If you think Studio Fix is too matte/drying, try spraying Fix+ or a glycerin+water mixture over it when you're done applying. It melts the powder into your skin and ends up having the same glow as cream and liquid foundations but without the longer application time. And if you want it even more glowy, add a pigment like vanilla into the spray so that it's this sheer shimmer everywhere. I do this during winter when my skin gets dryer and it's AMAZING and makes my foundation last 329483209x longer. I never have to reapply!
About how much pigment do you add to the bottle?

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
For winter months I love using studio fix powder, in the summer I use the liquid foundation. I might stop at a counter on the weekend to try out the other foundations.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
Studio Tech is my favorite foundation. It works well for almost everyone since its water based and is for all skin types. The coverage is great but still has a soft and natural finish.

If you are oily, and need a more matte look than I would go to Studio Fix

I've never tried both of the foundations before. I've always wanted to try the Studio Fix Fluid since I heard it has good coverage.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I use Studio Fix Fluid and have combination, oily/dry skin. It works really well but can look a little patchy if i dont exfoliate often. It has a really good coverage though and if i need to top it up a little, i just put a little Studio Fix powder on that problem area and hey presto, all good again.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I've never used the Studio Tech, but in my opinion, the Studio Tech Powder Foundation is pretty awful, I'm sorry to say. It cakes so easily, provides uneven coverage, is SUPER powdery, is very hard to blend, makes you look like you're obviously wearing makeup, rubs off easily, is EXTREMELY difficult to touch up (which it will need), and changes color randomly within the first few hours of wear. I've tried multiple methods of application: kabuki brush, large domed powder brush, sponge, blush brush, stippling brush, and even fingers! Not a single one of them has provided near to fine coverage. It got returned within the first week. Just for some background info: I have combo skin, and at the time, had a few pimples, one rough patch, and relatively even toned skin. Studio Fix Powder Foundation is definitely not a product I'd recommend.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I have not tried it yet, but I've heard that Studion Fix works better when set with Fix+

Fix+ helps it kind of "melt" into the skin a bit better, so it prevents that cakey, powedery look.

Anyone try this yet?

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I'm looking into Studio Fix vs Studio Tech. By the looks of things Studio Tech seems better because it doesn't clog pores - I need something that doesn't because my skin hates anything other than non-comedogenic schtuff!

I was given Studio Stick when I went to the counter last time (a year and a half ago) but not happy with the white sheen it gives me - maybe that has something to do with the colour!

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
Sorry to hijack forum but if i tried a sample of moistureblend which i found to be a bit slippery on the skin and wiped off very very easily do you think studio tech might be better for me. I have normal to dry skin which is why i tried moistureblend. My closest MAC Counter is 600k's away which makes it hard to try out different MAC products.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
Hi Everyone

So I'm reading all of the posts and it just dawned on me that I may have been ill advised by a MA..Please let me know what you think...

I have super oily, acne prone skin. So the MA suggested using select coverage concealer (NC35), Studio Fix Fluid (NC37) and then set it with Studio Fix powder (NC40). Coverage is ok but my face feels heavy at the end of the day...Am I really supposed to use SF powder with the liquid or is there an alternative?

Thanks!

That sounds like a combination for someone that needs a lot of coverage because Studio Fix (powder) can be used a foundation alone--that's actually what it is supposed to be. A lot of people use this combo though so if you don't mind, it should be OK, but if you feel it's heavy, make them come up with something else for you.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I'm currently using Studio Tech. I love this foundation. I use the sponge and wet it with Fix + and it goes on so smooth. I set it with Sheer Select Foundation. My skin looks flawless and not powdery as it would with Studio Fix. Studio Fix was the first foundation I ever used and looking back, it did make my face powdery.

I really want to try Studio Tech..I have one question though, what do you ladies use to apply it? I get the feeling using the sponge wouldn't be wise on my acne-prone skin...

I use the 190 foundation brush. It works really well with this formulation & it's easier than a sponge to rinse out between every application.

I have the same type of skin and use the same routine. However, instead of using Studio Fix powder I now use the Mineralized Skinfinish Natural. It is much lighter than Studio Fix powder. A drawback though is that I do have oiliness break through throughout the day, so I have to powder about 2-3 times a day. But other than that, I would recommend the Skinfinish Natural over the SF powder.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
Unfortunately studio fix and every other mac foundation breaks me out so badly!! The only foundation of theirs that doesn't break me out is studio tech I love the way it looks and how it feels on my skin, It's actually good for your skin as it has emollients in it.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
I like Studio fix for my skin. I have been blessed with good skin (for now, lol) so the nights I go out with the girls and I want sheer coverage I use the Studio fix, then spray the fix+ and use the 150 brush to blend it.

Re: studio fix vs studio tech
The MA recommended Studio Fix for me and for awhile, it worked well, but now I'm finding that it's too dry/cakey for me. I have normal/combo skin but it makes my nose extra shiny and everywhere else too dry. Weird. I dont know if I want to try Studio Tech. I might go back to tinted moisturizers.
