Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

yup Bette Middler is a great suggestion

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

The first movie I was actually obsessed with when I was a kid was "Hocus Pocus". Bette Midler and SJP were in it.
A Bette Midler collection would be interesting.

I for one would LOVE to see her or another bollywood actress represent us Indian chicks for MAC. Unfortunately Aishwarya works or Loreal, the competitor and it would never happen

Eva Mendez would be a really cool one

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Apparently she replanted them.

I find her actions odd consider her charity work

Excerpt Bette Midler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In 1995, Midler founded the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization with the goal of revitalizing neglected neighborhood parks in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods of New York City. These include Highbridge Park, Fort Washington Park, and Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan and Roberto Clemente State Park and Bridge Park in the Bronx.
In 1999, the city planned to auction 114 community gardens for commercial development. Midler led a coalition of greening organizations to save them. NYRP took ownership of 60 of the most neglected plots. Today Midler and her organization work with local volunteers and community groups to ensure that these gardens are kept safe, clean and vibrant. In 2003, Midler opened Swindler Cove Park, a new five-acre public park on the Harlem River shore featuring specially designed educational facilities and the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse, the first community rowing facility to be built on the Harlem River in more than 100 years. The organization offers free in-school and after-school environmental education programming to students from high-poverty Title I schools"

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn are both very real possibilities, I'd guess.

Given all the info we've gotten so far, actress, 50s, white, and in the other thread- campy, fun...

I'd be so happy with a Goldie Hawn collection. She's aged beautifully and was the cutest thing in the world on Laugh-In. Her time on that show, the makeup, the costumery, is pretty iconic of that era.

I still think it would've been perfect to do Phyllis Diller, but she sure isn't in her 50s, haha.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

I love Goldie. That would be fabulous!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

How old is Lauren Hutton? I know she's not in her 50s (shoot, maybe 60 or 70...) But she still looks good...

Also, if Iman didn't have her own makeup line, she'd make a great icon, IMO.

Of course now that Erine has given us clues, I cannot for the life of me think of any 50 y/o white actresses...lol...hmm

Sharon Stone couldn't be an icon...Have you seen that woman put her own makeup on?! Yeesh.

Goldie Hawn, maybe. But ppl know her (don't they? )

Damn. Now I'm gonna be thinking about this all freakin' night. Grr.

I hope that when Christina A. turns 40, MAC will make her an Icon. I love her so much!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Yeah I thought about Diane Lane, too.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Jamie Lee Curtis?
Demi Moore?

I am just guessing around here trying to think of all of the middle aged white actresses who I think have aged well

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

What is it about the past icons that made MAC pick them? They've gotta have something in common...besides being older.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

people who were wondering about ages... bette midler is 62, farah fawcett is 61, lauren hutton is 64, and goldie hawn is 62. given the "campy" clue, i'd say bette or goldie... but i feel like its someone we haven't mentioned that's not really too well-known based on previous threads... aaargh! i wanna know!!!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

oh here's the link to the thread that i was thinking of, i remember reading this a while back... http://specktra.net/f165/icon-info-a...76/index3.html

courtesy of thumper...
"It's someone some of you may not know and it will definately, definately be something you won't expect.
Some folks may not be too pleased, but just go with it!
It won't be early in the year. Will be a humourous, campy campaign.
It will be FUN!"

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

i'm going crazy! i wanna know who it is!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

So we are sure it is a woman? I was just thinking about Boy George. After Thumper's quote above, my head is spinning. It is driving me nuts! If it is supposed to be in the fall, you should hear something at the next update right Erine?

Or maybe Carol Channing? Carol Burnett?

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Oh, gosh. Now I'm worried! I don't know if I want to know now...but I gotta know, lol.

that was where that thread started going... they were all guessing men, like bowie and tim curry and john waters. but erine's co-worker said it was a woman so it doesn't seem to be any of those guesses. another guess was phyllis diller which kinda fits the clues but she's a lot older than '50ish' so i have no idea!! grrrr....

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

When I hear the description "campy" it makes me think of John Waters. That is who I thought of when this topic came up before. I would love a John Waters collection!

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Seriously the suspense is driving me to near crazy!...She is a white actress, in her 50's, campy and fun, not really that well known but still "iconic"...how can they not be that well known yet still be considered an icon....they're toying with my emotions!

kylie would be AMAZING.

Edie Sedgewick omg I would die...she might not have been the best role model or w/e but damn she had a killer sense of style!!! I adore her!
