J Lo My Glow
Good news for lovers of Jennifer Lopez’s GLOW fragrance, a new version is being released this fall…
“For Jennifer Lopez now is the most perfect moment in her life. Poised between pride in the past and promise for the future, she feels fulfilled as never before. Her spirit is soothed with serenity, her heart overflowing with tenderness. There is no deeper love, no greater happiness than this. No words can describe it, but a fragrance can capture it.”
MY GLOW
a feminine, skin floral fragrance
A truly intimate fragrance.
Delicate notes of Lavender, Peony and Skin Musk
create a subtle, yet fresh scent.
Top: Lavender Flower, Water Lily, Freesia
Mid: White Rose, Wet Leaves, Peony, Casablanca Lily
Base: Skin Musk, Milky Sandalwood, Precious Woods, Heliotrope
Sounds intriguing, I think. I’ve never worn any of her perfumes, but freesia, white rose, and peony are there of my favorite scents, and the musk/sandalwood combination thrown in sounds like it would smell sweet and soft and feminine.
Available at www.hsn.com, HSN, JCPenney, Kohl’s, and Sears in October 2009.
Vera Wang – Rock Princess
If the original Princess fragrance is meant to be a delicate, feminine, girly, innocently demure scent, Rock Princess is that girl’s bad ass sister. You know the one I’m talking about…skinny jeans and 4″ heels on her boots with too many bracelets, a lowslung belt, and a loose tank top. Her liner’s black and winged, and her hair’s probably got a chunk of purple, pink, or red in it somewhere. She’s the sister you meet and you just know…she won’t take mess off anyone.
This goes on rather heavy, and the initial whiff is intoxicating. It’s sweet, and (for me) it just gets sweeter. I get the peach, the raspberry, and the jasmine almost immediately…and it’s heady and sexy and very…kinda dark glam.
Poetic, Original, Dramatic, and Sultry.
Each verse is equally important. Vera Wang Rock Princess is a dark, fruity floral with sultry rock star attitude and hip, modern style. Performing on a shadowy, spot lit stage, this dark, fruity, floral scent opens with an exhilarating intro of succulent white peach, lush bittersweet red raspberry and the lluminating flash of vibrant bergamot. The chorus reveals itself in lovely layers of ultra-feminine florals. Hypnotic heliotrope, vintage-inspired rose, night-blooming jasmine, delicate lily and the unexpected riff of sharp, spicy floral notes. And for an unforgettable bridge, Rock Princess is cloaked in the warm and sensual glow of plush cashmere woods, smoldering musk, elegant iris and creamy coconut.
Some people say that because this fragrance is so sweet, Rock Princess smells like it would be more suited to a young girl…but I have found that a couple of hours into wearing it, Rock Princess smells…creamy musky and maybe a teensy bit fruity. It’s not, by that point, little girlish at all, but quite womanly and sexy.
I wouldn’t recommend this as a day time perfume, and it’s probably too heavy for office wear (it’s powerful…not always a bad thing but maybe not appropriate in a cubicle farm)…just because it IS quite heavy. But for night? When I want to wear some bangin’ heels and let my hair down? Yeah. Perfect.
Daisy by Marc Jacobs
I can’t hear the word ‘daisy’ without immediately flashing in my mind to Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday saying, “You’re a daisy if you do” in that movie Tombstone, from the 90s. Totally one of my guilty pleasures.
I can say that Daisy ($57) (the Marc Jacobs edition, not the Val Kilmer edition) is a true pleasure, and not a guilty one. I’ve wanted, for a long time, to try this fragrance. I have a picky nose, so I hate walking into any store that has perfumes stacked all atop one another because the scents mix and mingle and make me sneeze…that’s my excuse for dallying so long in adding this to my collection.
Short story? I love it. It’s delicate, feminine, and sexy in that…honestly the best way I can describe the sexiness is the Sunday morning standing in the kitchen with the sunlight shining through the window while you’re wearing his button up shirt and your hair’s all rumpled then you get a little half smile when you realize the sleeves are a little too long, but who cares because you took his shirt when you slipped out of bed this morning…that kind of sexy. Nothing naughty, just sunny and sweet and feminine and soft.
I’ve mentioned before that my chemistry makes any perfume I use smell even sweeter than it may already be designed to be so I’m always a little hesitant about the way I’m going to smell after a couple of hours…but Daisy doesn’t become cloyingly sweet. I can’t taste it on the back of my tongue and don’t feel like I’m leaving fume trails every where I go.
Top: Wild strawberry, violet leaves, ruby red grapefruit
Mid: Gardenia, violet petals, jasmine petals
Base: Vanilla infusion, white wood, musk
Initially, the violet and grapefruit are kind of lost on me, except that the grapefruit makes the first hour or so have a bit tangier scent. Strawberries are my weakness, but they’re not overpowering. After the scents have had time to warm up and mix with my chemistry, the gardenia & jasmine mix well with the white wood and musk to give me a soft, sweet smelling, girly smell. Something I really like, particularly in my work environment.
Of course, the bottle is adorable. The flowers are green on the sticker edition, which is was what sent to me. I think normally they’re white.
The only quibble I have is that since it’s an EDT, the fragrance isn’t as long lasting as I would like…but it gets a pass, because it’s an EDT. As I understand, the EDP has a much better staying power.
Marc Jacobs Summer Splash 2009
Summer for me always smells like citrus, storms, and salad. I’m so not kidding. Well, it also smells like brisket, beer, and small explosive devices, but that’s just really 4th of July at my family’s house…anyyyywayyy…there are just certain smells that hit me and really make me inhale deeply and say “God. THAT. That is what summer smells like to me.”
Marc Jacobs Summer Splash 2009 collection was designed with summer in mind…to capture the casually vibrant lazy hazy days that we all love so much. This year Marc Jacobs has introduced the Lemon Splash, and brought back the perennially popular Cucumber and Rain splashes.

