What to do you ladies do for some extra cash?

So I'm a college student with a very tight budget. I'm trying to get into medical school and so I'm studying 24/7 trying to keep my grades up. Lately, my parents have been struggling even though my undergrad is paid off for with FL scholarships and such. Through all the stress of research, volunteering, school I'm faced with having to find myself a job. School's already taking up my time and will need to find some time to fit in work, most likely on the weekends just to help pay for my rent and groceries. I'm to the point where I'm selling some of my shoes and clothes to pay off some bills :-X.

Obviously I can't depend on my parents anymore so what do you ladies do to gain some extra cash. I've always wanted to start up a business of some sort or freelance but I just dont have the time

sry this was sort of a rant. Anyone else in my situation helllp!!!

maybe u can find somebody that needs a babysitter for kids that are a bit older, like ages 7-10. u can bring along ur books to study while ur with them since older kids are easier to watch. u can give them little art projects and ect. to do and get in some study time while their busy in a good way!lol

Hey! First of all, good for you for studying and trying to get into medical school! As far as cash, hmm... I would go through EVERYTHING you have and whatever you don't need try to sell.

- Used makeup you can sell on makeupalley or macsaleswap on livejournal.. (and maybe on here? -- sorry, im new) make sure you sell and not swap though because that defeats the whole purpose

- Sell books - you can try on craigslist first (no fees) and then on amazon

- Sell clothes/purses/etc. on craigslist, too.

Also, check out craigslist for "services needed" like babysitters like MissMochaXOXO recommended... dogsitting, housesitting, etc... where you basically get paid to sit but can study at the same time, too. Just be cautious when going through craigslist or through any ad for that matter!

I've been selling lots of my old textbooks on half.com and in the past few weeks, I've made almost $200. It definitely helps me out. I'm thinking of selling some of my used designer goods on eBay now because they are just collecting dust in my closet.

This is a great idea and if you have a nicer YMCA (I've heard some aren't very nice, we've been told ours is like a country club compared to most) in your area you can go there and put a note on their board. I used to be a program director of most of the children's programs at ours and moms would always ask about sitters and I hated that workers are not suppose to do that for members because I had great college girls working for me who could use the money. There was a few I trusted enough to look the other way. So maybe you could introduse yourself to some of the workers in the kids area and tell them about yourself and leave your name and number.

If you have any toys in the attic from your childhood/your kids childhood, they could get a pretty penny on Ebay! Im 22 and we never throw ANYTHING away, I had about 50 Littlest Pet Shop sets from childhood (the vintage ones) and got $20+ each for them on Ebay! My Little Ponies are good ones too.

Best part is to SELL ! Post ads on Craigslist or Kijiji. Also, post flyers around your neighbourhood - grocery stores and school!

Also, you can babysit. Or you can do factory jobs - this is really physical though, my bestfriend tried this for like a week but she got a kickass paycheque after lol!

Or just do plain housework for people - you know, like do the dishes - laundry etc. Are you dorming? My school offers FREE rent for students who apply to become Residence Advisors

First of all thank you everyone for such good advice. I am putting up some stuff up for sale right now (AND if anyone is a size 6.5 I'm selling coach heels for 60 that I got for 100 =P). When I go back to my mom's place I'm going to do a major clean out of my old stuff!

As for job hunting I'm trying to find an office job or babysitting job. If not I might have to go back to retail and work only on the weekends, of course giving up my social life but hey I'm use to it! I really wish I could do work study but I'm not qualified for it apparently from financial aide.

it definitely sucks when money is tight! but if you are going to med school you will no doubt make up for it eventually

i've used the suggestions already posted, selling makeup you don't use, selling textbooks is a great way to make extra money.

i'm a 4th year student and i proctor undergraduate exams for some extra money, i got the opportunity through my thesis course but you could always ask around and see if your school needs extra proctors. my uni pays $15 an hour and most exams are 2 or 3 hours long so its a pretty good opportunity!

seriously, there are always very creative and quirky ways you can make money. tutoring could also be a good way to not only earn some cash but study at the same time (if the subject is relevant)

I'm actually not kidding, strippers and bartenders can make good money when things get tight. It's legal and safe. The only thing is that it might be a dog eat dog world right now with the economy so strained. If you don't know how to bartend, the 18 and over clubs are juice bars.

