Marc Jacobs Summer Splash 2009
Summer for me always smells like citrus, storms, and salad. I’m so not kidding. Well, it also smells like brisket, beer, and small explosive devices, but that’s just really 4th of July at my family’s house…anyyyywayyy…there are just certain smells that hit me and really make me inhale deeply and say “God. THAT. That is what summer smells like to me.”
Marc Jacobs Summer Splash 2009 collection was designed with summer in mind…to capture the casually vibrant lazy hazy days that we all love so much. This year Marc Jacobs has introduced the Lemon Splash, and brought back the perennially popular Cucumber and Rain splashes.

Lemon Splash immediately captured my heart. Anything that smells like lemons with a touch of sweetness is going to give me pause…simply because that’s what I love so much. I like the initial tang and the sweet follow up…it makes me think of lemonade, but for my nose. Initially, I smell lemon and mint…which is perfectly fine because I love lemon and mint…but then once it’s dried down and ‘set’ I get the sweet smell of honeysuckle and cotton musk. My skin loves to make perfumes smell MUCH sweeter than they actually are, but this never becomes cloying.

Cucumber Splash is fresh…very fresh…with cucumber and cactus flower top notes. As soon as I spray this on, I want to run outside in the sprinklers and then eat a red rocket pop. The freesia really goes well with my chemistry and this splash, just like the Lemon, sweetens up on me. Of the three Splash scents, this is probably the most crisp and watery fresh.

Rain Splash reminds me of living in lowcountry Georgia. Every afternoon, we would get showers. They’d only last an hour or two, lots of times even less, but they left the air smelling sweet and wet. Rain’s mix of wet cut grass, strawberry, and clementine zest give way to a very warm tree musk and beech amber. Rain doesn’t sweeten on me quite the way Lemon and Cucumber do, but it’s still a very feminine scent upon drydown.
All three splashes come in huge square 10 oz bottles.

MAC | Baby Blooms Collection

The MAC promo pic we speculated about when it first surfaced on Specktra.net around Jan of 2008 finally has a collection attached to it, Baby Blooms. The Baby Blooms collection contains the new Studio Moisture Tint SPF15 Tinted Moisturizer and Suntints SPF20 Liquid Lip Balm.
Click “Read More” below for additional details and images….

I know a lot of us, including me, have been waiting for the Studio Moisture Tint since we first got wind of it in our Specktra forums back in early 2008. MAC has obviously put the time and effort into getting this one just right. After MAC’s impressive success with Studio Sculpt foundation and concealer, I am so excited to get my hands on this.

The second of the two new products is the Suntints SPF20 Liquid Lip Balm. SPF20…yay! These have the texture of Clinique’s Colour Surge gloss, but are much more sheer. These are very moisturizing.
Due out on 30 Jun, you are set for sunny July and August!
What do you guys think?
Review | Stila ‘Mango Crush’ Lip and Cheek Stain – Swatches + Pics
For those of you who have serious crushes on Stila’s Cherry Stain and Pomegranate Stain, there’s a new crush in town…..Mango Crush Lip and Cheek Stain.

(Click “Read More” below for further info, swatches, and pics)….
This is summer in a tube. The colour somehow manages to be a great compliment to both yellow and pink undertoned-skin. You see red, yellow, orange and pink within Mango Crush. It is a really adaptable colour. Aside from the hot summer colour, the formula contains a subtle shimmer that looks really natural on the lips and helps make the lips look dewy and full, without being over the top. It gives the effect of just-licked lips. If you want to amp up ‘Mango Crush’, add a Stila’s 24 Karat Gold gloss over the top.

This is fantastic on the apples of the cheeks, as well. It gives a great glow from within. A word of caution though. One of the great aspects of this product is its staying powder, however that can go horribly wrong if you slip up whilst applying the blush. You can avoid this by working with small amounts of the stain and gradually building the colour. Start applying it at the center of the apple of your cheek, then work it out in a circular motion. You can also practice applying it to the back of your hand first to see how it performs.
The Mango Crush Lip and Cheek stain have the same tube and brush applicator that Cherry and Pomegranate have. Just give the tube a twist and colour will push up into the brush.

Some of the health benes? Mango Crush contains genuine extracts of its namesake fruit. The long lasting formula is high in anti-oxidants and formulated with Vitamin A, C & E to protect skin while adding moisture. Does that mean I can count it as one of my required daily servings of fruits and veggies? No? Not so much?
The Mango Crush stain is available this May at StilaCosmetics.com, Sephora and Sephora.com. It will retail for $24.00USD.
Smashbox | Untamed Collection

I think that most of us can say we have a few pieces of Smashbox in our traincases. From their ubiquitous face primers to their enticing glosses and shadows, there are some really fantastic finds in the line. I personally worship their lipgloss in ‘Capture’, which is a truly unique colour and finish.
I am really taken by Smashbox’s first offering of the season, the Untamed collection. It perfectly fits so many of our approaches towards makeup as the temperature starts to rise. We tend to pare down and reach for the basics. The beauty of this collection is that it makes doing that so easy. Just a few choices, but each one is exactly what you need to feel connected to and prepared for the season.

Review | Stila Charmed Palette

I have a great appreciation for the beauty of Indian art. I also have an affinity to the stellar products that Stila perpetually whips up. So this particular palette sent me swooning.
The Charmed palette from Stila’s upcoming Indian Summer collection is a must-have. The colours are rich, deep and highly pigmented. Asided from the options they provide, the texture is to die for. It is like velvet, like butter, like…it’s amazing. (Click “Read More” below for further info, swatches and pics)….

With a great range of cool and warm colours, everyone is covered. The standout colour for me is the rich blue with subtle gold undertones. The deep purple colour provides a great smokey eye or depth in the crease.

The limited edition Charmed palette will retail for $22.00USD and will be available in May at Sephora, Sephora.com and StilaCosmetics.com.

Get the look for less – Sexy Summer Sandals
I’ve mentioned the heat in Texas numerous times…there’s an old joke that we have two seasons here…Hot, and Summer, with Summer feeling like you’re living in the lower bowels of Hades. Needless to say, I’m not about to wear more than I absolutely have to, including on my feet. I love sexy sandals…but I also love keeping ahold of my money!
So, with budget concerns in mind, when I saw these on Piperlime.com :

I immediately went off in search of a more wallet friendly pair. Sure, they’ll run $50, and shipping and returns are free, but that’s not the point. The point is I want something comparable, but cheaper.
Enter these:

from OldNavy.com. At $19.50, they’re less than half the price, and the style is similar enough to make me happy. Old Navy also has them in an assortment of colors, from pretty white, to a super sexy pewter.
Either style, the splurge or the spendthrift, is going to be perfect for this year. Flirty, fun, and comfortable. yay!
Now…to schedule a pedi…
