Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I'm still AMAZED and disgusted that someone would use a tester mascara on their eyes?!?! or even steal a tester? I went to a CCO today and noticed for the 1st time that they had snapped all the lipgloss sponge applicators off so it would be basically useless if stolen...

Wow, I hope your mom breaks that habit! Shoplifting is so not cool.

As for your niece, tell her that she can get infections from borrowing your stuff. Show her pictures of bad styes and stuff, scare her out of it.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

Hey -- I had a MRSA infection from an incision. I do not touch MU anywhere unless I have cleaned and sterilized it myself.

You guys have no idea how horrific these new super bacterias /virus' are -- they can and do kill you. People have lost their whole arms and limbs to these infections and we go around putting on products -- hell no, not for me. I buy and use it on myself at home.. and until the day I die I will not test anything in any store.

It would be ironic for someone to steal an infection.

LMAO
Last week I had on baggy sweatpants, a big Yankees hoodie, and I literally just went across the street to Sephora after buying a suitcase. I didn't even have my whole body in the door when this SA says " Can I help you with anything?" I'm thinking to myself, damn can I finish walking in the freaking door? Then I remembered this thread and just started laughing LOL, the girl was looking at my like I was crazy, then she said something into her little headset, and as I was walking I saw a few more SAs looking in my direction.
SMH I just asked for a job application, some TSFI and left

True, I've seen soo many eyeliners, eyeshadows and what stolen, like um seriously people? These are testers everyone uses, that's gross, If you're gonna steal at least steal the brand new shit it's right behind the testers DUH! ( Not that I condone stealing)

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

Seriously, what made me laugh the most - was when I went TO WORK and this new security guard was following me around like crazy. I lost him after giving him a few weird/dirty/are you serious?! looks- and went downstairs through the employee door, changed into my uniform, & came back up ready for my shift.

His eyes just about popped outta his head....he looked so embarassed.

He didn't realize I worked there! ahahahaha!

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I always wonder when they ask ''Can I help you find anything'' if they really want to help me or they think I'm going to steal lol either way it always ruins my mood a little becuase it honestly offends me to be looked at like that. I prefer just being watched quietly rather then having to force a conversation lol. I would never ever steal, even when I was little and all the other kids would steal gift shop stuff on field trips and ect, I could never do it! lol

I know it's probaly my fault though because I <3 carrying big purses and tote bags but still it sucks that other people have to ruin shopping a lil bit for honest people like me.

Me too, personally, but they really stress the importance of approaching people and offering to help them, because it shows the person that you are paying attention, and if they are considering shoplifting, your paying attention will make it harder for them.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

In defense of Sephora/Ulta/all other small shops--There isn't store L.P and the employees are NOT trained to stop a shoplifter. They may know what to do, but they're not going to be ex-cops or future cops (or even cop wannabes) like you find in larger stores. As stated before, the employee must see you take something and they have so many rules about when they can nab you. SO they have to keep an eye on you.

What they need to do is keep their radar but drop it a bit. A thief will wait until a back is turned to slip something. My friend worked LP for Kmart for a while and one day, while we were in Ulta, she approached an employee and said, "Listen, those three girls over there need to be watched. I haven't seen them the entire time but I can tell. I work LP for Kmart and I want you to know they seem suspicious. We've been watching them but we have to go to a movie." Then we paid for our stuff and left AFTER the girl called a manager with their "secret code" to let the manager know what was going on. There is a fine line between being too vigilant and not vigilant enough.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I got watched around Debenhams a few weeks ago, very intensley!!

Some admittedly very pretty girl followed me around perfume, make up and then swimwear.(otherside of the same floor)

So I splurged. HARD and dropped in a true but rather cruel comment about Xmas bonuses.

I feel a bit shitty in reflection because I know they get shoplifters a lot, but it's so very very rude to stare and make obvious eye contact when stealthily keeping an eye out.

