Tom Ford Beauty Discussion - Page 4

QueenOfSnark, Caramel is two shades lighter than my shade (Praline), BUT these foundations really don't do much in terms of 'in between' shades. I would definitely test both Caramel and Toffee to be absolutely sure of your shade.

Caramel was shockingly light (it looks darker in the tube)... so was Toffee. I had to test them on my skin before making a final decision. Praline turned out to be my match. Had I not tested it, I would have never guessed.

I'm so glad to see a Tom Ford Beauty thread has been started!

OK ladies and gents, I am mad for this line. I have several items and the quality is wonderful and of course getting anything is a luxurious indulgence.

I have the following:

Traceless Stick Foundation in Alabaster - whoever commented on the huge size is absolutely correct - this puppy is huge!  And a lovely product.  The MA I worked with told me Tom actually wears this product every day.

Cheek Color in Love Lust and Frantic Pink

Eye Color Quad in Cocoa Mirage (perfect everyday neutral for me) and Silvered Topaz

Shade & Illuminate in Intensity One - the only item I have not played with yet.

Lipsticks in Pink Adobe, Crimson Noir & Black Orchid (after seeing this on katred I had to get it.  Normally I would never wear a colour like this, but it is so damn sexy!!)

Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Tawny Pink and Lost Cherry - I love the fact that these have a brush instead of a doe foot.  They apply and wear beautifully.

My schedule has been ridiculous the past few months but I will try and swatch everything I have some time soon. :-)

Realized I forgot to include my favourite thing in this line - the BRUSHES!

Those of you who know me know I am a brush fiend, and my collection is massive.  These brushes are incredible.

Once I tried one, I could not stop myself from getting more, I have:

Eye shadow contour brush

Shade & illuminate brush (meant for use with the contour/highlighter)

Cream foundation brush

Eyeliner & definer brush

Eye shadow blend brush - the one that knocked me out and compelled me to pick up more brushes. It's like a larger, firmer (but still soft) MAC 217 - it gives marvelous control and blends out product wonderfully.

The cut and design of these brushes is top notch.  They are of course a splurge, but if you dig brushes, definitely at least look at them if you can.

Thanks for all the great info MzzRach. Needless to say I am nowhere near a counter. Have you looked at the Brow Sculptor by any chance? I'm wondering about the Taupe. I've read there's no red in it, which sounds good to me, but in looking at it on Karla's brows I'm wondering if it's very dark? Is the lightest shade, Blonde, very yellow? I don't think anyone has skin swatches online.

I use Auburn brow products and am pretty happy with what I use, so I'm afraid I have not look at the TF brow product.  If there was an auburn option I would probably try it!

Thanks for the info MzzRach!  I have many of the same products and colors you do - and just yesterday ordered the eye shadow brush you mentioned, and the blush brush.  I want the other eye brushes and the highlight brush as well.  I also ordered Frantic Pink and Wicked blushes.  I too love this line. Have to pace myself sigh.gif.

Yay! So glad you got Black Orchid! We're supposed to be getting the full collection up here this month and I can't wait to swatch it. I'm quite interested in the foundation stick and in the quads, provided they don't jack the prices up too much (the lipsticks haven't been too much more than in the US, so I'm hopeful). Silvered Topaz is one of the ones I was thinking about, actually, because it looks so lovely in photos I've seen.

I have to add my praise for the brushes.  So far I have only purchased the cream foundation brush and the blush brush.  I have literally use these brushes every day since I got them.  They are amazing, especially the liquid foundation brush.  I have been eyeing the eyeshadow brushes and the shade & illuminate brush for a while now.  Eventually I will cave and order them.  I just have to get past the high price point.

I still love almost all of the products that I have purchased from this line.  I am very happy with the liquid foundation now that I have learned how to apply it properly.  The only products that I am "iffy" about are the quads.  The colors are great, but there is something in the glittery shades that can be irritating when wearing contacts.  I have to be very careful with how much and where I apply the high impact colors in the quads.  I was initially going for a slightly toned down version of the promo pics, and my eyes were not happy - to say the least.

That is quite the collection! I'd love to see swatches of the quads and Bitter Bitch nail polish (which I might have to buy just for the name).

So

I did a major investment today and purchased the face powder brush. The largest and most expensive.

