Chanel Holiday 2012 - Eclats du Soir de Chanel - Page 13

If you guys are neutral, then Notorious should definitely work. On cool tones though, I'm pretty sure you'll look like those Chanel models. It'll come out 'grey purple' on a cool tone. On a neutral or warm tone.. the red in it will force it to appear more 'brown' and more like a shadow.

How can you tell if you're warm, cool or neutral toned?

For a WOC, my favorite test is the 'nude' test. Most nude lip colors pull totally pink on me. I can hold up a nude tube of lipstick, no matter how dark, and it will pull pink. Most taupes pull purple on me. The yellow and orange in my skin highlights the contrast of the cool color.

A WOC with a cool skin tone will have those colors pull more 'brown' on them. There are, however, very few WOC with cool undertones. Most have yellow, orange or red undertones. This goes for African, Indian (and otherwise) Asian descent.

On fair skins... it's easy to tell if a person is warmer or cooler by simply looking at the natural flush in the skin. Most fair skinned women are obviously cool or obviously neutral. In my career (17 years), I can count the number of  100% warm toned fair skinned beauties (not including tanned ones).

CartoonChic, based on your avatar, it looks like you have a neutral to warm tone. If you were 100% warm, you wouldn't be able to pull off that fantastic lipstick color you're wearing!

Another great test is through foundations. Neutral foundations that are simply beige or brown (with no yellow added to the mix) will pull ashy or pinkish on a warm skin tone.

Thank you very much for this explanation. What happens if you're neutral? I need to do this test, but I have very few nude lipsticks. What's a good shade to test with? I have MAC Innocence, Beware!, Cusp of Dawn and Pure Zen classified as nudes in my stash.

Oh, Ok thanks! I didn't see this response when I made my last post. I was wondering if I may be neutral because it seems like the nude colors I have don't pull one way or the other. Yay!

Oh if you're neutral, you can get away with colors on the cool AND the warm side. Neutral is the ideal undertone. You can test with any of your 'nude' shades. Nude is what's nude on YOU. Like... my nude is totally different from, say, Elegant's nude. On her, my nude lip colors would look very brown.

I didn't see your last post. Glad I could help!

Got home late tonight but tried out the Notorious blush. Actually, I really really like it.  I was already wearing the Marilyn BP & Legendary blush so I swept the faintest amount in my hollows, blending blending & wow I couldn't believe how sculpted my face looked. And, when I looked in the mirror...no vampire looked back lol.gif It really looks great on the eyelids.

Notorious is sold out on the website. Now I'm wondering if I should've just ordered it and then returned it later if I didn't like it. But I think I can still pre-order it if I like how it looks on shontay.

I don't get that warm/neutral thing either. I just try whatever colors catch my eye and then I decide if I like it or not. I've had MUA's tell me I'm warm, but more have told me I'm neutral. I give up.

Yes, Elegant I love Notorious, too. Sometimes I feel my face is a little fat (probably all in my mind), but this gave me cheekbones. It didn't look ashy or dirty and it blends very well. It goes on light and you can build it up however much you want. I really love it on the eyes, too. It's a really soft, beautiful taupe on my eyes. I'm in love with this thing and it's so much better to me than the traditional shades of sculpting powder. I don't think this would be a problem for women of color at all.

I didn't take side pictures, but I did take some pics and I think you can still see the effect. So, here goes:

Still can't really capture how pretty it is on the eyes. It's like a satin finish and natural despite the color.

Yikes. As I was making my post I was wondering if it had sold out already. I like to just go ahead and order and figure it out later, but there's nothing wrong with holding out. Returns are annoying.

Lol, yeah. It was still there yesterday when I checked. I'm not sure if it sold out some time later yesterday or today. I think I may track it down now that I see your pics. Thanks for posting them.

You're welcome.

I can't wait to keep playing with it. It's so nice. I haven't used sculpting powder in a long time, so I need to keep playing around to 'perfect' it. I really love it already, though.

