harmful carcinogens in makeup?

I found this section in yahoo news, and was wondering if this is a big concern regarding MAC products? Are there harmful formaldehyde in mascara? what about eyeshadow talc?

Go for a Natural Healthy Glow
Every morning, many women put on their face as a daily ritual to enhance their looks. Ironically, achieving that healthy glow with cosmetics is actually diminishing your well-being.
The cosmetics industry is one of the biggest users of harmful chemicals, and there are few regulating laws. Your lash-enhancing mascara may have formaldehyde as an ingredient, and you may find plastic resins in your lipstick.
Eye shadow and blush may use asbestos-contaminated talc, and foundation makeup often includes chemical solvents. These are all suspected carcinogens. Why take risks? Bag the dangerous makeup and opt instead for natural alternatives found in health food stores that use colored clays, vegetable oils, and other natural ingredients.

Re: harmful carcinogens in makeup?

hmmm... what do they mean by "natural ingredients"? i mean, talc is natural. even HIV virus is "natural". since when "natural" becomes a synonym for healthy?

btw, talc is the most important ingredient in most powder eyeshadows and powders (even baby powders). it exists in some "healthy" mineral foundations too because it IS a mineral, and you know those white powders weight lifting/gymnastic athletes put on their hands. yah, that's talc too

do not read too much into these things. there are so many theories about the risks of pretty much everything we do in life. if we believe in all of them and follow evey single rule, we would all kill ourselves.

Re: harmful carcinogens in makeup?

It's funny how most of these articles are written by straight men who will never understand the joys of makeup. And I agree with the previous post, don't read too much into it.

Re: harmful carcinogens in makeup?

Im more concerned about the air Im breathing causing cancer and that big ass hole in the ozone layer thats right over where I live.

As far as carcinogens go my cosmetics are very low on the list of concerns.

Re: harmful carcinogens in makeup?

I'm not worried at all. Between the air you breathe, the food you eat, the weight you carry etc, there is just too much to worry about. Now on top of that I'm supposed to worry about my makeup (a huge joy in my life)...yeah, I think not

This is the government/EPA's makeup rating system database. Many popular cosmetics are here. You deserve to know what is tetragenic (causes birth defects) or carcinogenic.
