Chanel Makeup Brushes

^^ I haven't try this brush but I have the retractable one and I like it.

My counters have just received a new batch of brushes. The old flat powder brush #3 is replaced with a tapered one. I always wanted the old one but waited long enough for it to be out of stocks and now I can't get it anymore. I may be getting the new one and hopefully I will love it. The new blush brush also feels softer. Mine has light brown hairs while the new one has dark brown, almost black hairs. My blush brush is falling out so I may get the new one too. It should be able to pick up the hard baked JCs since Chanel make them, right? I'm quite anxious that the old brushes are discontinued and I can't get them anymore. There is the crease brush #3 that I want too and I'm not sure if they are still making it. I will be at the counter to examine the new brushes.

I have the #15 lip brush and use it for eyeliner. I love it and need to get a second.

Just saw the new Chanel makeup brushes! Wow, there are far more of them than I expected. I didn't count but I'd estimate somewhere around 15. They felt great on the display, and it was hard trying to decide which one(s) to buy. I really liked the lengths (not too short, not too long).

 

I ended up getting all of the taklon brushes. I already had the foundation brush, so I added the concealer brush (#10), the angled cream eye shadow brush (#27), and a duo fibre foundation brush (#7) that is very similar to MAC's but way softer. They all come in black sheaths. The cutest brush had to be the kabuki. It's so thick and absolutely adorable in its little black Chanel case. Every one of these was made in China.

 

I have a set of brushes that I really like, so I tried to buy brushes that aren't in my set. But I have to admit that it would be nice (although expensive) to own them all. I'll just keep repeating to myself that I don't need them -- even though the name looks so cute on the brushes and the brushes look so cute in their little sheaths. 

Thanks for the info!   I thought the new US brushes were going to be the same as the Euro brushes...but those are made in France, aren't they?

 

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised they weren't made in France. I was just watching debbick 1'd youtube video on these brushes, which someone kindly posted on another thread. She bought several brushes (most from Harrod's a couple months ago), and the only one made in France was the #24. I just looked at the Chanel foundation brush I got a couple months ago and sure enough it too was made in China.

 

I wonder if the Euro brushes are no longer made in France. Or if only the U.S. is getting brushes made in China. Next time I go to the counter I'll try to find out where they're all made. 

 

I tried the brushes this morning, and I really liked the skunk brush! If you have MAC's you probably don't need it, but I do think this one is softer. I used it to buff down my foundation. I really like the shape of the concealer brush; just perfect for the eye area. The angled cream eye shadow brush worked really well with the D'ombre shadows. The little brush that came with the shadows also works well though, so it's not a necessity. But if you go above the crease, you'll really like it. 

I asked my SA which of the new brushes were made in France. She took a quick look and came up with this list:

 

12 - angled brow brush

13 - ultra fine eyeliner brush

14 - contour shadow brush

19 - large tapered blending brush

25 - large eyeshadow brush

Rectractable lip brush

 

All of the others appear to be made in China.

Interesting peanut. Thanks for asking! I guess they just find it better somehow and/or cheaper to source certain ones from certain places.

 

I notice on Saks they say the brushes are "formed without using scissors or razors to deliver precise makeup results". That's what Hakuhodo cites as the reason their brushes are so soft...the ends are just the natural taper of the animal's hairs.

Honestly, I was thinking...at the price point these brushes are, why not just get the same thing from Hakuhodo? Hakuhodo might be actually slightly higher now that I think on it, but I'm sure the quality would be exponentially better.

 

 

Yep, I am thinking the same QoS, although I'm not sure I need many new brushes from anywhere.

My SA said the Chanel brushes were ok, no better than any other line. I am trying to resist buying them just because they are Chanel. I like the brushes I have from Chanel that are made in France but, they aren't HG for me. I have owned quite a few of Hakuhodo brushes and in my opinion Shu brushes are better. Hakuhodo are super soft and silky but, too much so much for me. They apply product too lightly for my liking. Shu seem to have the perfect balance of soft, firm and just the right shape and size. Shu's Kolinsky brushes are the best, seriously. Better than the Kolinsky's that I had from Hakuhodo.

^^ Thanks. Shu brushes are very expensive. So you think they are worth the investment? What are Kolinsky brushes? I can't get Hakuhodo and Suqqu brushes here, but they are very expensive too.

Kolinsky hair is a very rare and expensive sable. It is super soft but, still firm, it works just as well with powder and cream products and brings out the brightness in colors. For instance, if I apply my MAC painterly paint pot with any other brush it looks like my skin color. When I use my Shu Kolinsky, painterly comes out pinkish. I have also found that I don't get any fall out from powders and everything applies smoother and lasts longer. I have owned a few Hakuhodo Kolinsky's but,  Shu seemed like they had more hair and were just nicer. Hakuhodo no longer has Kolinsky's on their site and they were only offered in their S series brushes. If you do enough research on Hakuhodo, others have mentioned that their brushes are too soft, as well.

 

And one more thing, I am super picky and detailed. So, I really notice everything little difference in products. Others might not care as much. 

Interesting discussion! I just love makeup brushes! I think the Chanel's are quite nice, but I have other brushes that I like better. I've never regretted buying my Suqqu's and look forward to using them every single morning. I think they're squirrel, but I'm not sure. I bought them simply because Lisa Eldridge recommended them. There are some brushes I wish Suqqu made, like a basic concealer brush and a cream eye shadow brush. As for the Chanel's, I like the skunk brush very much (#7), and I think I'll get a lot of use out of the cream eye shadow brush (#27). The concealer brush (#10) is nice, but I actually prefer Le Metier de Beaute's concealer brush because it's wider. So shallow of me, but I still can't resist the Chanel name on those brushes. lol! Look how pretty they are up there!

 

^^ Yeah I watch Lisa Eldridge and the way she raves the Suqqu brushes makes me want to go get some. I may get one or two if I ever have the chance.

jmarie - Thanks for the info! I have shu counters so I can get their products easily. I don't use their products much and when I just got into high end makeup, I looked at their brushes and wondered why the prices were so high. So I have never tried their brushes before. Maybe I can go examine them again. I'm looking for good highlighter, powder and blush brushes.

Does anyone know if the new Chanel brushes are considered LE items or permanent?  I would like to try a couple, but I don't know how soon I need to buy them. 

I can't imagine that they'd be LE, but that's just my opinion. I felt the skunk brush last week and it is fantastic, like everyone else has said!

I bought the #14 contour shadow brush which is made in France like peanut said. After a few weeks of using it, I like it a lot. It doesn't feel scratchy on my lash lines at all, and I like to use it to apply powdered eyeshadow on my lower lash line especially. Darker shades can last all day and the lighter ones or less smooth ones last half a day on their own, without any liner or primer underneath.

i wish the #5 cheek brush was still around

Has anyone seem or tried the new #2 powder angled contour brush for the face, if so what do you think? I saw pics and ordered it site unseen, as Im looking for a new bronzer brush. I didn't see many reviews on this one.
