I had alot of fun working at Sephora when I was there. However, their discount stinks. They claim that, because it's not their product, they can't really discount it. But, they don't give better discounts on their own brand so.... I just became really good friends with the Asst. Mgr. and she always gave me tons of stuff! Good luck with the job!

Going to Apply to Sephora
I don't need a job, but I wanted to work at a makup store or counter this summer. I also want to build my kit up some more, so I figured the best place to work would be Sephora with their wide variety of products. I could use my employee discount and have a ball.
I am an aspiring makeup artist as well and I know this will give me that extra boost of confidence, working with many different faces. Also learning how to sell myself and the product.
Have any of worked for Sephora? Any advice? And what is the discount?
And whatever else you have to say..go ahead and say it ...lol

That is not good at all. I am going to look into some other counters as well then. Just to have options, when they all hire me I can decide where I want to go. lol I am a funny girl.

Look through this forum- there should be a thread from a while back about this very thing.
Sephora does have very strict policies regarding your appearance- be advised. Hair must be normal colored, no facial piercings, no more than two earrings per ear, no more than three rings per hand, nails must be manicured with a natural sheer, french, or american (red might be permitted too), you must wear a reddish tone of lipstick as part of your uniform, etc.

According to company policy, they are supposed to. Certain locations may be bending the rules, but that's what the written policy is.

Sounds too weird..can't be myself.
I just put in an application to Nordstroms cosmetic department. I think I want to work for any non Estee Lauder company. So like Nars or Laurier Mercier (sp)..something like that..Nars is going to be my first choice, when I go for interview.

So what's the pay like? Also how is Sephora working out for you Jenna?
I was thinking of applying there, than I heard all this cult like stuff and a sucky discount. I decided to pass up on it, last resort type thing.
Also, I don't wear foundation in my regular life, is it important to wear it to your interview?
Maybe I should create a thread with that question.

Congrats on being hired at Sephora! I just went for an interview elsewhere myself. I wasn't asked to stay, but I did get a call back for a second interview. Can anyone tell me if that's a good sign...or are they just unsure if they want to hire me? Thanks.

Sephora MAs?
I've heard back from Sephora that there will be one opening in Montreal, sometime in 2007.
I was wondering...does anyone here work for them? What sort of employment opportunities do they have for make-up artists?

i'm pretty sure the hiring process works like MAC's, in the respect that you're hired as a sales associate, not necessarily only for someone to do make up.

HELP! Interview with Sephora tommorrow!
SO basically, this is my first cosmetic job interview and I want to look like I know what I am doing, but not overdone. I unfortunatly have so much make and so little of stila, urban decay, etc. that sephora carries. What kind of look should I go in with?
I'm on the left...it's a bad picture because it was taken at the end of the day but you can get an idea of what I look like...any reccomendations are greatly appreciated.

I wore a gold/brown/bronze neutrally look. You'd be surprised how many of their employees don't even wear more than foundation/mascara/lipgloss to work. Just make sure that you look clean and professional, not too much color, but don't go in looking barefaced. If you're more drawn to being a "color expert" in the store, then wear a little bit of color, but if you're more of a skincare person, focus more on having a flawless looking canvas. good luck!

You can ask to be a Product Consultant in the "color world" (Sephora lingo: color = makeup/cosmetics, world = section). I work for Sephora part-time in Ontario, and there really isn't an official Makeup Artist position. Even though you've been hired to work in "Color" you can still find yourself working in skincare, fragrance, on cash, etc., if they need those areas covered. However, you can be assigned to work "chair time" where you perform consultations and do full makeup applications on a client. Chair time is usually rotated between consultants working in color. The better you are (application-wise and sales-wise), the more time you will get on chair time. But even if you don't get chair time, you always find yourself doing mini-demos on people anywhere on the floor.
If you have a bit more experience, you can apply as a Color Specialist, but that requires different and more extensive Sephora training.
I freelance on the side and I like working for Sephora. It gives me an opportunity to work with a lot of different faces (ages, shapes, ethnicities, etc.) and I get a lot of exposure to many different brands.

How well does Sephora pay? If you can't list exact, would you please give a ballpark figure?
