just not worth the money at all in my opinion. drug store and even middle of the range brands mascaras do a much better job and are half the cost

Re: MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Discussion

drug store mascaras are the only ones I will buy. Unless this gets stellar reviews, I likely won't get it.

Re: MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Discussion

I can't buy most drugstore mascara's, because most of the drugstore brands here are tested on animals I am not sure if dior does, but a lady in some cosmetics shop told me dior doesn't. I know mac doesn't test on animals, so i bought Plush lash and it's great But if someone knows for sure dior isn't tested please tell me.

Really? Are they worth it?

I love their body scrubs and body butters but have never tested a mascara before.

i think so. they are avaerage priced in the uk - about £10 and i quite like the devide and multiply one. it has short bristles on the brush which i quite like. the mascara doesn't flake either. so quite a nice every day mascara

I tried one mascara of them and hated it and the body shop is now also of lóreal and lóreal is tested on animals, so i don't know if i can trust the body shop There is one drugstore mascara i do like. That is the model mascara from beyu. I don't think it is available in much countries, but it is really nice. Again i'm not sure if it is tested on animals or not, but i don't think so. I'm not going to use it all the time, because i like to try new mascara's.

Which drugstore brands test on animals? If I know, I won't buy from them anymore. I have been wondering for awhile.... Can't support animal testing- I love my dogs WAY too much

I know lóreal does. Brands that are from the lóreal group do so to like Maxfactor, Maybelline, Biotherm, Cacharel, Lancome, Garnier, Shu uemura, Vichy. You can find more brands on the lóreal site, but those i see the most. I thought Rimmel was also part of lóreal, but it isn't on the site. And Covergirl also tests on animals, but we don't have it here. I can't wait till 2013, because from then it is forbidden in europe to test on animals or to sell cosmetics tested on animals

oh i didn't know body shop was part of l'oreal. although isn't the point of the body shop that they don't test on animals? in the 90's that was their big campaign thing i am sure

I wish that was going to be passed in the US. Thanks- will avoid drugstore altogether, I guess...

The Body Shop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it's a bit ambiguous about whether they do now or not. it's been 3 years since anita died and i'm not sure how much control her family have of the company. i'd imagine they'd continue not testing, seems wrong for them to do a total U-turn on such an integral company policy though.

hhhhmmm yes you'd think they wouldn't test. but perhaps not to be totally trusted anymore.

i did a quick google search and it seems that they don't personally test on animals, but there's a lot of sites calling for boycotts as the body shop profits go to l'oreal, who do test. it's a bit of a grey area really

It really sucks I still have some body butter from the body shop, but i am not going to buy new ones just to be sure. I think i'm going to buy some body butter from lush next

Re: MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Discussion

^Sympathy for the Skin by Lush is AMAZING. A really light TRUE vanilla smell (not a cloying fake vanilla). My sister really loves Dream Cream, but it's a little too herbally/medicinal smelling for me.

If you're looking for an in-the-shower body butter, Aqua Mirabilis is my fave. Smells like peanut butter and exfoliates oh so nicely. Schnuggle is nice too, if you're ordering online (it's Retro, so it's only available online/over the phone).

/end Lush-ramble

I got a sample of their Divide and Multiply mascara with a magazine, and it felt very sticky and took ages to dry. And even after it had dried I felt like my top and bottom lashes were sort of sticking to each other every time I blinked. So not a new fave exactly.

Also, while The Body Shop is now owned by L'Oreal, I know that they are treating it as a separate unit and not integrating it in their usual structure of drugstore, premium and pharmacy brands (and pro hair care, but that's not relevant). So I don't think you need to worry about the product policies inside TBS. As far as L'Oreal getting the profits, well, they own the company so it is what it is.

I don't think I will be trying this mascara. Too gimicky for me.

That's the mascara i had. It didn't divide at all. It was clumpy, but not like normal mascara's. Little "balls" of mascara where on the brush and i couldn't get them off, so when i applied it they where on my lashes. It looked horrible.
I don't like to support lóreal by buying something from the body shop, but it is almost impossible to never support a company that tests on animals.

I think my next body butter will then be Sympathy for the Skin

Re: MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Discussion

I don't buy drugstore mascaras (or other makeup) for the same reason Pinkdollface doesn't - nearly every brand tests on animals. Only Barry M is cruelty free (from the cheaper brands that I know of), you can get it from Superdrug/Boots in UK.

The Body Shop is now indeed part of L'Oreal, which is _the_ evil brand (that includes Biotherm, Lancome, Helena Rubinstein etc.) and the money goes straight to them. I have boycotted TBS ever since they sold themselves, that was one nasty move they did!

