Fun idea: Makeup from different places?

OK this is a strange topic *but then I'm always up for strange topics*

So I was thinking, if anyone knows this-but like what makeup looks or makeup tricks or popular trends are in your area?

I would love to hear from our friends in the UK and Asia (but I'm on this Asian kick - give me a few weeks I'll be in a Greecian kick hehe!)

Anyway whats popular here? Well I'm in the South and I've seen a lot of white eyeliner and pink eyeshadow with brown eyeliner with black mascara (thats just a pet peeve of mine in general).

What about you?

peteeves or in general?!

I was in Northwest Kansas last year and makeup was minimal - I mean I wore a lot and everyone else was somewhat nude in their looks BLAH...

I was out on the Indian Rez in the four corners the year abefore and it was heavy black eyeliner and dark lipstick (I think this is a native american thing, my lil' sis takes after the choctaw side and wears this look)...

In Oklahoma...I see brighter colors.. not a lot of blending but at least people here will wear more than brown. :-)

This is a great discussion topic.

cyens- in general or pet peeves. i really dont care i just want to know about what others wear in their makeup

Nobody here wears make-up. I feel out of place sometimes. I mostly only see girls wearing lipstick...and that's about it.
The trend is usually full of neutrals, and if theres something bright on the eyes, its just eyeliner. No ones particularly creative with their makeup. I only see really out there or really nice makeup when I go to beauty counters or Sephora or MAC, but not at the mall or everyday situations. But, there is always lots of gloss!
I was in LA a while back, and in the hip spots (downtown LA, hollywood, beverly hills) the trend I saw was the smokey eye, super nude or light lip, lots of bronzer and loads of mascara.
PS its not all around LA, just the "hip" spots. Around the other areas its a good mix of vibrant, neutral, or no makeup looks.

in general the look here is minimal or natural simple with eyeliner. At my highschool it's normally black eyeliner, lip balm, and mascara and the special event bright shadow. The punks, emo whatever the hell you wanna call them usually wear more eyeliner and real bright eyeshadow frequently but thats like a qtr of my school haha.

but oh my gosh in all seriousness there is one girl at my school that wear red blush that completely starts at the top of their cheeks till the inner of her jaw. No offense but honey that is not going to make your double chin look smaller! She'd look so much better without it.

I was in BKK, Thailand. The trend was (still is) shimmerring neutral-colored eyes.. dolly (long+thick+curled) lashes..flawless and fair complexion.. pink glowy cheeks.. and soft pink lips.

Now I'm in Singapore. People in my school dun wear much makeups.. just mascara, foundation and blush.. as far as I can see.
here it's too much foundation and shimmery all over the place eyeshadow, tonnes of liner. but that's just at my school. normally it's just lots of neutrals

Adults here tend to wear neutrals, little, or nothing. I also wear mostly neutrals or shades of pink/brown. The pic in my profile is pretty indicative of what I wear daily. Some variation on that. Currently am wearing(all MAC) strut brow pencil, powersurge eye kohl(a bronze), brown mascara X, amber lights e/s, soba e/s, ricepaper e/s, jubilee l/s, and uberpeach chromeglass.

VERY few people here try bright colours. I see it on teenagers sometimes, though. Mostly on the teenagers I see around town, they're wearing (too much) black eyeliner, by itself. possibly with a clear gloss.

I was a makeup artist here for 13 years until last year. Even those that came in my store rarely wore much colour. Those that did usually went with purples and plums.

i live in the cleveland area, and everyone here is all about smokey eyes with just eyeliner and mascara...
@ school (sfsu), a lot of girls wear neutrals, a lot of like pinks/beiges/browns, or WAY too much liner and mascara, which i don't think a lot of people need, or should even WANT...i live in the dorms though, and a lot of people are from soCal, may explain the excessiveness, no offense anyone.
or, the alternate route, which i think is horrible...lots of make up, tons of diff. shades and not a lot of blending cleanly from one color to another. which is funny, because i'm actually from the bay area and everyone @ home seems to be happy just enchancing their beauty, minimal foundation, full lashes, maybe some shimmer on the lids. but blending is key there...MAC was popular @ my high school, haha.

In Liverpool, LOTS of orange foundation and mascara.

In Valencia (Spain) mostly eyeliner pencil and gloss.

i go to an erm... alternative high school(well, its a performing arts magnet school). so the people here wear a lot of makeup. for the preps(dancers) its all about the smokey eye and pink lipgloss, for the punks/goths/emos(drama people and band geeks) its all about extremely bright colors up to the brow and minimal blending. haha. i sound so stereotypical, but its true. and then the rest of the population just wears black eyeliner, and lots of it.

