My thoughts on MAC Cosmetics Antiquitease: Finery

By Janice on November 9, 2007

Every year MAC Cosmetics releases lips sets for the holidays, with this years theme of “ornate excess” we have an over abundance of lip products to choose from. Of the Holiday sets for ’07, the one that captivated the eye of this seasoned MAC addict were the Finery lip bags.

A total of four trios are presented in an adorable gold or silver clutches, each clutch contains 2 shades of lipstick and a coordinating lipglass. I can’t say I have witnessed (in my time) the company put together better color combinations than those contained in Finery. I’m quite confident these are going to be among the most popular holiday items this year.

Antiquitease: Finery Tan
Tan

  • High Tea – Beige with white pearl (Lustre)
  • Haughty – Warm chocolate brown (Frost)
  • Honorable (Lipglass) – glossy neutral light pink with gold pearl

The standout from Finery: Tan is Honorable lipglass, a light, neutral, airy gold pearl (with a hint of pink) this lipglass is a universal shade. I think Dark Darling Divas will find especially flattering over Haughty or Chestnut Lip Pencil. Haughty Lipstick is a deep chocolate brown, there’s no reason to fear this brown shade! If you’re very fair simply layer Honorable lipglass for a lighter look. High Tea is a popular shade that was once LE and later, after it’s sucess in the market, introduced into the permanent lineup. A nude “your lips but better”, High Tea is pearly neutral beige that works with most complexions. My lip liner suggestion for this set is Subculture pencil.

Antiquitease: Finery Coral
Coral

  • Aristo-Chic – Warm Creamy Peach (Lustre)
  • Ruling Class – Pink Bronze with Silver Pearl (Frost)
  • Splendid! (Lipglass) – Rich Peach with white pearl

The Coral Finery set is my personal choice from Antiquitease: Finery. A lovely combination of peach and warm corals MAC is showing us that we shouldn’t be afraid of playing with color on the pout. Splendid lipglass is a bright peach, a bit on the pink side and applies thick and opaque like Prrr. Aristo-Chic is a standout among the Coral crowd, described as a warm creamy peach this Lustre has high wearability for all complexions. To add warmth and define your pucker as well as assist the Lustre shade to last longer , I suggest Creme Sherry Cremestick lip liner. Ruling Class is a unique pinkish brown, a bit on the frosty side, but an excellent Coral selection for the Captivating Caramel Cuties in the audience.

Antiquitease: Finery Pink
Pink

  • Snob Appeal – Frosted midtone pink with white pearl (Frost)
  • Blueblood – Creamy blue pink (Lustre)
  • Gentility (Lipglass) – Neutral peach with gold pearl

Gentility lipglass is another standout among the crowd of products in this collection. The light peach shade and the shimmer of the gold pearl lends a juicy and ripe appearance to your lips. If you’re not a fan of frost then don’t let Snob Appeal make the approach to your lips, this lipstick takes frost to a whole new level. Fortunately for me, and possibly for you, I LOVE FROSTY FROSTS! :D Blue Blood lipstick is a medium pink, and the Lustre finish assures high shine. My lip liner suggestion for this set is Honey B. Cremestick liner

Antiquitease: Finery Plum
Plum

  • Ultra Madame – Muted pinky brown (Glaze)
  • Culture Class – Deep plum with gold pearl (Frost)
  • Contessa (Lipglass) – Silver pink with silver sparkles

Contessa is a nice true plum lipglass (which there aren’t enough of in the regular lineup), my personal opinion is Contessa is unique and pretty enough to be added to the permanent line! Culture Class lipstick is the standout shade of this trio, a bedazzling fusion of apricot plum it has just the right amount of golden frost. Ultra Madame is pretty, but unremarkable. Lip liner suggestion for Finery: Plum is Plum Royale Cremestick liner.
