I had googled about the large duo palettes and stumbled upon this thread. I just got these guys at the Nashville PRO store, and I personally love them- other than my 4 limit. I had to pick & choose when it came to shadow/blush inserts. I will probably hold off on getting additional if the duo ones will roll out in a few weeks. I also opted for the pre-filled 6 shade lip palettes. I have no qualms about depotting lipsticks, but these have good color variance and will be fantastic with freelance as well as save me from pulling product from the tube.
So far my pro/con list on the new palettes:
pro:
-see through
-sturdy
-lid closure is secure, opening not tricky
-inserts are easy enough to put in, and remove (see con note on that)
-insert variety
con:
- I didn't catch anything mentioned through what I've read, and I think it's worth saying- unless I'm doing something incorrectly, which is always possible. The new palettes are not magnetized, not even a strip in the lower compartment as the old palettes had. They just settle in the insert. Someone may have this palette and have a better tip or general directions. For me to remove the insert, I either have pop it out with something sturdy & thin (spatula), or place my hand over the shadows and flip it for one to fall out. Then wedge under the lower holes to pop it up. Not that it's hard to do but it seems easy for product to be damaged that way.
-powders will kick up on the in between, clear part will show finger prints, fuzzballs/ critter hair is attracted to the clear lid.
Twist the palette a bit, kinda like it's an old skool ice tray. The insert will pop right out.

MAC keeps us waiting lately. A lot. Period.
