buying MAC for F&FS or waiting until I get pro card at IMATS

I'm in a pickle. I will be attending IMATS on June 20th. When you go to IMATS you get to apply for the pro card without credentials. But I don't think anyone knows for sure for sure that they will do it this year......or do you?

I was planing on buying stuff from the Going Going Gone section and from the new collections(style warriors) for the F&FS. Since the pro card doesn't let you buy stuff that is in the new collections. right?

If we do get an a pro card at IMATS should I hold on and buy stuff when I get my pro card and get 30% off instead of 25%? I know 5% isn't much of a difference but when you are buying a lot it can save you quite a bit. I'm planning on buying 450 worth of stuff! hehehhe mostly brushes.


what should i DO!!!!???

Wait for the pro card? which is iffy. If I don't get the pro card I would miss out on this sale and have to wait another 6 months!

If I buy everything now, I would be spending more money

OR buy some now, and then buy much much more when/if i get the pro card?


Those going to IMATS, what are you doing? WHAT SHOULD I DO??!!! HELP!

the exact same thing was going thru my head!! i think to be on the safe side, u should buy the things u really really want during the ff sale and then wait on the other stuff.

You can use your Pro card on LE collections. Apparently it can't be used on LE collections with special packaging but I just used it on Style Warriors, so go figure.

I got my Pro card from the UK IMATS in January and the discount is 35% when I use it in the UK and 40% whenever I use it stateside for some reason - not that I'm complaining!

I'd wait for the Pro card. They were giving them away at The Make Up Show a few weeks ago so I see no reason why they won't be doing it again at The IMATS - have fun!

blushbaby! thank you for your helpful info! wow the UK gives 35% off! thats coool! i think in the states we only get 30% (non makeup artist). If you are a MUA you get 40%. When you went to IMATS did they check your credentials for you to get in. the MAC MUA at my store said that you cant get in w/o credentials.

lilmamaj: are you going to IMATS too??

Yes I think I'm going! I just don't know which day yet. I live fairly closes to Pasadena so it's not a big problem. I don't know who I'm going with as of yet because none of my close friends are into makeup or would be willing to pay to see makeup. lol. we should meet up tho!

p.s. i'm really crossing my fingers for the pro card at the IMATS! pleeease!!

That's weird - maybe they think I'm a MUA then. I dunno why, I look a right state half the time I go instore!!

Nope they didn't check anything at IMATS. MAC made it crystal clear that the card was for anybody to get on those 2 days and that normally you'd go through a stringent process to get a PRO card. Good times!!

LilmamaJ, yeah I've read on here loads of times that you can't use your card on special packaging, but I used it on Friday for SW so who knows what the friggin truth is!

^^ I'm very interested to see what happens at this IMATS as I'm probably heading to the one in Sydney later this year and I'm hoping to pick up a pro card!

You can use the Pro Card on unbranded SP ....When I say unbranded I mean not like trademark packaing like Hello Kitty, Dame Edna, etc...But just MAC SP they have allowed it. They allowed it for Style Warriors

I'm in the same boat, altho I'm not for IMAT. I've recently applied for a Pro Card and I pondered if I should wait until it gets here and pass on the F/F sale.

BUT, I decided to go ahead and purchase from the sale *just in case* I do not receive the card.

I called IMATS information line and was told that MAC is changing the policy this time and will not give pro card without credentials. You still need to bring business card, id, and another proof. Thank you.

OMG ALLINBEE that is such sad news if it is true! I SOOOOO hope the people at IMATS information line are wrong! Ive been planning this trip since feb. hehehe.

now dont hate me for saying this but I think its only fair that you need to have the paperwork in order to get a procard. Because lots of people (me included) worked really hard and long hours in order to get one, and the discount is meant for industry professionals not for personal collectors.

I totally agree
And the truth is that if people keep circumventing the rule, MAC will just make it harder for the pro's to get the discount and that would suck for the professionals, who need the discount.

I had/have a feeling that was going to happen. Oh well.

@L1LMAMAJ: what time r u going? I think that I am going invite MUGS who want to go first thing on Saturday to meet before going in. Want to?

At the Makeup Show in NYC they did not give them away. You had to provide credentials. They weren't as strict because technically you need credentials to buy a ticket and get into the show. I am sure a few people not in the fashion/ beauty industry sneaked in though.

I agree with you, now I am not saying I am a makeup artist so I do not know if this is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black I dislike when people not at all related to beauty or fashion talk about having their card and what not, when there is no reason for them to have it besides the discount. I understand the economy is crap right now and a nice discount on anything is great, but that discount is truly meant for people that are in the industry and spent years on the craft or people like are in the industry that use makeup(me- Part of my job is being head of Creative Styling for the company I work for- this includes deciding on all hair and makeup, and the artists we use for the fashion shows, campaigns and website)

I can def see why a makeup artist would be annoyed to see some girl come into mac with some pro card they were just give.


Back to the topic- I would go for the FF sale because you need credentials from now on at the IMATS.

Most performers don't have 'credentials.' I'm wondering if they will take this into consideration for those like me. Any thoughts?
