Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

I have to share this. Why is it that all of a sudden every corner nail shop is offering lash extensions? I went to get a mani. and these girls were so loud talking about how they were getting lashes. I asked them why would you pay for someone to apply false lashes? The just said because it was in style. Really, WTF? I watch the nail tech, yes nail tech, apply some $1.99 lashes,( SASSI, which I love and wear,) with some cheap glue and then charged these girls $50. I be damned if I'm going to pay you $50 to apply lashes that I can get myself and put on myself for free! Ok, i'm in the wrong bizness. Then the nail tech told them to be careful washing their face because if the apply to much soap and water, the lashes would come off. Wait a minute, you mean they're going to sleep in them? Yuck.I don't think that's safe or well hell, it's nasty! I mean these were some serious Mahogany, Dreamgirl lashes. Not the natural daytime lashes. So my question is ,was I over reacting or is this straight BOOTY? I know that there's a difference between "real extensions" and what this nail tech did.

What do ya'll think?

LOl, I know what you mean, I was being sarcastic! This is the attitude the girls had about it. Like , "why would I want to take them off"?

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

It's frustrating. Believe me, I know. I started in the beauty industry 11+ years ago and I spent a lot of time trying to educate people on proper standards and what to look for and I finally got to a point where I just threw my hands up. I am not the Dear Abby of hair and nails. If you can't respect the craft, don't care what you're doing to yourself and choose to throw your money away on shoddy service, best of luck.....Hope you don't experience anything life-altering in the process. You get what you pay for and sometimes, even more than you've bargained for. Don't let it get to you. I came to terms with it by telling myself that there will always be a market for people who are too cheap or foolish to pay for quality services.

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

Well said. Is there some type of certification that the salons are suppose to have for this type of thing? Honestly, I just learned how to apply lashes to my own eyes and I would never try to apply them to anyone else. I'm like seriously, it's your eyes, their a big deal! When she was done you should have seen how thick the glue was, it was so obvious.

Girl. Girl. GIRL!!!!!! This shit is going down in ATL a little bit, but it is spiraling out of control in Savannah, where ( don't hate me for saying this, Savannians) people are hella bamma and way less savvy about beauty. My aunt paid 30 dollars for this shit but I didn't find out until after te damage was done. I wanted to throttle her! I've informed her and she got a big ole mouth, so hopefully she can curb others frm falling for the same okey doke.

Usually, in many states, if you are licensed you are only permitted to perform services on certain parts of the body. The face is not permitted as far as I know for Nail Technicians. Again, things vary by state. But, like I said before, ignorance is costly. There are plenty of MAs who have studios. Why have this done by a nail tech who's probably not even very good at nails? The spa where I work wanted to quote someone an outrageous price to place strip lashes ( I want to say something like $50) and it wasn't until I looked at the coordinator like she was crazy that she backed down.

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

Ewww....seriously, who in their right mind would want to keep them on for more than a day! Not only uncomfortable but unsanitary!! After a few hours I already want to rip them off so I rarely even do wear falsies. But seriously, wow...some people...

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

I put a pair on my co-worker for a NYE party and she told me the next time I saw her that she would never wear them again because "they didn't even last" and were coming off when she woke up the next day. So ignorance, again.....some women don't even know that they are not meant to be worn that long. Not only ignorance.....but thanks for letting me know you don't wash up before settling in.

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

I'm in shock... Ppl pay to have falsies put on them? And it's not obvious that they're supposed to come off?

Wow...

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

Two of my friends always get theirs done. They go all the way to LA (at least an hour) to pay $20-30 to get lashes put on with weave glue

They leave them on for at least 1-2 weeks. I ask them how do they not come off? They said they wash around them

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

^^ I heard of a few people using weave glue for lashes. To each it's own, but that's not for me. So clearly I'm not the only one in shock about this. Funny story. My BF and I went to Baskin Robbins in a strip mall, and what did we see, a nail salon that was offering everything under the sun, nails, eyelashes extensions (their spelling not mine), tattoo makeup and yes, teeth whitening! I damn near fell out! WTF! Just when you think that you've seen it all.

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

I'm new to the site and kind of just lurking around, but OMG.

I'm from Alaska so there are limited services avaliable here in salons, tattoo makeup and makeup require a different license than that of a nail tech or hairdresser. But I have lived in Cali and am now living in DC but have yet to see anything so phenomenally stupid. I'm not that into false lashes, I ordered some last week to practice with because I really would like to learn to apply them better. However, even I know better than to wear them for that long or even sleep in them.

I've never worn anything longer than the day or evening. It never matters to me how tired I am or how little makeup I have on, I always make sure to get every bit off and then shower and wash it again. I can't imagine just cleaning "around it".

No wonder so many people think makeup makes your skin bad. Apparently nobody is learning how to properly wear it.

teeth whitening? You really think I'm about to let you near my mouth...really? I guess that another case of having the "hook up", but that's one hookup I would surely opt out of. I won't even let most of these nail shops touch my eyebrows let alone anything else that is much more sensitive and could have more extensive damage.

Re: Eyelash Hookups at the Nail Salon!

I personally can't stand those eyelash extensions women get done at the nail salon. They look so obvious and FAKE. I can see the glue and that is NOT cute!

If your gonna wear fake lashes or fake anything for that matter it shouldn't be screaming fake or look detectable.

I wore fake lashes once and by the end of the night I couldn't wait to take them off. They felt uncomfortable so I don't know how those women keep them on for weeks.

But, to be fair. I didn't know you aren't suppose to wear lashes longer than a day. It didn't say it on the packet so I can understand why folks would complain about them lasting as it's apparently not common knowledge.

I just can't stand those tacky fake lashes!