I will own up though, I shoplifted a bottle of nail polish and a flake from Tescos when I was 12 or 13. I was so shit scared they knew it took me four years to even venture back in there.

Absolute terror is a great curer of evils! lol

i work for sephora and we actually have an LP at my store about 35 hours a week. I believe most stores in Canada have an LP agent. We (the cast members) are not allowed to accuse anyone or do a damn thing (even if we see you put something in your pocket). We can use burn tactics ie "Can i help you find a lip liner for that gloss you have?" but i cannot do more than that. I cant even call security.
I dont know how other stores are, but we do watch people. Our LP can't be there 24/7, so we have to try and cover ourselves too. Unless your an obnoxious bratty looking teenager (sorry, we catch them the most), we'll usually approach you and leave you alone, unless your acting sketchy as all hell. If your a gang of 15 yr old girls acting weird, i will full out stand and watch you at the other end of the Gondola. If that's how it's got to be, sorry. If you're uncomfortable, come ask me for help. I'm more than happy to help you if you genuinely do want to shop, but a lot of people come in to steal. I can't even count the number of young girls our LP has caught that i have watched while working.
Sephora looses a ton of money due to theft. I mean there are teeny objects in usually crowded understaffed stores. Next time someone is watching you and making you uncomfortable, look at them in the eye and smile. If they don't fuck off ask them a question. If they still don't ask to speak to a store director. Tell them that while you understand that they need to be vigilant, the staring is making you uncomfortable, that you are not a theft and being treated as such is kind of ruining your shopping experience. You don't feel valued as a costumer. That kind of thing. If it continues, e-mail the company. Any comments/e-mails about specific stores get sent to that store.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

hahahahah this is so funny! I work at Sephora and yes we are trained to ask"what can I help you find .."etc yes people do get annoyed so i def dont ask more than once..i know when I shop that if I need help Ill ask lol. We dont mean any harm, a lot of people steal its crazy..

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

This happened to me today too,I was just swatching stuff and was going to buy but this guy followed me around the store for so long I just left. I know they need to watch and I don't care about that but there's a difference between watching and staring.

Technically, you can call mall security (or rather, one of your leads or specialists can). You just can't ask them to target anyone in particular - they can do a walk-through, which will hopefully make any would-be lifter nervous.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

^Which we have done before, however, they do not have access to our cameras as far as i know, and have never caught anyone. The only thing they seem to do is possibly intimidate.
The point is even if im standing next to you, and i see you steal, cause im not lp, you get a free ride.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

Yes. That's what I said, that they can do a walk-through and make potential shoplifters nervous. Doesn't always work - some people are too oblivious or too ballsy.

And yeah, it does suck that you can't do anything aside from being extremely attentive and hopefully scaring them off.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I'd rather be stalked than blatantly ignored. At least then I know the SA is within reach if I have a question, even if she thinks I'm a thief. There have been a lot of times where I would like an SA around but instead they are just standing around conversing with each other rather than being helpful or I have to track one down for 5 minutes.

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I'm weird I don't like being helped lol. I like researching stuff online and then purchasing it, that way I already know what I want. Whenever I get asked ''May I help you?'' I'm like omg go away lol. I know that's so bad but I hate being bothered/stared at while I'm shopping. I always have to reply the same ''I'm just looking''. lol

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I get followed around every makeup store/counter. Every mid or high end store as a matter of fact.

....I think it's all my piercings and tattoos. Oh well. lol

Re: Stalked @ Sephora?

I feel the same way. They ask me like a hundred times if I do need help with anything and I always say no thank you. It also happends to me at the CCO too!

I tend to be the same way I go in knowing what I want at most stores and when someone asks if I need help I tell them I'm just looking the lady at the cosmetic company outlet when I come is shes like your in all the time I know you don't need help you always know what you want.

I agree wholeheartedly, which is why the stalking annoys me to no end and yes, I am sympathetic to the fact they are just doing their jobs.

