Working for Sephora - Page 13

YES! Call them! Bother them constantly! That is how I got the job!

hey everyone! i'm new here and just had to put a response in this thread.

i recently moved to a new place out of state and have no friends or family so i decided to look for a retail job because the degree i went to school for is hard to find jobs up here. i recently put in an application to sephora couple days ago for seasonal cashier. i sent my application on monday, received a call for a group interview on tues, than a second interview on wed, and today i'm anxiously waiting to see what's going to happened. my co-worker texted me that they called one of my reference (my supervisor) this morning and they called my co-worker wed right after i got back from my second interview. is this a good sign?

i'm just so eager because i'm tired of sitting at home staring at the white walls and do nothing. my bf works everyday and i wanted to help bring some kind of income. i LOVE cosmetics and feel like a little girl in a candy store when i go to sephora. i've always wanted to work for the company for a long time so i think this would be a great opportunity to take my hobby into some kind of career while my actual desired career on hold. any advice will help!

just got a call earlier today that they're offered me the seasonal cashier position! i'm really excited and happy. the orientation is this weekend so can anybody tell me what should I be expecting? i know i'm going to have just the cashier training next week but nothing like i've heard from other sephora employees where they go to SOS and stuff like that.

This is so true! Show them your passion for the store and its clients and they will take notice of how valuable you are as an employee. Even if it's a job that sucks to do (cleaning, emptying trash, dealing with rude clients), it's a job that must be done and your SD will appreciate that you took the initiative to get the job done.

Youre orientation will largely depend on what your SD feels it is important to train you on. First and formost, you will be trained on the ins and outs of cash and the POS system. You will learn all Sephora cash procedure; returns, testers, damages, etc. Then I imagine they will speak to you about Sephora's brand essence and our WE CARE+ (the steps of serving a client). I imagine they will also show you a bit of recovery, which is cleaning of the gondolas, and how to restock properly. And of course they will tell you all about the guidlines of appearance, conduct and LP.

If your SD keeps you on after holiday, they will then consider sending you to SOS.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, the orientation was about 4 hours long with lots of information. I'm surprised they really take their time to train the seasonal employees. When I used to work at Charlotte Russe for 2 years, my manager had to train and give them all the information herself. The orientation was with some other managers or should I say store directors and specialists. There were other people from other store so it was nice meeting new people since I moved to another state with no friends and family so I think this is a great way to make friends. =) I will definitely work my butt off as I do with everything. I wouldn't mind working for Sephora fully on staff after the holidays. Do you know when is the cut off time for seasonal employees?

Usually the store is allowed to keep seasonal employees until the beginning of February.

My date was January 6th or so. I spoke to my manager about 3 weeks into the job, and in a very nervouse voice said "I know your don't know how many people you can keep, but i really like working here, and i would love to stay on after the holidays, and i'll do whatever it takes" I remember she just smiled and said keep up the good work.
2 weeks later, right before christmas i was called into the office and told they were keeping me, and my first official day as permenant cast would be about January 10th. I signed my paper work there and then.

That's awesome! I will definitely do that! Thanks =)

I applied at a Sephora near me yesterday and I have a job interview tomorrow! It's a group interview so there will be at least one other person there. I'm excited but nervous because I've never had a retail job, so I'm not sure what kinds of questions they'll ask. 001_unsure.gif

It will be a group interview and they will ask general questions like why do you want to work for Sephora? What are your hobbies and dislikes? Right now theyre hiring for seasonal and if you do well they will keep you on.

I just saw this now, and already had my interview. I just got a call and they offered me a position! yahoo.gif I'm definitely going to try my best and hope they offer me a permanent position :)

Funny thing though; the other girl showed up super late and by that time, I had already finished my interview, so I knew I had a good chance :)

Congrats, I had orientation on Sunday and it was cool. I love all of the different brands that they offer. Hopefully, I will get hired on full time.nanaparty.gif

Do you get health insurance by working at Sephora? If so, how long before you eligible? Can you get insurance for your family?

Anyone know how long do you have to work for sephora before you can do a internal transfer to another store in another state ?..just curious

^ I don't know about Sephora specifically, but I know with retail in general it greatly depends on the availability of positions in the store you want to transfer to as well as getting the okay from your Store Director/General Manager.  Basically, if you have poor performance, are late, etc. they probably won't let you transfer because as an employee you reflect on your managers as a good or bad hiring choice.  I was told by management at my local store that it takes about a year to get comfortable with the store and products, so if you are performing well I would guess they'd want to make sure you are fully trained/competent before sending you away to another store.  I know this doesn't explain Sephora's specific policies, but it has been like this for me in retail in the past.  I hope that helps somewhat!

