Re: A day in the life of Sephora
Also, I thought of wearing ballet flats, but that's not a good idea either. They have hardwood floors and with ballet flats it'll be like walking in your bare feet all day. So painful!

A day in the Life of -
If you are in Color/Skin all day -
Get into work, put away your things, grab a headset (walkie) chit chat with whatever manager is in the back, put on the rest of your costume (jacket), check the lips and head to the floor. Radio to your DIC (Director in Charge) that are on the floor, await direction as to what zone you will be in. Greet customers, stock products, occassionally stop to dick around and play with crap (me), maybe toss out some shipment, listen to the DIC bitch about how crappy sales are, then go to lunch, and do the same thing til it's time to go home.
If you are a keyholder - same as above, only you wear a pin, and are the griper to everyone on the stage.
Can you tell I hated working for Sephora? LOL!

Re: A day in the life of Sephora
I actually love my job. It's hard work, especially now that it's christmas time in the city and I'm in a ritzy mall, but the people I work with are really fun and don't bitch like darkwater_soul has mentioned. Obviously it's going to differ from store to store, I hear bad things about the Sephora that is close to my house (thank god I didn't get hired at that one!) The customers seem to hate it, but the one I work at is always fun and playful, even when it's extremely busy so people gravitate towards our store more than the one where the employees seem to be miserable. You get trained on everything and get freebies a lot of the time and the discount doesn't hurt either!
Funny of the day for me was when someone got on the walkie to sing, "Twiggy Pop corn and I don't care, Twiggy Pop corn and I don't care." The customers had no idea why I was sitting at my register alone and laughing.

Honestly, pay wasn't bad... for a glorifed 3rd key (basically) I was paid 13.75 an hour, and I ALWAYS had 40 hours a week. The benefits were good, and if you were really passionate about fragrance, skincare or color you could try out for different things, like Encores (where you specialize, get to go to New York or San Fransisco for week and get a Master's Pin) or even Pro Team (but's it's HARD, I got to go to Houston to try out but got out first round.)

Re: A day in the life of Sephora
Let me add a few things -
It's not TERRIBLE, but it's not GREAT either. At my store we rarely did full consultations, so I rarely got to do makeup. I was also a manager, so I had to deal with bitchy customers and crap from the cast as well. I also had to do the non fun stuff, such as paperwork, visits from brands, hiring, interviews, stock, back office visits, and stuff like that. I maybe was on the selling floor helping clients about 3 hours a day. The gratis is GREAT (1000 $ or more a month since I was a manager) and from all different brands, plus if you make friends with an account exec. and sell thier stuff, they'll bring you goodies too ( and it helps to have names for down the road, that's how I get Ole He nriksen and Dior stuff now for free... friends in high places) and the trainings are great, and I got to go to Fragrance Encore and got my Certified Fragrance Sales Specialist (which is a national thing, I can take it anywhere). It's just retail, with slightly better perks, but managers deal with too much shit (being that they are still a new company in the US and thier internal trainings are shit). HTH better than my last rant, lol!

Re: A day in the life of Sephora
darkwatersoul, I have a question. Do you have daily and monthly goals like MAC? Each salesperson.?
How many hours do you need to work for insurance? Is it PPO or HMO?
Thanks in advance.

Re: A day in the life of Sephora
Sephora is currently on a nationwide hiring freeze. They are quietly cutting hours and laying people off. I imagine it won't let up until the summer.

I can attest to that. Unfortunately I was only hired on as a holiday person and even though my managers were told they would keep the temps til the end of January they were told the first week of Jan that they had to let us go on the 18th. I had less than 10 days to find something else. They wanted to hire me on as permanent, but unfortunately it looks like I'm screwed for a while. I cannot even begin to tell you how completely and utterly destroyed I am to finally know where I want to work only to find out that I have no chance of getting my job back until the economy picks back up. My store didn't even feel the effects of the bad economy, but unfortunately the higher offices feel the need to conserve, which I can understand, but at the same time it completely ruins me.
I'm scared as hell right now that I might not get my job back!
I'm sorry if I hijacked this thread, I tried not to so I'm creating another thread to vent.

You won't have any specific goals per person, persay, but a manager or DIC may give you an item goal (Like sell 5 blush brushes today) but the store has a goal, an items per transaction of 3, and a 50 dollar per sale goal. That is one of the cool things about it, is that... but be prepared to PUSH that Beauty Insider thing like nobody's business...
For insurance, it's a FT, so 32 hours or more a week.. and you have your choice of PPO or HMO... PPO IMO is better... not bad priced, and if you do the 401K option, after one year they price match your contributions up to 4 %.

Re: A day in the life of Sephora
Thanks Darkwatersoul!!
That was exactly what I needed to know.!!
It sounds great.
Beauty insider sounds easy to sign up people.
One last question..haha. ( I hope)
Do you have to start out on the bottom? Or can you come in as a makeup artist if you have experience?