What peeves me even more is when I do ask a question, I'm usually more knowledgeable about the makeup than they are?!?! This happens even more so at MAC???? Or they will offer an alternative (cause there is ALWAYS something I want that is out of stock) that is not even remotely similar to my original request.

Ugg, that happens to me all the time. I'm swatching products and they're always watching me while pretending to clean things. Once I caught an SA spying on me from behind a shelf. I get that they're doing their job and I'm one of the younger people who go into sephora but It's uncomfortable looking for acne concealer while some 50 year old women are staring at me.

that has happened to me and what I do is start following them, eventually they go away, I can never keep a straight face tho, lmao

Sometimes I am ignored in Sephora, and sometimes the SA's follow me around.  I usually ignore them when they follow me around and ask me 10x if I need a basket.

I am always either followed around or ignored. I suppose I have to just get used to it, because both can be annoying.

What really bothered me was my last trip to my local MAC counter, which is the only one remotely near my area. I haven't been there for months so I'm hoping my next visit will be better. But the MA asked "Oh, do you save up all your money just to buy MAC? Wow." I was making like a $60 purchase. Yes, I am young and I don't make a lot of money but I found it offensive for her to imply that it must take a lot for me to save up $60...even if it does! Lol.

Same story in France : ignored or they follow around all the time. But worse, in some Sephora shops there is a really nasty habit, rudeness with customers ! I have a golden card, I am not boasting of this but I would like a smile or a simple hello. In other Sephora shops around here it's quite the opposite all people are great, I very often talk to them and we discuss upcoming collections, perfumes or other topics. I already boycotted one Sephora, I happen to know they do it on purpose because they don't appreciate their director. Mean, I think. Many good customers did like me, they would never go to that Sephora again.

I agree with you, Dominique33. It really depends on the Sephora store.

There is one I don't go to anymore because the people working there are just rude, and very unhelpful. Plus the testers are in such horrible condition.

The Sephora closest to where I live have some of the kindest and nicest sellers ever, and everything is clean and neat.

Horror story (at least for me, lol) was on wednesday. It was the first day of sales, and I saw 3 Guerlain Rouges G on sales. The testers were right there, but one customer opened the lipstick and swatched it on her hand. I told her with a smile that there were testers right there; she gave me nasty look then ignored me. I quietly notified one seller (who was horrified) who quickly went to offer her advice and help, just to check she wouldn't do it again.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I have been stalked not so much by the sellers but more by the security guards at the Sephora I don't go to anymore. They followed me. I like big bags, and pockets on my clothes. I browse through counters, and I like to swatch. I often go out make-up free, in jeans, t-shirt and ballerinas or tennis shoes. I also look younger than I am, and I like luxury make-up. So I must look like a teenager who doesn't know anything about make-up and who doesn't have enough money to buy make-up sold at Sephora. So I guess I look suspicious and worth following around. It's super annoying.

I don't mind being asked "Hello, can I help you with anything?" / "Hi, do you need advice?" but 4-5 times in a row is annoying.

One bad experience that I had was at the Guerlain counter in Le Printemps. I was admiring their wall of Rouges G (I have a weakness for those). The seller looked at me with spite, like I had no business looking at such expensive and classy items in my cheap clothes and make-up free face. I felt humiliated.

So it's the same elsewhere ! Yes you're right, the security guard does stalk ! But I was told the reason by the Direction at my favourite Sephora where they're all great. People who stole makeup and luxury goods are very often the store's best customers ! She told me a lawyer ( earning let's say  more 5000 €/month to give you an idea ) stole around 700 € skincare products ! She was a very good customer who had never stolen before...

I never felt humiliated at Sephora, ignored yes but humiliation no, when I ask when is the MUFE Bohème Palette to be launched please, they simply don't know... There is so much pressure at Sephora that they never take the time to visit blogs and beauty sites. I think it's sad for them to work in such a bad context, many leave Sephora for other brands I understand that. But customers should be treated as customers, esp in the luxury industry.