Here in Germany girls tend to wear white e/s up to the brow with a harsh black eyeliner....it's just so ewww!

Or minimal makeup!!

TX is so humid, but the look is decidedly tropical. For the oil wives, traditional Dynasty looks. For the rest of us, shimmer and humid colors. Lots of sheer washes and glossy lips.
And then in August it doesn't matter WHAT you wear, you are going to look like a drowned rat in 10 minutes.

My first Specktra post! I'm in Japan in the Kansai area and here, girls tend to wear lots of foundation and concealer, usually in a fairly pale shade, spiky eyelashes, pastel shimmery shadows in shades such as lavendar, pink, mint green, yellow or brown on their eyes and sometimes, black eyeliner. Cheeks are kept fairly neutral- dusty pinks and peaches are popular. Oh and glossy lips in a beige or light pink shade.

Welcome to Specktra! In Columbus, or at least at OSU, minimal daytime makeup, and then terribly excessive and bad nighttime makeup. Lots of bright non-blended colors (that match the outfits), very over-done eyeliner, and lots of lipgloss.
Upstate NY, where I'm originally from favors neutrals and classic makeup, generally not overdone. Lots of fake tans though... (with foundation that doesnt match LOL)

Here in the Austin area high schools, it's usually a lot of eyeshadow, vibrant or neutral. Or it's just mascara and lip balm.

well here is depends on ethnicity and age

tweens, i loathe tweens, the are always in mac discussing what lipglass to buy like buy them all mom and dad are footing the bill geesh stop wasting a ma's time

but indian girls and asian girls wear black e/l lots of them only wear this and i am indian so like stray ladies stray there is more than black eyeliner

white girls wear pinks and and not much

black girls wear lipgloss

but this is just a generalization not full truth cause i gunk it on and so do most of my friends asian, black, white, native etc

but drawing on eyebrows is crazy here for the moment
and last year it was heavy clear gloss on the lips

I live in Central California and while it is still Cali it's full of nude faces. At least for the older woman. The younger girls all seem to be into the overly smoky eye and pale lips.
When I go into the Bay Area and San Fran I see more colors. Plenty of people wearing purples. Of course in San Fran I see all kinds of different makeup!

Overall the main look I see is just e/l, mascara, and pale lips.

As for foundation, I have to say I see more people using the right color now than a few years ago.
Here in Swansea there is a lot of too orange foundation , bronzer and generally very matte looks. Often coupled with clumpy mascara, that said although you do see some nice looks too.

I have to concur with Xiahe,.. here in Indy lots of seriously BADLY done smokey eye looks (Y you will rarely see me wearing one,. I am sick of seeing it- I really do wear the colors you see in my FOTD's) and "old lady" lip colors to go with it,.. aggghh,. its not that there is any one color,.. it seems as though each person manages to find the most "old lady-ish" color for their skin tone? And I am about to start the "Foundation Police" Squad,..I actually felt bad but could not stop myself from stopping and letting a lady at a Department Store Makeup Counter (Not going to say which but not MAC) and telling her that her foundation was completely wrong. I was very polite (Excuse me you have the loveliest skin but that color is just not right for you,....) and she seemed glad I told her,... but it is just sad,.....

I'm still in highschool, and most girls wear black eyeliner that they reapply between every other period in the bathroom or at their lockers, and the same with their black mascara. and fruity flavored lipglosses. faces stay neutral, although many girls around here go tanning weekly so who know's what their true skin color is.
here in missouri, i see too many THICK black eyeliner, unevenly drawn on; foundation three shades too dark, bronzer everywhere....and let's not even get into the elderly ladies with their blue up to the brows and uneven hot pink lipstick..
Usually if you look at alot of the arab women here they go all out with their makeup, and they all do it so well. They look like they are all MAC artists, lol.
Me and my friends are always amazed at some of the arabic teachers in my school who have such amazing makeup and outfits EVERYDAY,lol.

hahahs both things are so true!!! in spain NOBODY wears makeup, and if they do it's barely noticeable, sometimes i feel so stupid wearing green eyeshadow LOL but i feel pretty so it's all good! many people compliment my makeup but then they would never wear it...

in UK is true many girls wear tonnes of foundation (badly matched) and lots of mascara which looks good cos there are many blue eyed gals and dark lashes make blue stand out
post #28 of 35
Sydney Australia - very minimal makeup - usually girls just wear clear lipgloss, wash of bronzer, lots of mascara and eyeliner - along with shimmery brown/gold/black eyeshadows.....

We had some Swedish backpackers come and work at my work for a while and they tended to wear pinkish lipgloss with pastel eyeshadows and mascara - they were all so naturally beautiful though, it wouldnt have mattered what they wore.
