NARS + Guy Bourdin

From WWD:

François Nars has chosen a longtime muse as the subject of the second of his strategic collaborations: Guy Bourdin. Nars, in addition to having created his namesake cosmetics line (now owned by Shiseido Americas Corporation), is also an avid photographer. The limited-edition color cosmetics collection will “evoke the Parisian fashion photographer’s ambitious, provocative work,” according to the company. The offering, which will hit counters in November, is being produced under a license with Art + Commerce on behalf of Bourdin’s estate.

I just saw this article too. It's a holiday collection, right?

It's scheduled for November, so yes, this seems to be the holiday collection. ;) A few months back, an article mentioned that the holiday 2013 would be inspired by a dead artist, so it fits too.

I'm gonna skip the entire new items which come out after the fall collection to save money for this.

(Honestly, I don't like cream compact foundations regardless of brands. And eye paints, meh...cuz I barely use cream eyeshadow or sth.)

Just in case that it would be a wonderful collection.:P

I looked up who Guy Bourdin is. I'm sold. His work looks gorgeous and I'm sure NARS would go a good job translating it into a collection.

Me too! NARS already made some creations inspired by Guy Bourdin, like Exhibit A blush, Space Odyssey nail polish, Via Crispi LTL Eyeliner, 413 BLKR VMLP, and 413 BLKR e/s duo.

I didn't know that. That's so neat! Thinking about it now, I can see how those items might be inspired by his work. This should be a really awesome holiday collection then.

Exhibit A is the name of a book of his photographs. Space Odyssey and Via Crispi were inspired by this picture: http://karlasugar.net/2011/09/nars-fashions-night-out-exclusives/

As for the 413 BLKR items, the NARS website says this: "NARS debuts two new additions to the 413 BLKR collection in the powerfully provocative spirit of Guy Bourdin."

I agree with you, this is exciting. I like what the artist has inspired to François Nars, so I'm really looking forward to this collection. Maybe that will finally be the opportunity to get my hands on Exhibit A if they integrate it in a gift set or a palette. ;)

Ah-maz-ing! Thank you for the link. I love products that have a story. That makes it so much more exciting. I was scared of Exhibit A for the longest time, but I finally ordered it in the fall when we has associate appreciation. It's not my most used blush, but it certainly is a gorgeous one and not a hard to pull off as I thought with my trusty Yachiyo.

You're welcome. :)

I agree. That's one of the reasons I love NARS so much: the products' names tell a story, fire the imagination, make you travel, etc... It gives such a strong identity to the brand and to the products.

Glad you like Exhibit A and the Yachiyo brush. :)

Thanks for the link. A bit OT but what happened to Karla Sugar? Did she just abandon her blog? I used to love that one.

She's blogging and/or doing something else for Neiman Marcus and either she's not allowed to continue her blog because it's a conflict of interest or she doesn't have time anymore. That's the speculation I've read on MUA anyway.

That makes a lot of sense, Winthrop44. I loved her swatches, and she seemed really sweet, so it's too bad she stopped. But good for her for her job at Neiman Marcus. :)

Well it looks like this was incorrect as this is what Karla just sent out via e-mail (for anyone who doesn't subscribe to her blog):

"I’m sorry I’ve been away, and been away without an explanation.

This wasn’t a planned hiatus (which is why I didn’t write a post announcing the interruption in blogging). It was a convergence of several life events — most importantly, the terminal illness of my grandfather.

I wasn’t expecting to take time off, it just… happened. I apologize for not writing during that time. I held off because I couldn’t say with certainty when I’d be back. Life is not at all like the movies, and though the outcome is certain, the timing is anything but. My sincere thanks for the kind emails, tweets, and Facebook messages during my absence.

Though I plan to continue swatching, I have also taken on other work commitments, so (regretfully) I won’t be able to continue posting five days a week. I’m not sure what the new schedule will be, but I’ll let you know."

Thanks for the information. It's so sad that she went through this family crisis. :(

Linda Evangelista interviewed François Nars for Interview Magazine. It's all online, along with a nice picture gallery. It really is a good read.

Here it is: http://www.interviewmagazine.com/fashion/francois-nars-1

They spoke a bit about the Guy Bourdin collection, and François Nars said:

It's really crazy. Bourdin was one of the photographers who really influenced me to become a makeup artist, and I felt that he deserved to be given credit for that. We have purples and coppers . . . I mean, I knew the photographs so well that it was kind of easy to put the whole thing together. His son, Samuel, gave us access to all of the archives, so I was able to use the images as part of it.

I think I heard Katred's wallet scream.tong.gif

Also, his mom exudes class.

After I've been through the Pierre Hardy collection, I'm already afraid of this collection.

What if it will be as gorgeous as Pierre Hardy unlike Andy Warhol? I hope it won't be too gorgeous b/c I'm sure my wallet will cry. crybaby.gif
