Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
I find some Artist brushes to be expensive too..especially if I get good quality ones, haha. But generally, I only get eyeliner brushes from the Art Store, which can run about a buck thirty five- and I buy around 5 since I can only use one brush max 6 times. Haha. They're a good staple to buy if you dont' want to shell out that 15-20 dollars for a MAC angled eyeliner brush or something.

Something you SHOULD invest in is like som e people here have already said..face brushes, I find art store brushes to be too rough on the skin to be used as blush brushes, so I go back to using my ELF Studio Line powder brush- which is EQUALLY good as my MAC brush.

If some of you guys don't want to resort to Art brushes, there is always the ELF Studio Line brushes which are equally as good to some of the MAC brushes + their regular line eyeshadow crease brush is good too! Only a dollar!

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
I have both artist's brushes and MAC brushes and honestly when it comes to the 239 the Lowel-Cornell 3/8 " 270 Maxine Mop is a great dupe. Also if you are insisting on purchasing a artist brush for blush allow me to reccommend The Winsor & Newton series 240 #3. This brush is about $10 USD but it has to be the softest brush I have ever come across for blush. I should note here that I don't own any MAC blush brushes. Only Sephora and ELF . I have to say I was disappointed with both.

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
I see a lot of you talking about sawing down the handles on artist's brushes, which I'd definitely have to do cause they're so damn long...but how would I go about doing that safely? Just saw the end off with a kitchen knife? :P

Re: Makeup Brushes vs Artists Brushes
So, regardless of sawing off ends (LOL!), I decided to take a trip to my university book store this morning right before work to check out their art supplies. I was actually looking for containers for pigments (which I found--Cubbyware containers, roughly 5 or 6 grams each, for $0.25 a piece; woo!), but I also decided to check out their brushes. I resisted the urge to buy all of the beautiful $1-3 brushes (LOL) and only bought 3: I'll be using them as a liner, precision, and eyeshadow brush, respectively. They cost $1 (liner) and $1.29 (precision and eyeshadow) each, are taklon, and work beautifully. Even better, the handles are surprisingly short, far shorter than most of the artist's brushes.

All in all, a great shopping day, as I got 6 containers and 3 brushes for under $6. TOTAL score! And I resisted the urge to buy the Pearl Ex pigments series 3 set they had left over...it had their orange pigment, which I really want to try. :X But I resisted!!!
