First a background, I maintain a huge Excel file that tracks everything about my makeup spending habits. Price, date, weight, description, where I bought it etc etc. I feed all this "raw data" into a pivot table that gives me some interesting stats about my stash I thought you might enjoy:

Total weight of actual makeup product excluding packaging: 17.5lbs
Most expensive item I've purchased: #131 brush
Number of makeup brands I've purchased from: 99

Amount spent on makeup in US$ (yikes!):
'05: $45 (ah those were the days)
'06: $400 (after my sister in law got me addicted to lipglasses)
'07: $2.4K (the addiction begins)
'08: $3.5K (it worsens)
'09: $4K (holy crap I spend too much on makeup)

Value of makeup I've used up/given away/lost/shattered: $1.9K (sigh!)

My favorite MAC items and what I've spent on them....(double yikes!)
Eye shadows: $1,374
Blushes: $794
MSFs: $632
Lipglass: $494

Breakdown of the kind of makeup I own:
Eye shadows: 23%
Skincare/Raw Ingredients: 16%
Tools (like brushes): 15%
Lip products: 13%
Nail polish: 12%
Eye Liners/Mascara: 11%
Face products: 10%

Fragranced makeup: 69% of my makeup is unscented, followed by vanilla, tropical, rose, and floral scents. I also have a few items that unwittingly smell like butter, BBQ sauce, dust, and pickles (and this is when I bought them brand-new, not due to spoilage).

Where I buy make up:
24% from department store counters
14% from freestanding stores
14% from drugstores
11% from online purchases
9% from warehouse sales
7% from multi-brand cosmetics stores like Sephora
5% from airport duty-free

Brand origins of my makeup:
North America: 66% (mostly MAC!)
Japan: 11%
Europe: 9%
Local Singapore brands: 7%

How I've slowly expanded beyond my love of MAC, as evidenced by the percentage I spend on it:
'05: 100%
'06: 86%
'07: 75%
'08: 30%
'09: 22%

Texture of my makeup items:
Pressed powders: 23%
Creams: 14%
Loose powders: 12%
Liquids: 10%
Glosses: 9%
Gels: 7%
Solids: 6%
Baked powders: 6%

There's more, but I'll stop boring you now

I can relate. I keep mine in Access database. I would love to know how to do it in Excel.

I can't even keep my room clean for more than a week, let alone keep an Excess file on makeup!
Well done

omg are you kidding!? if you have no problem with access and making a database, excel is a piece of cake!!!! picture tables, just tables.. no ID's, no relationships, no switching back and forth to design view.... and more...