Are there any local restaurants or coffee shops on your campus?
Most of those only hire students, and pay fairly well.
And of course, they know you can only work so much during the week.
The ones I have on my campus will only allow you to work 15 hours a week.

see if there is a Plato's Closet in your area. Its a store that buys your clothes. Its geared towards young people and they take stuff like Hollister, Abercrombie,Ed Hardy ect. You might be able to get more money from selling on ebay or craigslist but its worth checking out if you have one in your area. Or hey if you want some cute cheap clothes without going to the mall there ya go

I've had a Plato's Closet in my area for years now. I've thought about trying to sell some of my stuff to them, just even today I thought about it. I have a really nice practically new (wore it only twice) Applebottom's jacket that I don't really need. But yeah a guy I knew said he tried selling his ecko and southpole stuff there but they wouldn't take it.

Do you ever get those advertisement papers in the mail with like a million listings from cars, job opportunities to lost pets? Maybe you could try one. Some of them even offer free listings sometimes but it depends.

I think tutoring is a good idea, & selling old textbooks.

Apply to any jobs you can, work during holidays, etc.

I do a few things right now(I realise these are mainly British things):

I am a extra in some BBC series (Woohoo! Fun and good pay)

I am a print Model (That pays ok too....)

I work for Ann summers and do adult based parties (I did this mainly for my confidence, but its about 100 pounds a night)

I sell on ebay, Anything around the house that I dont need anymore

Dog walking, I love to walk with my dog so taking another one along isnt a hassle!

I work for a Temp agency, for waitressing and other things

I offer special needs babysitting, as I have worked with special needs children for 10 years.

And I just signed my dog up to be in films and some TV work! Haha! Hes a good chap though :-) And such a poser for cameras...Wonder where he gets that from.... :-)

I dont do all of this EVERY day, i tend to do 1 or 2 days a month of EACH thing, and because I get sick of the same thing quickly, it helps me to keep my motivation high!



If your good at makeup, try to put yourself on model mayhem and charge $10 a shoot, for 2 makeup changes!

Oh Girl I know this, and just wanted to tell I understand and im in pretty same position

I've sold a lot of make-up I never use, and clothes aswell. I try to cut down expenses. Also, I got a temporary job any time I got an opportunity, worked in a reception deck, as an interpreter, as an asistant. All that helped me a lot! You already got some great advices, it all gonna be fine girl!

I decided to become a consultant for The Body Shop At Home, meaning i do parties. But it's really flexible so you can do as many or as few as you like. I had three parties and some outside orders in December and decided not to do anything in January.

I also make wool yarn hair pieces that I sell on LJ and in a local alternative clothes and accessories shop.

And when i get round to it, I list some stuff i don't want on ebay.
And i swap makeup on MUA -can't sell there but you can still exchange something you never use for something you cant afford to buy.

totally off topic but i have those Littlest Pet Shop sets from my childhood, but seriously, they look so weird now, and don't do the same things as my sets did. I <3 them. I just don't have any packaging or anything so I doubt theyd fetch much.

Your right about Plato, I have TONS of clothes I don't wear anymore and are in good condition still, some I've only worn a few times. But they won't take it cause they are only really looking for the more "preppy" brands like American Eagle, Abercrombie, etc cause of the popularity of those brands.

You should! Its been tough lately, I wanna travel more sooo.. Im seling more of MAC, like holiday brushes, they are pretty but I hardly ever used them. I gonna sell clothes in spring more! Im actually down for any job, but it's difficult as I study. You can do it girl We can

Also I gonna start saving my receits - I never did, they scare and embarass me lol. But I gotta be counting money now, so gotta check twice before spending.

Since you are in college, I would try to find a job at the school that involves sitting behind a desk. Do you have an information center or a library checkout desk or anything like that? I had several friends who worked at jobs like that in school. When they weren't on facebook or aim, they did very little actual work for their job and studied.

Pretty sure that's what the job expect you to do, so they don't really come down on you too much as long as you can multitask.

Doing the makeup thing is pretty good to if you think you can rock it. I'm trying to get my skills up so that can be my hustle in med school too!

Yeah college is the worst time you could have. With the temptation to overspend, but pockets always aren't deep enoguh
