For the UK MAC fans....
I want to work at MAC in the local department store. Now, because most of this site is used by USA/Canada MAC fans I wanted to ask does anyone here work for a British Mac store, and can they tell me if the process is the same?

Thankyou!!

I'm not really sure what the US system is, but I got through the UK one. If you want to work for a dept store mac you will need to turn in a cv/cover letter and then you will hopefully get a interview. If that is successful you then have a demo on counter Good luck!

Re: For the UK MAC fans....
go to their job vacancy website. thats what i did and i passed the telephone interview.. but first make sure you know ur stuff, i took a couple of days to do research around specktra and other sites so make sure you research because they ask some tricky questions...
heres the site... Estée Lauder >> Retail Vacancies >> M·A·C

make sure u click on your region and see if theres jobs available... i went on the website everyday for about a year and found out in feb that there wa finally a job avail so i jumped at the chance to apply.
if theres not one available in ur area just keep checking and checking!

Which store do u want to work in?

I applied through the website as mentioned above. But ppl come to our counter and speak with the manager and approach it that way... depends on the size of the store i think sometimes...

Re: For the UK MAC fans....
Hi guys (first post ever, eeep).

In order to work for MAC in the UK, you need a make-up artistry qualification, don't you? What type do you need? Or is just any general make-up course okay?

Re: For the UK MAC fans....
As long as you can show that you can do it and you are professional with the right attitude you have a chance. I know artist who didn't do the courses and still got in. They just like to make sure you are the real deal x

Re: For the UK MAC fans....
Sounds like it differs region to region... I think they prefer it if you have done a course and/or are looking to do one - even better if its at a well recognised one.

but the only way to find out is try!!!

That confuses me, because when I asked at my local MAC store (the one in Liverpool - it's a shop, not a counter), they said you needed to be a make-up artist.

Now...I don't know what they mean by that!

Oh well, I'm set to do a make-up course in Ireland in a few months (when I actually have the money to pay for it!), so I'll ask them after I've done that.

Re: For the UK MAC fans....
When you go to a store and you ask for an application or you ask how to apply the first thing they will say is 'did you do a course, have you done a course'. Because that is the thing with mac. I know three people who work for mac who started out with zero experience in make up but lots of experience in retail. Personally I did not do a course because I didn't have enough money to do one, so I got a job on a make up counter and worked my butt off so that I had enough experience to get me through. But if you have some freelance experience and a good personality and retail experience of some sort you have a chance. There is a waiting list for a lot of people to apply. Two of the girls I work with were on a waiting list for over four months before they got employed. If you are really serious about working for Mac then try and get on the waiting list. Apply through Estée Lauder >> Retail Vacancies >> M·A·Cand see what happens. Generally we get so so so many people bringing in cvs that if they don't have the experience/courses they don't get through. But if I can do it...

Do you need like a portfolio in the uk? I'm thinking of handing my CV into the MAC counter here, should I take along a few pics and put them in with it?

Thanks
