i dislike NARS

I like my blush to be buildable because I'm a noob at applying it and have been wearing a really light blush for the longest time which is why some NARS blushes scare me. The NARS SA put orgasm on my cheeks the other week and I felt like a clown, it was SUPER obvious and she only swiped the blush once and she tapped off some excess. I do have some NARS but I'm super careful with the application whereas with my YSL one I can apply blindly and it still looks ok.

like u, i used to be intimidated with pigmented blushes! i like to build it up to but i find that if you use a super duper light hand with the NARS blushes, u can also build the color up with them! good luck! i <3 NARS blushes!

I agree, I use a large powder brush to apply my Nars blushes and it works for me

Nars is a brand that I would only buy if I really needed the product and would be upset if I didn't get it. It's really expensive, but of the ones I have purchased from this brand, I wouldn't trade them or give them away.

I also find that adding primer on the lid helps intensify color and make it last longer, but it does make the color stiffer and harder to blend. What's the lesser of two evils? I definitely try to wear as little primer as I can get away with.

I have the grenadines eyeshadow and the island fever duo as far as their eyeshadows go and I love them both. I'm very patient when it comes to applying make up and usually I am more careful with treating my face when I have it on, so my results may be different from other people's. My eyeshadows fade a little bit by the end of the day, but I never really had to re-apply it unless it was a day that I really had to care about it. All in all, they're not too bad if you get the right shadows for your needs. The price is just a bit steep.

It's true they have been reformulating their shadows...I am not a fan of the ones with the large chunky glitter...but I do like the ones with a veluxe pearl texture to them.

I think that NARS eyeshadows need to applied with a fairly dense brush and patted on in a rolling motion for more intensity. I'll even use my fingers to blend and soften the edges sometimes. It's easy to overblend NARS shadows. The Night series eyeshadows definitely need a creamy base to allow the sparkles to stick.

Another tip I would suggest is wetting your brush for more intensity. Yes, the shadows can be used wet or dry!

Yes you do have to apply NARS differently than you do MAC.
And I love that I can wet my eyeshadows use them as a liner and not ruin it completely

And this is one that Mac has annoyed me on since people will make this mistake thinking they are anything alike because they share a name and similar color family.

I sort of agree on this, I use mostly MAC but more and more when I go out I find peers are using Chanel/NARS/Dior, now this works for them since they can find all their products at these companies, but I'm dark skin so I'm pretty locked into MAC or MUFE (which is my personal dislike brand)

MAC is more expensive pound for pound -- the only problem I have with NARS is that they use so much glitter which is not the looks I usually create.

I do so love Blondie tho.. I have a few backups.

I think that every cosmetics company has its hits and misses.Personally i adore Nars and obviously not everyone will feel the same.Because we all have different tastes,different styles different,and certain things for some can be holy grail items and for others it can be on there worst product ever list lol For me just like you dont like Nars i really dont like Smashbox.

But i will admit there are a few Nars products that i really dislike too.Number 1. is Nars Body Glow i hated it.It looked gorg in the bottle,smelled lovely but applied invisible,grrr! lWhats the point? Though thats not really makeup.Also i bought the Nars 9 Liquid Liner Brush and its quite rough which i hate since its for your eyes, but again thats not a makeup product either.Ok got one,im not a big fan of the Nars Liquid liner because for 1.I think its to thick so it can be pretty hard to apply a clean line and also it takes forever to dry.So if you have a even the slightest hooded lid dont you dare blink for a good few minutes at least or you ill destroy your entire look and have to start allover again! .And it would be nearly impossible for anyone with older eyes to use imo.So yeah im not really a fan of that,i do own it and i will use it because well it just cost way to much to just chuck it.But i dont know if i would ever purchase it again.Well perhaps when my skills are at a more advanced level i might

But my fav NARS product ever is my Nars e/s in Nepal,i can never be without! Its my perfect light shimmery but not too shimmery pink. On my lazy days just a wash of nepal and some mascara and my eyes are gorgeous.

The Nars products that I'm not such a fan of are their lipglosses, the lip tints, and their eye liners (if anyone has a idea to make them not smudge as much, please let me know).

But their blushes, loose powders, and eyeshadows are definitely my favorite over any brand.

I have soooo many MAC items, esp. e/s!! I pick up my small amount of Nars more. It does seem like the Nars line has more of those "I looked everywhere for a specific shade of x" or "I need a HG product that does x" types of products. So while I would love to own all of Nars, the few things I do have are perfect for me and get used everyday, if that makes sense. And considering Nars comes out being cheaper in the end, I find it hilarious that I own as much MAC as I do. MAC is good for certain things, but Nars is great too. In fact I only buy from these two lines (with the exception of foundation).

I hear you, yesterday, i tried to use the "Night Flight" eyeshadow (dark navy blue) over benefit's tattle tale (pearlish white cream eyeshadow)to brighten it up, instead of getting a blue colour, it turned out grey!!
and when used alone, it looked black; i stumbled upon your post after typing "nars" on the search engine, as i was wondering if i did something wrong, or if there is a different way of wearing the colour without changing it. I guess Nars is just not for me.

Actually hun, UDPP is a primer, which is used to help shadows last longer and prevent creasing. MAC's paintpots are bases, which are designed to enhance the eyeshadows true color and also prevent it from looking washed out. So actually she is doing the right thing by using both; a lot of people get confused with the difference between a primer and base. Yes, in most circumstances they should be used together. Just thought I'd clear that up

According to a NARS trainer who came to our spa, NARS' cream shadows are not cream-to-powder and do crease.

I agree they really aren't that much more expensive then a Mac shadow seeing as you get more product with a Nars eyeshadow plus they comes with little mirrors in them which mac shadows do not. From my experience Mac shadows just are ok to me I think they are a bit over-hyped and unfortunately they don't last very long on me even with a primer or base macs bare study PP they crease 3 quarters into the day my cheapy 88 color eyeshadow palette lasts longer on me then Macs shadows as crazy as that sounds. I absolutely love Nars shadows I think the colors are great, the packaging is great (Props for the little mirrors being in there) and I only use UDPP and they blend pretty well for me. I think it's worth the price as you get a generous amount of product and it's convenient to use as you can apply it right then and there with the mirror.
