I don't think MAC can do anything about this, other than putting a limit on how many products you can order from them.

It's more annoying that people actually buy them! Why would they stop selling on ebay when it's obviously so worth it for them?
angry.gif
As long as there is demand, sadly...
And as long as it's profitable, ebayers will make sure to find other ways around the restrictions that MAC is trying to enforce more strictly now.
yup thats the sad thing!!! many of her buyers bought them from her when they were all still available on the webiste to be purchased at retail!!!

i ordered 3 of each and they said it was against their polices blah blah blah blah!!!!!! i love how they email me with the cancellation AFTER CYY sells out instead of before!!
I think something fishy was going on last night because you have the lipsticks up then hide them and people have toget to it with a link then put them back out.

Maybe they were monitoring the purchases and were freaked out when all the Specktralites descended onto the site en mass the instant they were released.
MAC went "WHOA!! TAKE THEM OFF, HIDE THEM! THEY'RE SELLING TOO FAST!"

I'm putting the blame on Mac yes it's wrong for ebayers to sell at crazy prices, but Mac knows how many people voted for these le products it's not the first time this lipstick came out. Mac knows people will buy multiples and back ups and the demand for this product is crazy high.Mac knows this is online exclusive only not sold in stores why the hell is this product not stocked enough? And I find it fishy to sell these products then it disappears and everyone has to use a link to get to it then put it back out.

Yaay!!  My lippies have shipped :)  and I paid with PayPal!!  I was so nervous after reading all the posts of PayPal acting up... I only wanted the lipsticks from this collection, but I look forward to stalking for the rest of you and continuing the ordering fun! (Though honestly, I am still not fully comfortable about my purchase until they are in my hands and are the correct lipsticks and are not melted... due to the Cali heatwave) THEN, I will rest at ease!  :)
I used PayPal and overnight shipping. My order should be here by 3pm tomorrow

I placed 2 orders - one for myself and a CP. I got standard free shipping for both. The CP order shipped while my order is still pending. I expect to get a shipping notice for my order later today, so it'll probably arrive by Friday. Nothing out of the norm.

I mean to say this with the best intentions, but Specktra itself could easily be to blame, too. We're posting on an internet forum for everyone to see, not just members of the site. We give each other the information to help one another out, but for every set of eyes that belongs to a member, there's oodles of other people reading the threads. I was looking on Instagram last night and many were posting that the collection was available and that they found out from Specktra. This also cues other eyes, maybe ebay buyers, too. The internet is a great thing and full of information, at the same time that information reaches unlimited number of people. The biggest issue is that MAC accounts are only tied to an e-mail address, rather than a residential address. With places like gmail, yahoo, hotmail, you can create limitless accounts for any number of reasons. It's simply difficult and damn near impossible to traffic all different accounts and put an end to how many orders are placed (and I'm talking from the non-PRO section. PRO at least is tied to loyalties and membership, whereas a regular MAC account is just basic). Even if 10 accounts on MAC belong to one person, their system recognizes all 10 accounts as separate customers. There's the ebay loophole, which shouldn't really be MAC's fault at all, but rather the servers they're using for account information. Joe Schmoe could have 10 separate accounts and credit cards, and MAC would have no idea, it's not until Joe Schmoe places more than one order on the same account, using the same credit card, that it's flagged as being against MAC's online purchase policies.

I think this may have just been a tech issue for the disappearing link instead of shenanigans on MAC's part. The link may have been visible only for them to set everything up and to make sure everything is working properly on the website, but they weren't yet ready for the hordes of orders that started rushing in. So they probably just took it down so they could finish their work. The other alternative would be for them to disable the website completely while they update it to avoid what happened last night with the disappearing link, but that wouldn't be practical on their end.

Yeah the hype get s hyped up even more online it's crazy. Mac better do something about it I hope. They should've sold it in stores too, but who knows how that would turn out. Probably would look like black friday.

You can't control other people. You can only control yourself. Unfortunately, people will abuse things to their advantage. Spektra is meant to share the joys of makeup and any information relating to it. There are some who will take that information and misuse it, but I don't think Spektra can be blamed for the greedy intentions of others. In other words, "With great power comes great responsibility." Lol, just trying to lighten things up a bit.

Ok I see what your saying maybe that's why a lot of people got screwed up. Even with all the technology we have now with the Internet it's not perfect and on these le items shouldnt just be online only. I hope Mac does something about it.

True. Making the collection available in stores, or at least allowing for restocks, would definitely help. It makes me wonder just how many quantities were made. CYY had about 78K votes. If they made like 500K in anticipation of its popularity and it *still* sold out in less than 24 hours... I'm not sure what else can be done. They can't make infinite stock. But we'll never know the actual numbers. Either way, I'm still curious to see how they address the problem.

Ugh, I don't know why I'm still up. I think I'm just rambling at this point.

Very wise words, CartoonChic! All's we can do is keep on keepin' on for the reason we came here: for the love of makeup

The hype is artificially created because it is LE. If these items were permanently available or in larger quantities (to last a few weeks), people would certainly buy less and/or wait, and then get drawn in by other collections. From that perspective, it is certainly true to state that MAC's approach is in their best business interest. Even the increased prices on eBay will help MAC as this just creates more hype. While this screws over a lot of customers, they can and will continue this practice as the brand is currently so popular. I'm not saying that this is fair or right, but I just want to explain their marketing strategy (which certainly works very well for them).