I asked the saleslady at Macy's when would they be getting the holiday collection and she said November. shockt.gif That's not going to work. I need it sooner. Hopefully, Nordstroms or Chanel.com will get it earlier than that. Macy's and Saks are always my last resort anyway.

I was in Macy's because I went to Bloomingdales and spotted the new Dior collection. The shade of lipstick I wanted was sold out and the closest dpt store is Macy's. I really love the lipstick (it's called Lady) and I need to go back for one called Marilyn. I think they did a better job at a Marilyn themed collection than Mac (even though that's not how Dior is selling it, that's the vibe it gives me).

Notorious looks amazing on you Shontay! eyelove.gif I'm getting tired of waiting for the holiday collection too.

CartoonChic, you can probably still get it thru BTiB's Saks, or any Saks near you really as hers is just pulling from other stores via their company-wide computer system:

So fascinating to hear about a colour that works on WOC and pale chicks like Elegant and myself. Shontay- your face is NOT fat, but I can still see how that shade shapes your face. Eek. I need this...

Shontay eyelove.gif You look fabulous! It really works great on you. Isn't it the weirdest color magic powder noworry.gif I really really love it on the eyes. This has to be the strangest color I own.

Its sold out already!? Whoa

Thanks, ladies. bouquet.gif I think this magic powder is in the top 5 products that I own. shockt.gif There's nothing like being on a Chanel high.

(Elegant, I'm going to call it magic powder from now on girlhaha.gif)

Don't ya just love how Chanel just sent out the e-mail for this Contrastes collection now that magic powder is sold out?  They must be taking lessons from MAC. ohboy.gif

Yes! I just got the e-mail, too. I was shaking my head.

Shontay I can not believe you said your face looks fat. NO such thing at all.  Thanks so much for posting pics. I really like the idea of this better tan say trying to work with different browns. I've never tried contouring before so I'm thinking I should try the magic powder ball. Any brush recommendations or does the brush that comes with it work okay?

You're welcome, MissTT. Funny you should ask about the brush. I have a few Chanel blushes and I always toss or misplace the brush, but this time I decided to play with it. It's actually not bad at all! It picks up the color and it blends it out just fine. However, it's small and I don't love the shape to contour. I used a real techniques setting brush. I love all of those RT brushes so much. They're amazing. I think you can use different kinds of brushes, though. Perhaps an angled contour brush, which I do own, works just fine.

I've been meaning to make it to Ulta to try the RT brushes, but it's in another town and I just haven't gotten there. I have an angled blush brush I don't use anymore so maybe I'll try that, but I think I need to invest in more brushes.

Btw, quit hiding those pretty eyes behind specs. cutey.gif

lol.gif but I need them to see from a distance! Plus, I don't like my eyes, so it's a great distraction. tong.gif
post #384 of 1277

I'm STILL not getting the Chanel emails :( & nobody can tell me why.

Is it going to your junk folder? Maybe you need to add them to your contacts to make sure you get it.

I REALLY want Notorious... Do we know if Nordie's or Macy's will be carrying this in-store?

Yep, tried that :(  Not sure what else to do.

Sorry, elegant. ssad.gif

Lovely!

Actually Shontay, you're warm on the top and sort of cool on the bottom (around the mouth and jawline). I noticed that the first time I saw you in MUFE #173. It does something different on the bottom of your face. It's fine through your forehead and t-zone. You're best suited to warmer skin toned foundations (not neutral ones) because they work well with both tones of your skin.

Most people have at least two 'colors' in their face. Most WOC have an average of FOUR. The goal is to find shades/colors that translate well for the entire face, so that everything looks uniform.

It SOLD OUT already? Sheesh. I think mine is still on the truck for delivery today.

I KNEW it would work on warmer skin tones! It's the red undertone in that dusty charcoaly mauve color... translates it into a 'shadow' on warm skins. I can't WAIT to try it!
