Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
Overall Rating: 5
Price: 5
Packaging Quality: 5
Would you buy this product again? Yes!!! Forever and ever!
Omigah, WHY has this not been reviewed yet? This is for sure my HG face primer!
Yes, I realize it's by Monistat and is supposed to be for your bikini lines and other place where you shave. But guess what ladies? This can also be used as a face primer for your foundation! I've been using this for a few months, and have nothing but positive words! I have oily and sensitive/acne-prone skin, and this stuff hasn't made my break out! It's a clear gel, but once you rub it into your skin, it turns into a powdery finish. And it sort of smells a little like baby powder.
It really leaves your skin smooth and perfect for my liquid foundation. And it keep my face pretty matte (I hardly have to blot my face), but the best part is that my foundation stays fresh-looking and doesn't melt or move around throughout the day.
It's a perfect dupe for the Bare Escentuals Prime Time primer. I've heard that it's also a dupe for the Smashbox Photo Finish primer, but I've tried Smashbox and it's too wet/greasy for my face. So I definitely rate BE and Monistat higher than Smashbox, just IMO.
There have been a few ladies who reviewed this on YouTube and said that it gave them blackheads. However, if you completely remove your makeup properly and exfoliate regularly, you won't have a problem. It's important to not have any remaining makeup on when you go to sleep, as in any case. I use baby wipes from Target to remove my face makeup, extra virgin olive oil to remove my eye makeup, and use St. Ives Apricot Scrub to exfoliate my face...and I've had no breakouts or blackheads!
This can be found at any drugstore in the feminine hygiene aisle. It's so affordable, a tube is maybe $5, and will last you forever! I highly, highly, SUPER HIGHLY recommend this product!

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
so i dunno if i'm allowed to post this here but i have a question about this product.. does using a primer like this better protect you skin and help keep you from getting wrinkles bc it holds moisture in?.. bc i too got blackheads from this but im considering trying it again if it will help to protect my skin from aging

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
^^ Sorry for the late reply. I have no idea if it does anything for wrinkles. All I know is that I have RIDICULOUSLY oily skin and this stuff keeps my face matte all day. I love it. (I've been using it since December, and I haven't experienced any blackheads. Although, I DO exfoliate with St. Ives Apricot Scrub every night in the shower. Not sure if that makes a difference.) Also, I've heard that if you have oily skin, it means you're less prone to wrinkles.
I'm only 24 and don't have wrinkles, but I use Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Cream with Retinol and SPF as my moisturizer sometimes. It's never too late to start using anti-wrinkle stuff, IMO.
I think it can't hurt to try this stuff out. If it doesn't work, then you can always use it for your bikini line and elsewhere it's intended for. All I know is that there is a 40 page thread on how great this product is on tPF and over 200 reviews on MUA which mostly rave positive comments.

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
A primer's job is to even out your skin tone. For the Monistat Chafing Relief Gel, it is silicone based so it gives you an even, silky canvas that is perfect for applying foundation. However, don't replace this with your moisturizer. Always moisturize! I always use this and I love it! 5 stars!

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
It's funny - some of the cheaper products have become my go-to's for my face. I use jojoba oil as a moisturizer and the chafe relief gel as a primer! It IS by FAR the best primer I've ever used. My makeup stays in place better, it goes on incredibly evenly, and my t-zone doesn't look oily half-way through the day. Everything is nice and EVEN!

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
I too use Jojoba oil as a moisturizer and the anti-chaffing gel as my facial primer. These two working together keeps my face oil free and picture perfect. I have been using it since early 2008.

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
I've gotten so many friends to use this. It's better than any other primer I've ever used. The only primer that hasn't dried out my under-eye area either.

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
Stupid question: Where do I find this stuff?!
I've heard so many good things about it, but have never been able to find it in any drug stores. Which section would it be in? I've asked the pharmacist at a few places and just gotten weird looks

I thought I was losing it. I was like is someone reviewing a yeast infection cream? I thought that's all they made seriously because here in MD, all you see is Monistat-7, AnalEase, KY Jelly, tampons, maxi pads and douches in the feminine sections and half the time I'm handing the clerks boxes of twin pack douches that someone lifted a bottle out of. Yes, MD is that foul sometimes and no, before you ask, I'm not the one stealing the douches. XP
Guess I'll have to step outside my neck of the woods to find products like the one reviewed.

Re: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel
^ My name is Casey and I have a confession to make. I'm a cleptomaniac and steal douches from any pharmacy or store within a 30 mile radius to eliminate the odor of all males after they've run a on me. I know Specktra isn't the place to "come" clean but this is my chance at a FRESH start. I know what you guys are going to say....if I stick to just for the guys, there will be less of an odor. TIA but my therapist has already given me this same advice but thanks for even bothering. I'm in more ways than one.
Pretty soon Specktra will throw the at me or just plain anything I post. Better watch it cuz one day, I could see when I go to log in and what will I do then when I've made an error like buying Indian Ink? Begads! I would die!

I purchased Newly Minted with Purple Shower a few weeks ago. If they had an emoticon for head bowed down in shame, it would be used right now. It can only be described as a color that looks like the reason a woman would need to buy Monistat-7 in the first place. Light color, rancid and just an overall painful experience. I burn thinking about it. (Maybe in more places than one)

I would so pay $14.50 for a Golden Shower. Would probably be my fave of the year and it probably beats Chrome Yellow by a mile. Would probably go on silky smooth too.

Might beat Chrome Yellow if it's dry...but if there's a high water content, it'll be much lighter...you may not even be able to see it...
