2 different animals (for me anyway!). Studio Fix is *way* too powdery for my normal to dry skin. Studio Tech is OK, but my fave is Select ... easy to apply and lasts forever. I've been told by MAs that SF and ST have distinctly different customer bases if you will ...

Yup I second that!
SF is for people with flawless skin IMHO that need nearly no coverage just a sheer look!
ST is for people like me when they have a lot of pimples and red zones to cover everything up!

I have tried both and love Studio Tech but i keep trying Studio Fix because it's so convenient but it has a tendency to look fake and misbehave colour and texture wise. Studio Tech always behaves the way you try to make it to!

Hope you won't be disappointed with it. I used to find it shiny and heavy and then realised i could make it work how i wanted it to with the right skin prep and now it's honestly so well behaved! (lol sounds like a pet). The MAC Skin Primer and Fix+ to sheer it out and blend like a dream, both work really well with it.

DIFFERENCE between studio fix & studio tech???
But the best foundation is IMHO Select SPF15, it gives me the right coverage, I just take my ST if my skin has a badbad day!
And if you're scared of liquid foundations, take a look @ Moistureblend!

VV - Do you find the Select SPF comes off at the slightest touch of water/oil/sweat? And that it photographs with a white cast because of the SPF? Those are all things i've heard about Select SPF that have put me off it.

I used to use Studio Fix when I was younger, but now that my skin is more normal to dry, I find the Tech more suitable. Studio Fix is a best friend though, for anyone with oily skin. The Fix is supposed to have more coverage than Tech.

I use them both, for different reasons. I like Studio Fix on days when I'm in a rush and just want to do a quick face before I head out. It is easy and pretty much foolproof. I don't like it for everyday, because it feels uncomfortable on my dry skin. I also think it heavy on me. I don't mind if my e/s looks obvious, but I think foundation should look as close as possible to the skin.
Studio Tech is what I use most of the time. I find it very easy to control the intensity of the application. I like it fairly sheer on most of my face, and a little heavier under my eyes, where my dark tired circles need more coverage. I especially like it applied with the 190 brush, the results with the sponge just aren't the same for me. I think it looks natural and feels comfortable on my skin.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
Studio Fix made me break out...a lot of women told me that they experience that as well when I worked at Sephora and they were looking for something with the same coverage as the SF. Would Studio Tech make me break out too? I have normal to oily skin.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I like the texture/feel of studio tech, but for some reason it doesn't spread evenly on my nose no matter what I do..I have dry skin, but use moisturizer and it just seems slippery somewhat..SF gives me great, flawless coverage.

So that's the purpose and advantage of a face primer huh? wow, thanks sushi for that info

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I've got very dark undereye circles and slightly uneven skin tone, so I need a foundation that gives me good coverage. For years I used liquid foundations (except for a brief flirtation with a Clinique cream-to-powder) but I wasn't getting enough coverage. My skin was combination, though more oily than dry, so I tried Studio Fix.
Then my DH and I moved to a colder, dryer climate and my skin's been going crazy ever since! I have a little oiliness in the T-zone but otherwise my skin is dry. Suddenly I'm using moisturizer---I've never had to use moisturizers in the past---but now I can't stand to go a day without a moisturizer. And Studio Fix, which worked well in a more humid place, started to look chalky.
So, on the advice of a MAC MA, I switched to Studio Tech. It's been pretty good. I like the coverage---it seems to even out my skintone and cover the undereye circles well. I'm still learning how to best apply it, though. I use a foundation brush (Px) to apply it, then I brush up and down, apply some Fix+ and then stipple with the 187. Hope I'm doing it right! I've also had a couple of issues w/ the color but think I finally have it right.
BTW, how do the colors in Studio Fix compare with Studio Tech? I was matched N4 Studio Fix---NW15 was way too light---and I wear NW20 in Studio Tech, though I might need to go to NW 15 in the winter. Thanks in advance for any comments and opinions.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I like Studio Fix mostly out of convenience, but I like the texture of Tech a lot more. I'm not a big fan of the matte look, but I'm a sucker for the time saving.
If you think Studio Fix is too matte/drying, try spraying Fix+ or a glycerin+water mixture over it when you're done applying. It melts the powder into your skin and ends up having the same glow as cream and liquid foundations but without the longer application time. And if you want it even more glowy, add a pigment like vanilla into the spray so that it's this sheer shimmer everywhere. I do this during winter when my skin gets dryer and it's AMAZING and makes my foundation last 329483209x longer. I never have to reapply!