Lemon Splash immediately captured my heart. Anything that smells like lemons with a touch of sweetness is going to give me pause…simply because that’s what I love so much. I like the initial tang and the sweet follow up…it makes me think of lemonade, but for my nose. Initially, I smell lemon and mint…which is perfectly fine because I love lemon and mint…but then once it’s dried down and ‘set’ I get the sweet smell of honeysuckle and cotton musk. My skin loves to make perfumes smell MUCH sweeter than they actually are, but this never becomes cloying.

Cucumber Splash is fresh…very fresh…with cucumber and cactus flower top notes. As soon as I spray this on, I want to run outside in the sprinklers and then eat a red rocket pop. The freesia really goes well with my chemistry and this splash, just like the Lemon, sweetens up on me. Of the three Splash scents, this is probably the most crisp and watery fresh.

Rain Splash reminds me of living in lowcountry Georgia. Every afternoon, we would get showers. They’d only last an hour or two, lots of times even less, but they left the air smelling sweet and wet. Rain’s mix of wet cut grass, strawberry, and clementine zest give way to a very warm tree musk and beech amber. Rain doesn’t sweeten on me quite the way Lemon and Cucumber do, but it’s still a very feminine scent upon drydown.
All three splashes come in huge square 10 oz bottles.
Stella McCartney | Sheer Summer
I love Stella McCartney’s Stella perfume. Never too heavy and always deliciously redolent of roses. Stella has a new, fresh take on her signature scent for the summer with ‘Sheer Summer’.

Like the original Stella, the top note is rose, but you will also catch delicate whisps of lemon, green apple and amber in ‘Sheer Summer’. Very light and fresh. I absolutely loved it! Give it a spritz during your next haul.
Isn’t that bottle design to die for?
Price: $58.00USD/3.3oz
Available: Nordstrom, Nordstrom.com, Sephora and Sephora.com
