How to match eyeshadows

You can do both.  There are no rules to something like this.  

People used to believe you have to match your makeup with your outfit, but all that has changed. do what makes you feel beautiful. and have fun with it! 

I have heard people say matching is a no-no as well, and as much as I respect some of the makeup artists who say that, their style is a lot more conservative than mine overall. I'd say do whatever the hell you want as long as it looks good to you. Makeup should make you feel good about yourself, and as long as it does --- go nuts.

sometimes matching your eyeshadow to yours clothes can be too much. for example if you're wearing a hot pink shirt, hot pink eyes is too matchy matchy. you can switch it up and do a different shade of pink with some crease and outer corner colors that are darker browns maybe just so it doesnt seem like your wearing your shirt on your eyes. just my opinion!

definitely agree with the above posts. Do what you think will look good and feel good. 

I like to match my shadow to what im wearing. I dunno. Im a rule breaker I guess

I like to match my eyeshadow to my clothes as well although I know they say that's a no no.  Sometimes, I try to highlight a secondary colour. For example, if i wearing a black jacket and a green shirt to work, I would use green as my main colour on my lid and black in the crease.  It depends on the mood I am in.

its my personal rule that i never match my es to my clothing. No offense to anyone, but i find it obvious and uninspired. I think its too matchy matchy. It reminds me of people that wear a red dress with red shoes and a red bag.

if i really want to sneak that colour in ill add it discreetly in the crease, or on the lower lash line somewhere.

i like to pick a colour that ties the whole look together, like if i'm wearing accessories that may have some subtle jade jewels, and my dress happens to have small accents of aqua/turquoise in it, i go for a turquoise accent on the eye, be that liner, or a little pop of colour on the lid

but if i was wearing a dress that was plain turquoise, like all over, i would probably not, as it is too much, maybe a neutral eye with a coral lip or something

i'm all for accenting smaller bits of colour in your outfit, like you would with accessories

think of your make up like shoes or a handbag, like black and brown are always safe, but you can add a pop of colour sometimes and it looks great, same goes for make up

i often think, if i wore *insert colour here* shoes with this dress, would it look stupid? if the answer is no, then i go for it

and sometimes i do my make up first and concoct an outfit around it!

I definitely don't match my eyeshadow to my outfit, but I will do either neutral or just keep it in the same color family. 

Like, if I'm wearing a berry color in my outfit, I might use some colors like sketch, cranberry, etc. Or with green, I might use sumptuous olive or humid. 

But yes, I've seen women going all out with their red dress, red lips, red heels, red EVERYTHING. lol. That's a little much...

HAHA the thought of matching my makeup to what i'm wearing NEVER popped in my mind. Makeup should be fun, go crazy and do whatever looks good.

I agree, that would be way too much!

I totally agree. I never match my eyes with my clothing .

I don't "match" my e/s to my outfit, but I make it work with the outfit, like the perfect highlight in a painting. :)

Newbie too, I usually choose eyeshadows according to the color i like

I agree with Mabelle, no offense to be taken ...

I would say that if I have a meeting with VIP at the office I will keep it simple and without colors... but otherwise I don't care !

Oh and anyway I get changed 3 times before I leave home so that would never work for me

I don't match, but I like to complement. If I'm wearing warm colors, I'll do warm colored makeup, and if I'm wearing cool colors, cool colored makeup. I never match, but always choose shades that look good together!

yup i never like to match makeup with my clothing either. too matchy and a little much in my opinion.

No never, unless it's a going out outfit so of course I will make it more stand out, or day time dress down i will just do natural, thats the most I'd match.