I was looking to start a collection of brushes for a while and was doubting between getting the best brushes out there from each kind or getting all from same line.

Since I do like my stuff to be pretty and neat I decided finally to choose only 1 or 2 brush lines so I can arrage them esthetically appealing and matching and they won't be all different as if you got several brands.

Until this decision was made I was using cheapo Elf brushes.

Unfortunatelly the designs i liked are the 2 most expensive brush lines, Tom Ford and the red Hakuhodo.

So today I bit the bullet and got the most expensive Tom Ford brush together with a smaller eyeshadow brush.

What a diffence in moving from Elf to Tom Ford!!!! I feel like that brush is like a piece of jewelry.

Now just got to get a pretty glass holder and sit them in my bathroom.

Not a problem at all! When I have the time I will take some swatches for you (I'm not the best at swatching but will try my best!)

When I first purchased my products & brushes from Tom Ford I winced at the price.  Now I think that they were worth every penny b/c I still use them literally every day.  Most new makeup gets sidelined to my stash (for at least some of the time) once the novelty wears off or the newest collection hits the stores.

Hi has anyone tried the illuminating powder? I don't have a NM anywhere near and have to order from the site. It looks like it would be a great highlighter for my cheeks for my very pale skin without being too shimmery or frosty for my age.

I find NARS Albatross too sparkly and have to buff like crazy and by then it's almost gone from my cheeks.

Today I made my first TF purchase.  I decided to get the Foundation Brush to give it a try.  ***fingers crossed***

If you are talking about the cream illuminator & contour compact, then yes I have that in intensity one.  I also purchased the brush to go with it and use both almost every day.  The contour blends very easily into the skin and gives my round face just enough of an angle here and there to make a difference.  It provides a subtle contour shade without looking too extreme or harsh.  The highlighter is amazing. It adds that certain 'pop" on the face without a shiny or sparkly effect. I just add a brush stroke or two in certain areas and get a nice glow.  [I also have been using the illuminating primer and have been getting great results with that as well.]  When & if I use this product up (the compact is huge so it will last a while) I will be purchasing it again.  I have pretty much stopped using my other highlighters and contouring shades.

I have older skin (over 40) and try to stay away from the disco ball effect that other highlighters give me.  I use MAC MSFs only sparingly b/c of this problem.  I suppose if you lay the TF product on thick that you could have a frosty problem, but I have only had good results with this product.

If you are talking about the translucent illuminating powder, then no I haven't tried that.  The TF makeup artist did not recommend that for me.

I have both of the foundation brushes.  I like the foundation brush, and I absolutely LOVE the cream foundation brush!  Can't say enough good things about that brush.

I got my first TF item from a swap--Coco Ravish--and I LURV it. The texture is matte but not drying, and the color is THE perfect nude lip for me. Not as brown as MAC Touch or as light as Pillow Talk. Perfect. I want to get True Coral as well but I'm unsure how it'll turn out on me.

The cream foundation brush will be next for me.

I thought I'd just pop my swatch in here.. As far as I know TF isn't available in Canada yet.. I picked this up when I was in Vegas at the TF store in Crystals... I'm dying to get the Blush Nude lippie on my next US trip (I'm a massive nude lip junkie haha)

Thanks for the swatches. I'm a huge lip junkie as well and would buy about 8 of the TF shades if my budget permitted.

I'm not sure exactly what the status of TF is in Canada. Holt Renfrew (if you happen to live in a city that has one) carries the lipsticks. One of their associates told me last fall that they were supposed to get the full collection in January. That didn't happen and when I asked the woman at the counter about a month ago, she looked confused and said they only had lipsticks. But I think she thought I was asking if they carried everything now, rather than if they would be getting more in the future.

I adore the lipstick and the brushes I have and I'm really eager to try out the shadow quads (although they haven't necessarily gotten the best reviews). I'm particularly interested in "Burnished Amber" (I think that's the name- it has amber in it, I'm sure), because it looks like such a gorgeous sunset.

I recently purchased some of the TF bronzed Spring Summer Collection, and I am in love with the cream eyeshadows.  They are similiar to the cream shadows from Chanel but not as glittery.  Plus the colors are more "basic" IMO and can be worn everyday.

^^ They look metallic in the swatches but I have not seen them in real. Are they dry like paintpots or moist and blendable like the Illusion d'ombres?