I have a meeting with a manager next week and I don't know if I should tell her I blog. Some companies *cough MAC* looks down on that. If I want to stay and grow in the company what position should I go for? I know someone in here said don't go for an artist position if you want to be management someday. What's the average starting wage?

There will be a sephora opening in my town ( so pumped) and they are accepting, applications, opening will be in May and I worry about my .... "edgier" look  i.e. I possess a side cut (which can be covered) and I have gauges. I am more then willing to part with my facial piercings. hair grows back, My gauges are my blood sweat and tears though! I have been told I can have them as long as you wear solids. I have sent my resume and received an email back . so now I am in a tizzy since i know this is a trendy environment and the "modern" casual interview outfit would probably be preferred  to show some sens of style  (leave the furs and leopard prints at bay , yes I know this!) but spring is in the air and I was thinking a nice billowy blouse with a cami and some tight black slacks and some nuetral flats.  Pleas any tips, tricks, would be more then appreciated since I made a username for this exact! subject =)

Your idea of an interview outfit sounds great to me!

How long did it take for you guys to hear back after your second interview?

I had a group interview a week ago and they called me right away to ask me for a second interview with the store director yesterday, I went in and feel pretty confident :) he said to make sure I told my references they were going to call, but so far nothing..

Hi everyone! The advice on this thread so far has been AWESOME!!!! I just filled out an application to work at Sephora  a couple of days ago! I was shopping in the mall and saw their "Now hiring" Sign. I was thinking about taking on another PT job since I only work 30-35 hours a week at my FT job. It turns out the skin care lead is actually being promoted and is looking to fill her own position! We had a great conversation, and she loved my resume since I have retail management experience, and experience working in skincare/cosmetics at Clarins. She said the store manager is out of town until next week, but she gave me her card, and the manager's card and asked me to follow up if I hadn't heard anything in a week or so. She did say they've been super busy helping out with the new store, so If I didn't hear back in a week it's only because they're helping out with the new store opening.

It sounds really promising, and working at Sephora would be a dream job!!! Just wondering if anyone knows what exactly are the duties of a skin care lead? Is it a salaried position or hourly? Do they give "mini facials" like at clarins? Most of the thread has info on working in the color department, but if anyone could describe what the duties are in the skin care department, that would be great! Thanks!!!

Hey girls,

Been a while since I posted!

Anyway, the good news is that they are FINALLY opening a Sephora downtown Montreal, and there will be a Make Up For Ever boutique in there.

I'll be working in that boutique, as I was an employee for MUFE before (got closed down in 2011 at The Bay).

Technically I won't be a Sephora employee as my pay will be delivered by MUFE.

I was wondering if anyone heard anything about blogging while working for Sephora, as a coworker told me her friend had to shut down her blog, or lose her job.

Did you guy hear anything about this?

I love blogging and right now in Quebec we don't have a lot of french blogs... and mine is getting quite popular.

I don't wan't to stop, but don't want to lose my job either...

Hi! I applied at a Sephora inside JC Penny. I know its not the same store as the ones in the mall but I really like the location its at and right now I'm working at a TGF Haircutter as a stylist for 2 years. I've been interested in trying something new and different. I also need a better paying job. I'm working way too hard for what they pay. I'd work at a different salon but I don't have time to build up clientel again and I know my clients aren't gonna follow. I wanna stay in the beauty industry and I know having a license looks good. I'm not trying to make this long and boring so I will get on with it. Lol.

I knew they were hiring so I walked in and talked to a girl and left my resume.

I wait a few days and called the manager was busy. A couple days before Mother's Day I called again and finally got a hold of a manager and she told me that she has my resume pulled aside and that she cant do any interviews until shes gets the go ahead from JC Penny and she said that she would call me after Mothers Day weekend since things were really busy for them that weekend. And she thanked me for calling me.

Its been about a week and I still haven't heard anything. I don't know how long it takes for them to have permission do interviews or anything. I don't wanna bother them but I know I should be persistant at the same time.

My questions are: Should I call them Monday(tomorrow)? And what does a product consultant start off making? Rates are different for everyone I've heard. I just kinda want an idea. You can message me if you want or reply on here.

Thank you for your help. Please please please respond!

(i wasnt sure where to post this post, so it might be sent somewhere to) lol. =]
