you have an Art Friend store where you are. IIRC, they're a local company. If you have any wholesale arts and crafts stores nearby, though, you might be able to find something similar, because the "cosmetics" brushes that I found were really mostly just artist's brushes packaged differently (and together), with the addition of a plastic brow comb/brush, mascara wand, sponge-tip applicator, and two fluffier-than-usual-for-artist's brushes for foundation and blush.

I'll take pictures of the set I bought, if anyone's interested.

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
A little off-topic but if you go to Costco right now (for those in Cali.. I don't know if there are Costco's elsewhere haha)..

I picked up a 14-piece makeup brush set for $21-something + tax (so around $24)!!! I haven't used it yet but they all feel awesome!!!

I can post a list of the brushes if you girls want.. but I suggest you head down there and pick up a pack!! They sell our pretty fast I heard and I've heard that the quality is fairly good as well.

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
Ya its true, you can buy just typical artist brushes instead spending million dollars on name brands one. BUT!!! what i found out is that the artist brush, especially the big fluffy ones, there is a comparision with name brands and artist because i noticed that the artist brushes , the hair comes off very fast whether you're applying make up , letting them sit there or washing them . =( but i recommend buying the eyeliner brushes and sometimes eyeshadow brushes from artists =) haha, i tend to buy any brush that i find pretty or the hair is really softtttt!!!