Also Dior, Maybelline, Rimmel, Cover Girl, Make Up Store, Shu Uemura, Shisheido (--> Nars!), Make Up Forever, YSL, Guerlain, Elizabeth Arden, Sally Hansen etc. test on animals.

Here are brands that don't, so thumbs up for them: Mac, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Clarins, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Barry M, Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful (LUSH), Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Couleur Caramel etc (phew, I must forget some awesome brands but go to Peta caring consumer, you get the whole list there who tests and who doesn't!). So there are many many brands to choose from.

I hope everyone could do a little something for the animals, we sure owe it to them!

Re: MAC - Haute & Naughty Lash Discussion

This packaging looks quite......tacky to me. *ducks* I'm not a fan.

Since we are chatting mascara, my fave is by a company called Honeybee Gardens, it's a beeswax formula called Truly Natural Mascara. I love it!

I also like the original MAC mascara that is scented with roses, I believe it is now called Mascara X. A good basic mascara.

Ugggggh! That sucks that Make Up Forever tests on animals! I was looking forward to trying some of their stuff, but oh well. The well being of all the little furry creatures is more important to me than having #92. That is also why I didn't buy NARS in the past- b/c I knew it was tested on animals. Which, kind of confuses me. Every time I see the creator or founder in a picture, his dog is always with him....

As long as I have Urban Decay and MAC, I think I will live. They are my favorites anyway and they are cruelty free. Ye-yah!

I will do anything for the animals- I am vegan.

O no, i have one shadow and one eyeliner from make up forever I can't believe they test on animals. What do you do when you have something and you find out it is tested on animals? Do you throw it away or keep using it till it is gone?

I have high hopes for the new Dare to Wear collection that we could find a substitute for mufe #92! I'm still pissed to Mufe for not responding me when I wrote and asked them about their animal testing policy and why they are not on any don't test-lists that are available...

You are vegan? Hell yeah, so am I!!!

I have stuff that I've bought from mufe, helena rubinstein, dior etc. before I started to care. They bother me sometimes and mostly I have given them away, but I don't think it's wrong to use them up once you have them (I've kept some of the unique ones). The important thing is not to buy them again and not recommend them to others.

Yes- Shock a Holic looks promising.... I was actually really surprised when I found out they test on animals. I wouldn't have thought of them like that....

Yay! Vegan power!

I feel better now using them and i'm not going to buy anything else from mufe and dior.
I'm wondering how you guys do that, being a vegan. I'm a vegetarian and i don't have problems with that, but being a vegan must be hard.

Yeah- going vegetarian wasn't hard. I didn't like how meat tasted anyway, and when I saw the Paul McCartney youtube video, I knew I had made the right decision.

When I went vegan, I was always somewhat lactose intolerant. I love cheese, ice cream, etc., and I would always eat more than I should have and it would give me a stomach ache and sometimes I would get a few hives. So, when I went vegetarian, I was just like why not? So, I went vegan.

Day to day, it's not that hard for me. There have been a few times where I didn't read the label close enough or ate something at a restaurant that had a non-vegan ingredient, but honestly, my taste buds just changed and now, I crave salad the way I used to crave ice cream. I enjoy the food I eat just as much as I did when I was an omnivore.

Being vegan in todays world is simple and extremely easy! We have so many options - fake cheese, fake meats of all sorts, soy/oat/almond etc. milks and yogurts and ice creams. There are many many restaurants that are vegan, vegan leather shoes and purses.... The list would go on and on. I haven't had a single problem being a vegan ever.

Not to be totally off topic, I don't know about this mascara - I'm always curious about new mascaras but usually Mac doesn't deliver it for me with their mascaras.

I also don't like the taste of meat and factory farming.

I think it will be difficult. One time i was in a restaurant and asked if the tomato soup was without meat and she said no. Then i asked for union soup. When i got the union soup i saw there was meat in it. How stupid can someone be. I don't want meat in my tomato soup, but in union soup for sure. So sometimes people don't understand vegetarian and vegan will be even harder.

On to the mascara. The packaging is not pretty. Why not normal black? I have Plush lash mascara and really like that one. Never tried another mac mascara, but i will do in the future.

Take a look at the Vegetarian Restaurants Guide and Directory of Natural Health Food Stores by HappyCow, there you can find vegetarian and vegan restaurants, healthstores that carry vegetarian/vegan food etc. They list places all around the world, just do a search that is convenient for you!
