    Pores seeping blood?

Alright, I have a freaky story to tell. Today, I was testing out a new foundation (Studio Tech, if you want to know), and everything was good until a fellow artist started noticing red dots popping up all over my face. After much freaking out, it turns out the red dots were actually little deposits of blood that were leaking out of my pores.

Now, I want to know if this was an allergic reaction or if I'm going to die? Flesh eating virus? God, I really hope not. Either way, I'm going to the dermatologist to get this checked out.

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

That sounds awful. I feel for you. I have no clue what it could be, but it's best to get it checked out.

And keep us posted. Hopefully it's just an allergy.

you are probably experiencing an allergic reaction. allergies often occur immediately or shortly after when in contact with irritants. wash your face off, get it checked out and never touch the stuff again!!

i get itchy hives when i vaccum cuz of all the dust or when im cleaning dusty things

What ingredient could POSSIBLY cause that? What's up MAC? That is just too...off. Way off.

Bring the list of ingredients to the doc and please provide an update on WHAT caused that.

I've never been a fan of MAC foundation b/c I'm "sensitive" and my skin can get "irritated", but an allergic rxn like that? WOAH.

Make sure your doctor test you for "Porphyria" In the meantime keep your face cool, rinse it under very cold water until you get to see the doctor. Hope all is well. Keep us updated.

I would love to know what the derm said. I have read of this condition, but was of the impression it only happens to men-its called hematidrosis (or hemohidrosis). Many theorize that Jesus exhibited symptoms of it in Gethsemane.

Definately contact mac corporate when you find out what exactly it is. My skin does not agree with any of mac's foundations or powders, i just get cystic acne. If enough people complain though, they will most likely reformulate and test more. I know a lot of people that swear by mac's other products but stear clear of their foundations.

She never said she had free flowing blood leaking out of her pores. She said they were little deposits of blood "from her pores".

They are petechiae, and commonly occur with an allergic reaction, a variety of illnesses that have nothing to do with cosmetics, and also from vomiting forcefully during pregnancy as an example. Discontinue the product and see a doc. Petechiae aren't anything to worry about per se, the are temporary, but you should have alternate explanations ruled out, such as a disorder or illness. Considering the only time this has happened to her was immediately after using a new product on her face, occam's razor would suggest allergic reaction.

Woah. Everytime my husband vomits, he gets those. They just look like a rash though. I'm gonna have to tell him what it is now!

Yeah the blood spots are petechiae, which are tiny bursts in the capillaries of the face and eyes, from allergies, disease, or forceful vomiting, and strangulation.

With vomiting and coughing, it's just a result of the force imposed on the facial capillaries and they go away after a short time.

The clear fluid leaking is serous fluid, typical drainage that comes out of "boo-boo's" large and small. This is an influx of inflammatory products in your body that react to a perceived threat or actual damage and rush to the scene to start repairing. If your skin is sensitive, it wouldn't take much to trigger this reaction, which is like an allergic reaction, but sounds like you also get sores. I would really try to keep your face free of product other than gentle soap and moisturizer until it clears up.

Two products I can recommend for treating the skin once it's reacted. 1) Roc Purif-ac Soothing reparator, this was recommended to me when I had a chemical burn from a retinoid cream, and it was a godsend. Keeps the moisture in and reduces the flaky dead skin. 2) Biotherm Aftersun, this stuff rocks to sooth really pissed off skin.

As for foundations, I think Vichy and La Roche Posay have good foundations for sensitive skin, but I have no personal experience with them. Ultimately, I would wait till you have a diagnosis and recommendation from a doc who has actually seen your problem, but if you're desperate, inquire about those products.

    Re: Pores seeping blood?

Keep a log of what you're putting on your face and when it seems to react. I would suggest a referral to an allergist and/or dermatologist to help you narrow down the offending ingredients and to get recommendations on suitable products.

Also, put any product that you suspect has given you a reaction in a separate pile. Log them, and find out the ingredients of each. You may find common denominators that will give you clues to what your skin doesn't like. Isolate these products ie; don't use them, but some of the suspected ones may not actually be harmful, they just happened to be on your face at the same time as the offending product. You can do spot testing too behind your ear or under your jaw, just one product every couple of days to see if it reacts.

While you're waiting to be seen, hit up your pharmacist and ask them what skin care routine they would suggest for extremely sensitive skin. There are a lot of additives in soap and moisturizer that sensitive skin can't handle, so they may have some recommendations.

But yeah, if this is a recurrent problem, you'll need to see a doc and bring them a list of the products/ingredients that you suspect you react to. There are cosmetic lines out there that cater to sensitive skin, mac is probably not one of them, but if you know the ingredients that offend your skin, that's half the battle right there, so you can make informed decisions about the products you choose to buy.

    Wtf.
Er, isn't Porphyria a disease that's passed down from parents?
If she had it, I bet she would've known about it a long time ago.
And, isn't Porphyria like, some weird obsession with blood?
Like, they have to drink/consume it, or they go crazy and die?

No, Porphyria is the name given to a range of hereditary or acquired enzyme disorders in the porphryrin pathway it's not specifically the "Vampire disease"

It's like viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHF's) can be nephropathia epidemica,Typhoid, Dengue & Ebola. All fall into that category. All different viruses with similar symptoms but differing severity from mild to sever.
Just using that example as my hubby is getting over a bout of dengue now, lol.

So as the say in Thailand, "Same, Same but different"

this could be what they call "rare ploys" ask your DR. for a pore culture. it could be a skin flora.... ask about cocci clusters. I hope it's not that shit!!!!!
