The HD Movement!
There is a new movement afoot in the cosmetic industry to address and embrace the growing high-definition (HD) media technologies. As more and more media outlets are turning to HD, the makeup industry is responding with bases, foundations and powders that provide a smooth, soft-focus, airbrushed appearance to the face. All of this is extremely welcomed, as HD media takes the camera to the very depths of your pores, giving you a feeling of exposure that you haven’t felt since your last pap smear.

Re: The HD Movement!
Very interesting post. Thanks. I hope MAC will follow up on this trend.
And I hope the products really deliver what they promise. A few years back you had E. Lauder, Clinique and Lancome coming out with "self-adjusting" pigments. but somehow it didn't quite deliver. The color was great, but the coverage was just a bit low esp. for photography. Hopefully with all these new pigments there will be some real breakthroughs around the corner. I'm thinking Mac foundation with the power of strobe cream and beauty powders combined. .. hehe that's just asking too much

Re: The HD Movement!
The TV station I work at went high def last year. We were all worried...a makeup artist was brought it and much to our amazement, our daily makeup application is far less than what it used to be (however, for the guys, it's a little longer). The only difference was blending - making sure there were no harsh lines...putting makeup on your ears and down your neck and chest. The days of wearing a foundation darker than your skin tone is long gone...
I've been able to get away with wearing lipgloss (seeing as my lips get really dried out) and it doesn't look that harsh on camera. The more natural you look in person with your makeup on - the better you will look in high def (before with standard television, we would have to layer on the eyeshadow and blush - this doesn't fly anymore).
Even though I was worried in the beginning, I'm glad we went high def. Now people aren't coming up to me and saying, "My gosh, you look so much prettier in person than you do on tv." (Which really isn't a compliment, even though they mean it as such.) Now, they're saying, "With high def TV, you look the same on camera as you do in person."
One thing that will stand out that's more of an issue than the makeup with high def, is the hair fly-aways. Blondes seem to have a harder time with this than brunettes. The only thing we've had to do is use more product without making the hair look greasy. Overall, high definition TV is a blessing!
In case you're wondering...I still get away with wearing MAC foundations. I've used Studio Tech with a light dusting of Studio Fix for years. When the makeup artist was brought in and we flipped the high def camera on...she was impressed at how great these MAC foundations looked. On the Pro website, there is a type of airbrush foundation...haven't tried it. Probably won't seeing as the results I've achieved are fine. Any questions - please feel free to write!

Re: The HD Movement!
I am so excited about this! This is something I have been looking for, for a very long time. I love the natural flawless look especially in person. To be able to look at someone (or people look at you) and see such a polished, perfect complexion sounds to good to be true.

I've been using Graftiban HD foundation for myself and in photoshoots. It's flawless.

Re: The HD Movement!
I have been working in Hi-Def now for over a year and what I have discovered is it is mostly about the artistry -- the blending, etc., you really have to pay more attention to detail. I am not so sure that a product will solve the woes of a bad make-up artist. I don't airbrush the face because I hate the fact that the touch-up is close to impossible and on a film "set" touching up with an airbrush is a big no, no. If you can get your actress/actor back in the trailer then great, but most of the time you touch up on set. Wardrobe hates them, hair, etc., so I use all the normal foundation products on the face and save the airbrushing for body make-up. I will probably check out the products listed just to see what I think, but for the most part -- HD isn't that scary.
